I have some interest in joining the emporer versus elector site with my new imagi-nation. I saw some info at

link

Could someone explain the site concept to me. I think it is for fictional writing about your imagi-nation. Or is it like email diplomacy were we actually play a game through our corresondence. On a side note the first IR for CAVENDERIA has been commissioned and is on display at my blog. Thanks in advance.

The quote comes from Peter Young book "Charge!" One of the first books put out on wargaming back in 1968. He illustrated his book with a number of battles between the forces of the Emperor and ane the Elector.

Charles Grant – a fiend of Young carried on the tradition in his book the "The Wargame" from 1971 where we have the forces of the Grand Duchy of Lorraine and the Vereingte Frie Stadte.

A number of Old School Wargamers carry on this tradition – most notably "The Societ of Daisy" a group of 'netizens who are inspired by this work.

Not all of us who play the mid 18thC period feel the need to do this but the period does seem to be particularly suitable to this form of gaming. Particalarly when compared to an early or later period.

Speaking of Charge!, it is in fact the source of my wargaming nickname -- the unfortunate Lentulus is used by Young to illustrate good sportsmanship. And I was ammused to find this blog entry: link

Sometimes JCSUPERSTAR,
the various states interact with each other when they desire. At other times they simply announce their own storylines. It is not intense.
Bon Chance,
Gallia,

Both fiction and game-play are mediated by Emperor vs. Elector. Mostly its people writing fluff for their units and the fictional "imaginations" they represent, but the interaction of storylines permitted by the collaborative format has resulted in proxy battles being mediated and fought by third-party participants on the blog.

Ripping stuff, I say, but I'm a participant.

Sounds good look for my entries soon.

Looking forward to welcome you there!

'EvE' is basically a common journal where wargamers post, at their own pace, news from their (own & kept independant) campaigns; several also report the 'adventures' of characters of their own countries, ± "novelization of RPG" fashion.http://emperor-elector.blogspot.com/2008/08/any-port-after-storm.html The messages are sometimes light-hearted, even tongue-in-cheek.
Ambassadors are sometimes exchanged, but for the enjoyement of the correspondance, not to affect each player's own campaign link link .
Then, these exchanges are stimulating and may be inspirational, suggesting new developments in this campaigns or that: the Jacobite Uprising now gamed by American players link was suggested by events in a British one's own campaign.

Interaction between campaigns / players may go further by mutual agreement. The 'Frankfurters vs Cheesers' campaign link and the 'Hesse-Fedora vs Hesse-Homburg' one link are partly interlinked with the 'Gallia vs Hesse-Seewald' conflict. As Mulopwepaul wrote, sometimes several contributors indulge in 'real' diplomatic and military interactions between their countries, the battles being 'gamed' by third parties acting as proxies link link link link or players 'send' characters from their country to make a cameo appearance in the campaign of fellow gamers link .
Just come and see by yourself, check & peruse the 'Eve' blog, emperor-elector.blogspot.com access is free and anonymous!

Prinz Geoffrey,

I've left a note on your blog. But generally speaking, the EvE group blog is for Diplomacy between Imagi-Nations. Many story lines and a number of battles have grown out of such interaction.

It is NOT a place for discussing rules or figure scales or painting techniques or any of the many valid subjects that really belong on our personal blogs.

We have close to 50 members . . . although some are far more active than others . . . indeed some seem to have drifted away (but they occasionally post anyway).

Cavenderia would be a welcome addition.

Basically Emperor vs Elector is a locale for Lace Wars Imagi-Nations rulers to post news, reports and adventures from their own, independant campaigns -a great source of mutual enjoyement and inspiration. Occasionally several contributors, by mutual agreement, go to 'real' diplomacy and 'interlink' their campaigns.
This means that each campaign proceseds at its own pace, contributor are submitted to neither schedule nor urgency from the 'EvE' community.
Btw having one's one blog is in no way compulsory: Jeff would provide you with a blogger ID allowing to post on 'EvE'.

