Has anyone bought the GZG civilian and security packs shown at the top of this page? link And at the bottom of this one? link If so, what sort of 15mm terrain/scenics is out there for off-world pioneers like those? Thanks. CC TMP link |

QUESTION: So what do you suggest for 15mm space frontier terrain like this: link CC |
Riverbluff Wargames | 03 Jan 2009 4:42 p.m. PST |
Hey CC, If you are referring to the small settlement with the Alliance bar at the beginning of the episode those buildings looked like concrete prefab buildings. I would use cardboard packing that comes around some electronics and such. I have used it for tons of Star Wars terrain and they work great. You can even build them so the roofs come off. For Firefly I would add bits of corrugated cardboard to look like metal and other more futuristic bits. If it's the mining town later in the episode I would go with a mix of 15mm Old West, ACW, and maybe even some modern type buildings mixed in. For the earlier types of buildings I would definitely add bits to make them more Sci-Fi. This site has some links to Old West style buildings. link Old Crow has a couple of Sci-fi buildings and some nice pipe-line. oldcrowmodels.co.uk I know there are others out there I just don't have the links right at hand. |
Riverbluff Wargames | 03 Jan 2009 4:44 p.m. PST |
Of course for the Core worlds any modern to Sci-fi terrain would work well. |

The next question I have is . . . What ground vehicles should I get for the security troops that will be the few law enforcement staff available to help my Mars colonists against their sudden infestation of 6 foot centipedes? link Would that be the Scout Car (AFV007)? picture CC |

GZG have an immense range of 15mm vehicles. You should be able to find sometihng there. IIRC, they recently released some sort of all-terain pickups that could mork for security forces/militia. |

WereSandwich, After you post I got a good look at their vehicles. Great choices there. Thanks! CC |

"GZG have an immense range of 15mm vehicles. You should be able to find sometihng there. IIRC, they recently released some sort of all-terain pickups that could mork for security forces/militia." Yep, our recent Bulldog high-mobility trucks work really well for that, two or three of the closed-back troop carrier type (V15-42A) and maybe one of the open ones with a gun mount in the back for fire support (41A or 41B) will give you an excellent transport platoon for some lower tech planetary forces. Jon, Wow. I really love that "V15-42C Bulldog 4-wheel HMTV closed-back Logistics Carrier version (great as a civilian/colonist truck!)". Bottom of this page: link Works great for something like this: link CC |

For buildings in the 'Verse, use a mix of Old Crow Sci Fi, Peter Pig Wild West and whatever adobe buildings you like the look of. SciFi them up with 'silver' gadgets, water condensors, piping, antennae, satellite dishes, 'corrugated' iron verandahs. I agree wih Jon about the GZG Bulldog high-mobility trucks. I bought a couple of both the closed troop carriers and open back 'gun trucks' for exactly this type of scenario. They are superb little vehicles. Take a look at the command version with the 'radar' or directional transmitter dish as I think it's ideal as a colonist/prospector/scientific reasarch vehicle in addition to it's intended military role. Well, last weekend I went ahead and ordered: All three GZG armed civilian packs; The tech-crew pack; Both security forces (cops) packs; The two packs of FCT troops; and The Assault Team and Grunts packs Can't wait to see them in person. CC |
Earl of the North | 08 Jan 2009 3:24 p.m. PST |
I've got all of those except for the FCT's, very, very nice figures apart from the Assault Team and Grunt packs which feature massive heads, the SG1 types are the okay, but the other guys just look funny
..i'm experimenting with some head swaps for them. I've just ordered 64 New Israei's and 48 NSL powered armoured troopers (plus a couple of Ixx for experimentation purposes) to add to my growing horde. |
