In case you need them, here are some propaganda posters for your Chinese/Korean invasion "Red Dawn":

So, have fun!

By the way, according to this, the talk now is that the invaders will be North Koreans:

That's even less plausible than the Chinese, and the idea of the Chinese conducting a land/air invasion is preposterous.

infojunky13 Jun 2011 3:10 a.m. PST

I like the posters…

North Korea!?!… How? Even if they mobilized the entire country we out number them 10 to one….

Norman D Landings13 Jun 2011 3:58 a.m. PST

North Korea, is it?

Right.

So… how long has it been going on, then? How long have you been seeing this 'North Korea' for your movie villains?

What's wrong with us, all of a sudden, eh?
We've been menacing your movies since George Sanders. We've given you decades of villainy. Does that count for nothing?

What's this 'North Korea' doing for you that we couldn't?
They can't even pronounce "Clarice"!

Well, go then. Go to your precious North Korea. See if I care.
But you're not taking the detonators, though. Where are my detonators?

Tch. It won't last. Next time you want proper villainy, you'll be back. On your knees… like you were before Zod!

Ghostrunner13 Jun 2011 5:28 a.m. PST

Somehow I suspect a Noth Korean invasion would get about as far as the first Costco…

FOOD!!!

Lee Brilleaux Fezian13 Jun 2011 6:18 a.m. PST

I understand the Bolivians are interested in bidding on future Hollywood villainy.

Rod Langway13 Jun 2011 6:47 a.m. PST

Truth be told, this is what political correctness running amok has wrought, we are too afraid to offend anyone to portray them as villains in a film (such as China), so now days it is either aliens, or countries with zero political clout such as North Korea (the recent Homefront game also went this route).

*sigh* sometimes I truly do miss the Cold War……

skippy000113 Jun 2011 8:06 a.m. PST

Obviously they tunneled under the Pacific.

LOL

Don't forget the Chinese "ninjas", just like 300 had their Persian "ninjas".

I heard this was due to the Chinese being offended by the concept of being the "bad" guys. They do have alot of money see that what they want is done.

And that is proof positive that capitalism won… the film industry, such that it is, is not so much concerned with political correctness as they are selling their product.

doug redshirt13 Jun 2011 4:54 p.m. PST

Sorry you cant have an invasion movie without a credible invading nation. This is like Luxembourg invading Germany.

Doug: "Sorry you cant have an invasion movie without a credible invading nation. This is like Luxembourg invading Germany."

Ever heard of Grand Fenwick?

There isn't a credible invading nation… the two ocean moat has largely been successful in making invasion a logistical nightmare for anyone except Canada and Mexico. Canada was fairly successful at one point, and the Mexican Empire certainly presented a somewhat credible threat in the Great War era, but invasion by an Asian nation is very nearly science fiction.

Of course, that does mean it has a place on the Sci-fi discussion boards, a place where it frequently pops up.

"And we will have the obligatory 'Hot Asian Chick In Uniform'

and <Gaaaack!> the dreaded Segway Assault Force!

Cacique Caribe13 Jun 2011 7:43 p.m. PST

Astragant,

That's why the original film used the premise of years of continued infiltration by Nicaraguan and Cuban agents posing as "immigrants" from Mexico and other countries.

They became the vanguard for the invasion.

Prologue/Opening Narration: "Soviet Union suffers worst wheat harvest in 55 years… Labor and food riots in Poland. Soviet troops invade… Cuba and Nicaragua reach troop strength goals of 500,000. El Salvador and Honduras fall… Greens Party gains control of West German Parliament. Demands withdrawal of nuclear weapons from European soil… Mexico plunged into revolution… NATO dissolves. United States stands alone."

Later on Col. Andy Tanner explains to the Wolverines: "Yeah. That's right. Infiltrators came up illegal from Mexico. Cubans mostly. They managed to infiltrate SAC bases in the Midwest, several down in Texas and wreaked a helluva lot of havoc, I'm here to tell you. They opened up the door down here, and the whole Cuban & Nicaraguan armies come walking right through, rolled right up here through the Great Plains."

Bongolesia cant afford a Segway

What's wrong with us, all of a sudden, eh?
We've been menacing your movies since George Sanders. We've given you decades of villainy. Does that count for nothing?

now now We still need you for the urbane sophisticated villains but for this We need crude barbarous villains.