Some contributors post regularly, some, after an initial 'burst' of posts, seem to drift away. This may reflect a shift in wargaming interest (Dispersion – the fate / bane of many wargamer: Ach! Gross Malheur!), more often the requirements and pressures from "The Real World™": sometimes pleasant link , too frequently very harsh link . But it's cyclical, contributors reappear as soon as they can.

Time is as elastic as space in the 'EvE' corner of the multiverse, the time span covers potentially from the GNW/WSS to unhistorical campaigns just after the AWI.

The countries that made up the 'EvE' world are imaginary at vey different degrees:
-a few are 100% historical but for the name: thus Gallia = France, Hesse-Seewald = Prussia altefritz.blogspot.com (a good way to play 'historical' campaigns without a(du)ltering History?).
- Some field a purely historical army, but the name and geographical location of the country is changed, e.g. Wittenberg link
Their armies can easily moonlight in historical games (and, it is argued, can be more easily sold than original, fictitious ones!).
- Most are entirely fictional, their creators generally using David's excellent SYW uniforms templates nba-sywtemplates.blogspot.com to design -and publish for our pleasure- their original uniforms.

The 'EvE' brotherhood offers a warm welcome to Cavenderia!

"Jeff, the Inhaber of Emperor vs Elector" just amended our list of Imagi-National blogs, now arranged in order of the most recent post . . . hopefully to aid you in learning the latest news. Of course, since -treating my blog as a library rather than a journal, for easier info. retrieval- I update old posts rather than add new messages, Monte-Cristo is declassed!

To conclude the previous message, since *nobody* knows all the uniforms and flags of the 300+ statelets of the Holy Empire by Lace Wars times, regiments of 'historical' minis painted in fictitious uniforms can appear in 'historical' games as a contingent from some Kries!

Andygamer, caml1420, Ivan DBA, John the OFM, Jovian1, Mikeah, TeutonicTexan, The Gray Ghost, Warjack and others we are waiting for you! Remember, you do NOT need to have your own blog to join.

and of course (I was listing 'promising' TMP members without a blog of their own) Cardinal Hawkwood: I'm sure you already have an historical background for Kopf-Schlager, and spicy stories and gossip about some of its major characters. Such would be enjoyed by the 'EvE' brotherhood (*)
Hope you'll be interested.

Eminency,
bring with you at least Andygamer: I suspect he is ready to take the Imagi-Nation plunge – or already took it.

'Alternate' Lace Wars Australia is now well represented by Neues Sudland neuessudland.blogspot.com and New wales link
Activity is intense, the 1000 posts mark recently passed link

The basic purpose of the ‘Emperor vs Elector' collective blog –«The League of Lace Wars Imagi-Nations» is that of a message board where members post ‘flashnews' from their campaigns, redirecting to their own blogs. But ‘EvE' is also the locale of true interactions.

Concerning the 'battles by proxy' TMP link
they are steadily mutiplicating: typically a neutral third party fights the game for two members that cannot physically meet in 'the Real world™'
link
link .
The 'Crooked Kobold Affair' link
game at the 2008 SYW Association convention link was also such a 'game by proxy'.
But also a distant gamer can play a battle as a proxy link for a fellow solo gamers unsure of his ‘neutrality' link . Or play a naval battle for another member lacking ship models and experience… link

Another friendly, genial interaction between 'EvE' members is the exchange of 'characters' minis – as 'loaned' unit commanders or Honour Guards

or as diplomats:

In a more traditional manner, characters from one individual campaign ‘visit' virtually other countries: currently Reich Duke Wilhelm of Saxe-Beerstein is making a Grand Tour of Imagi-Nations link He already visited the Free Town link of Tippelbruder link (a symbol, the location the first ‘EvE' «proxy battle») and Raubenstadt link and is now expected in Mitteland link and Hetzenberg link and, hopefully, Monte-Cristo link
(unfortunately the corresponding posts on ‘EvE' were not –are not yet?- ‘labelled').
Also, a player can ‘take charge' of another gamer's loaned ‘character' and 'write' his / adventures:

A lot of activity and fun, then!
