Zvezda have announced that they will be making Prussian Grenadiers in 1/72 soft plastic. Given their usual history, this should be the start of a reasonably complete range.

Good news for me. looking forward to seeing the figures

I see that Zvezda is also going to release GNW artillery for the Russians and the Swedes – that will be great.

Griefbringer29 Jan 2009 8:54 a.m. PST

Interestingly, there is also a mention of Zvezda WWII models in 1:72 – so far they have only produced that period in 1:35.

Thanks for heads up, Marc.

I would rather have seen GNW Russian Cavalry first, but anything new for the era is good news.

I wonder if and when they will break into 28mm historical hard plastics now that Hat has taken the plunge.

KTravlos29 Jan 2009 11:30 a.m. PST

Zvezda is really one of the best companies out there. IMHO one of the best things to come out of the Fall of the Soviet Union:)(joking of course, other good things came out as well). I am building my 17th century Ottoman Army using their kits and I am very, very happy.

They have already released a range of 28mm fantasy hard plastics.

D A F – the GNW range is very good – my project this year with my Bro is an imagi-nation game using the Zvezda GNW troops. Current plans are for the "Swedes" to be in white, and the "Russians" in red. We choose to avoid the traditional German states' blue for the time being, but will see how things go. The plan is far less than you achieve (more power to you – your blog is truly inspiring), so looking at 4 infantry units a side of 28 a piece, 2 cavalry units of 15 each a side, and 2 guns each. This is roughly in line with Don Featherstone's ACW forces in his introductory book. It will use "The Wargame" rules though. And when we are ready, each unit will get another 24 line, or 12 cavalry (and one extra officer) to bring up to Charles Grant sized units. I went for the Zvezda in preference to the Revell 7YW (as chosen by Stokes) as I feel they are better detailed figures.

So the Zvezda 7YW may well be ready when we are for some more units, so dark blue may then appear.

Marc: you have the right idea – start with a couple of units and then build them up over time. That's how Bill and I got our armies started. I'm kind of interested in doing GNW with plastics, but on a smaller scale.

Olaf 0329 Jan 2009 8:44 p.m. PST

I am glad to see that I am not the only one interested in doing the GNW with plastics from Zvezda. I would be more interested in the SYW figures if I had not already started that in 28mm. I have always been interested in GNW and with the quality and price of the Zvezda figures it is hard to pass up.

@ Marc at home: always passionately interested when reading of a new 'tricorned' Imagi-Nation: please tell us more!

Superb news although I have already a considerable number of the Revell grenadiers.

Marc the plastics fan30 Jan 2009 7:59 a.m. PST

The GNW range is just sooo nice, and completely compatible with War of Spanish Succession of course.

My ideas for imagi-nation are barely formed yet, but they are based around the idea of some "behind the times" states (imagine Saxony, Hesse kassel etc in Napoleonic times), so that their uniforms etc are a bit behind the main powers in their 7YW uniforms. I have loads of the Revell figures, so if it grows, i will be able to field the Zvezda against the Revell without it looking too odd (in the imagi-nation sense that is. It will look real odd historically.)

I did not want to delay painting whilst I played with names, histories etc, which I will do as I go along. It helps that this is a joint project with my brother, as we will be able to have separate histories to fight over!

abdul666lw30 Jan 2009 10:02 a.m. PST

Hi Marc: a perfectly sensible decision. Some start with a lot of paperwork about their country, other by playing battles and writing History 'backwards'. Both work fine, what matter is to enjoy what you are doing and thus to sustain your enthusiasm!

Hope you'll blog soon!
Cheers,
Jean-Louis

I am currently writing up a history of my Imagination, the Principality of Morea, based on the historic polity, but with a slighty alternated history that leads it to the 18th century with a mix western/eastern army. Once it is ready I will upload it on my blog phdleadhead.blogspot.com , to be followed by a full overview of the Principiate army in the "western era" 1623-1760. I am really excited as the history ALREADY runs 8 pages, and I have just ended the WSS:)

@KTravlos: 'young' but already pleasant blog – looking forward to enjoy many Morea-labelled posts!

@abdul666lw. Thanks. I am done with the state history. Need to proofread, put some pics and post it. Will do after doin school oriented work.

Musketier01 Feb 2009 4:06 a.m. PST

Yes Zvezda are great, especially their GNW range – and I see they really intend to complete the range, with a separate set of Swedish guns!

@ Marc and all those out there who use it for SYW: If you have surplus pikemen or grenadiers, please get in touch, perhaps we could swap.

Marc at home01 Feb 2009 4:51 a.m. PST

Musketier – I will send you an email about the pikemen. Unfortunately, I intend to use the grenadiers once I have 8 boxes (stared with 4 to get on with, will have 8 by summer as the project roles on). No swap needed, you can just have them.
