Chinese troops like these here: picture link link Does anyone make them now? Or, at the very least, is someone planning to release 15mm figures like those any time soon? Dan TMP link TMP link |
Cacique Caribe | 05 Apr 2010 10:22 p.m. PST |
But, what if done in 15mm, per the parameters of this discussion? Dan |
GeoffQRF | 05 Apr 2010 11:12 p.m. PST |
He's still doing the new range of modern French, plus finishing off the new modern US (including some special forces on horseback), but the weapons are done. You need to blame the WW2 crowd slightly for the delay, as they wanted the Belgians to include Chasseurs Ardennaise, so that moved me to a side project. Hopefully have them sorted by the summer. |
GeoffQRF | 06 Apr 2010 1:35 a.m. PST |
Actually, they won't be like that. The modern figures I am producing will have the new bullpup rifle. If you want them with the Type 56 (AK47 copy) Soviets are probably best (ah, now you're going to want me to get the new post-1991 Russians done
) |

I can see the bullpup armed guys finding themselves in some low tech scifi armies. |
Rebel Minis | 06 Apr 2010 4:27 a.m. PST |
We have some coming out in about a month

CPT Jake | 06 Apr 2010 5:28 a.m. PST |
Mike, I suspected Rebel had some coming out
Wonder why I would have thought that? Jake |
Cacique Caribe | 06 Apr 2010 7:10 a.m. PST |
So, aside from the Chinese, we need some resistance fighters, right? TMP link Dan |
Coyotepunc and Hatshepsuut | 06 Apr 2010 7:33 a.m. PST |
I'm down for some modern chinese with bullpup-style rifles for low-tech sci-fi forces. Exactly what I might need, in fact. |
Cacique Caribe | 06 Apr 2010 8:01 a.m. PST |
I must say that, what QRF and Rebel minis are doing is precisely the kind of forward-thinking that brings success!!! Timing is everything, specially when it comes to selling to a bunch of impulse buyers like us. Dan |
GeoffQRF | 06 Apr 2010 8:20 a.m. PST |
If I had been that forward thinking, I'd have got them done last year when I planned to :-) |
Cacique Caribe | 06 Apr 2010 8:37 a.m. PST |
Hey, but the key is that you planned for that initially! You were thinking ahead. But life has a way of modifying one's plans. Dan |
nvdoyle | 06 Apr 2010 10:55 a.m. PST |
I thought the Chinese were moving away from the Type 95 bullpup, back to a conventional layout with the Type 03. From what I can see here world.guns.ru/assault/as00-e.htm at 15mm any AK armed modern troop should do, with the right helmets and paint job. |
GeoffQRF | 06 Apr 2010 1:56 p.m. PST |
So they are (for unspecified reasons), but as you say in that case any AK armed troop would probably do. I intend to replace the older Soviet motor rifles and at the same time update a new range of post 1991 Russians, so with the right paint job

I've heard those same rumours about the change in rifle, but also heard that it's complete BS – the Type 03 could end up being another NORINCO export to Africa but at least this time it's not a 100% knock off (their M16 clone comes to mind). I'm also keen for 15mm modern Chinese – vehicles too please – but with the Type 95. |
Cacique Caribe | 07 Apr 2010 5:56 a.m. PST |
Bill Why was this removed from SF? I was asking for input on figures (authentic or not) that specifically matched the Red Dawn remake which, I believe, is a SF movie. The purpose of this thread was to obtain input from modern gamers, but for use by SF gamers. Dan |
GeoffQRF | 07 Apr 2010 6:19 a.m. PST |
I haven't seen much of it yet, but I would have described it as contemporary 'what-if' modern rather than sci fi. The helmets are going to look pretty similar to US designs at that scale, so you could probably use our new US figures with M16 or M4 in place of the CQ, although it seems to be mainly an export/license build weapon (Sudan, Paraguay, Iran). The Type 03 can be simulated by use of any Soviet/Russian figures. The Type 95 is distinctively visually different, hence that choice for the range. I have the Type 95, QBB and a few oddities like the QLB-06 and FHJ-84 ready
;-) |

Hmm. Don't you just love purists? Why does it bother them so much that a thread is linked to two or more related discussion boards (but not so wide in scope to fall under General Wargaming)? Is it that they don't want a product they consider "theirs" to be used by people playing a different genre? Or, perhaps, they have such a hard time understanding that there's a legitimate cross-post feature here on TMP because a product can be useful for more than one genre. But then, later on, they find out that something was made for the other genre (like "near future" terrain, figures, etc.), something they wish they had known about, and they wonder why they had never heard of it before, when it could have been useful to them. I seriously doubt a horse would willingly ask for blinders, so it confuses me when a human does. Dan |
doug redshirt | 07 Apr 2010 5:06 p.m. PST |
I am glad you started this thread Dan. I will need some Chinese soldiers for a conflict that will take place about 10-20 years in the future. Now I know at least 2 companies that will have figures for me to use. I dont know why this couldnt be cross posted to both threads. I am looking for vehicles and figures to use in wars taking place in 2020-2030. It is hard to find armored figures not armed with ray guns. I want uparmored infantry with assualt rifles and SAWs not Lasar or plasma guns. So is that Sci-fi or modern? |
McWong73 | 07 Apr 2010 5:11 p.m. PST |
Dan, you're over reading things mate. From an editor's perspective look at the subject of your post as a possible reason why it was moved from the SF boards. If you had asked about "near future Chinese figures" you may have a point, but the subject used is "modern chinese". |

@ QRF or Rebel Minis, any updates on Modern Chinese or post-91 Russians in 15mm? |

In the absence of a specific range you can use Peter Pig figures for Chinese they look fine painted up. |

Still a long way to go for Eurekas PLA! I would count on QRF getting them done first, but I'd love to have two different makers! |

GeoffQRF | 09 Nov 2010 6:41 a.m. PST |
Depends how close you want to be to the film – I believe the pre-release photos show them with Type 56 (AK clones) rather than the QBZ-95 |
badger22 | 09 Nov 2010 8:51 a.m. PST |
Come on, it is Red Dawn. How much accuracy do you need? Due to restricted finances, once I figure out what rules to use, it will probably be Union ACW for the resistance and German SS with STG-44 for the Chinese. Anything more accurate than that will be great. I do wish I had the time and money to get everything right for every period I want to do, but until I win the lottery, substitution is the name of the game. |