Grizzlymc14 Jun 2011 10:43 a.m. PST

Im not sure that international law lets you refer to those whose lifestyle choices verge on the villanous in these derogatory terms. Crude and barbarous suggests a failure to recognise and celebrate diversity.

Grizzlymc14 Jun 2011 4:28 p.m. PST

A President of the people then?

Coelacanth193815 Jun 2011 5:40 p.m. PST

The North Korean probably bred a secret army in their underground bases.

Cacique Caribe15 Jun 2011 6:56 p.m. PST

Politically correct or not, these are the figures I would use for the invaders:

link

But, if the movie producers think they are going to make more money by using a completely unrealistic enemy, they are crazy. I think they are gonna go bankrupt.

My guess for an invasion 10-15 years from now . . .

As fossil fuels dwindle, an invasion of Alaska and Northern Canada, by either Neo-Soviets or Chinese, to take possession of oil reserves. So sculpting near-future figures in winter gear (US, Russian and/or Chinese) would make lots of sense to me. And gaming scenarios would involve a lot of missions to retake those territories.

What's YOUR guess?

Who do you think would be desperate enough to attempt an invasion in 10-15 years, and what would be their motive? Or do you think it could never happen so soon?

I don't mean an attack. I mean a military invasion, as in taking over large areas of USA states and/or territories.

I figured that, if we can discuss these "distant" future events now, and objectively, it should help sculptors anticipate future ranges.

Get your Chinese troops now, in time for the invasion of America:

And, to me, the Chinese make a lot more sense than Koreans:

Hmmm, while flipping channels, saw Roseanne Barr on the Joy Behar show (shudder), and behind her was a nice propaganda poster showing Roseanne in communist/socialist gear, wearing a black beret, and holding a gun, if I'm not mistaken.

Would be just the thing needed to inspire the 5th Column troops!

There is a certain amount of prestige in being the villain in a big Hollywood movie.

I was in a movie theater in Albania watching a James Bond movie, and when "M" was describing the villain to James Bond, he said he was Albanian. The crowd started cheering. And after that, they only cheered for the villain, not James Bond.

Weird, when I read the thread title the first thing I thought was "Red Dawn" set in China.

That would actually pretty awesome, I think. Who would we use as the improbably villains? I'm thinking (throws dart at map) Micronesia! Micronesia has tanks and mecha, right?

Moqawama29 Dec 2012 2:36 a.m. PST

"Somehow I suspect a Noth Korean invasion would get about as far as the first Costco"

It's nice to see there are still people living in 1997.

skippy000101 Jan 2013 11:52 a.m. PST

I say WE invade everyone and anyone just to solve our economic problems. Start with Monaco and work our way up.

Cacique Caribe09 May 2013 10:55 a.m. PST

Now the Koreans can finally stage their invasion properly …

"Manchip" is an awesome middle name…

Mako1110 Jun 2013 11:39 a.m. PST

Yea, I think CC has it right.

Besides, everyone knows its the Kiwis we need to be watching, since they are secretly plotting to take over the world.

War Monkey10 Jun 2013 1:46 p.m. PST

We don't need a movie of you Aussies invading someone, thought you guys were busy fighting off your own invasion "Tomorrow when the war began"

Up to last year the Pentagon spent $10 USD billion on IT R&D. After the New Zealand's Prime Minister (a former Wall st speculator)recent allusion to NZ having WMDs (despite an antique Nuclear Free policy), can you imagine how much New Zealand is spending on stealing that imformation?

Yeah, but Tasmania has Devils! That's way more dangerous than any nukes.

China does not approve, as would be expected:

Thank goodness for independent films.

Update -

Just found an entirely different poster for the 2013 independent film "Dragon Day" that some of you with expert photoshop abilities might turn into a post-invasion propaganda poster:

picture

link

It almost makes me want to look for a 2 or 3 inch Mao plastic figure in that pose, to put on a pedestal base in the middle of terrain representing an American town or city square or parade ground.

Anyway, I hope you guys can use it for your gaming needs, such as the original premise of the Red Dawn remake, which would have be a Chinese invasion scenario.
