Has anyone made a terrain table of a secret underground base? If so, any photos you can share? I also want to see what you did to give it a solid concrete look, hopefully something like this: picture Thanks!!! CC TMP link |

I'm not sure if it would work, but maybe you could put maskingtape along foamboard walls and then add some really fine sand to PVA for brush on texture,, that would probably give you a good impression of concrete.. best to try on some not important bit first :) |

I paint with acrylac, pour on sand, then paint over. Effective. |

A convincing concrete is the white foam sheets with sticky backing. They can be scribed, and just a very light wash of flat black makes it look like concrete. Great for sidewalks, concrete floors as well. |

Any pics of what the final product looks like? CC |

Well
probably not what you are looking for, but I always liked the look of the Worldworks Games cardstock sets Platform Command found here: link And the follow-up set, Red Sector, found here: link Both remind me perhaps, more of a James Bond underground base, or an Aliens genre base, because of the steel floors and walkways. But as underground bases go, they are quite nice IMHO. For that matter, Firstlight: link And Mars Station: link Can also give one ideas. The former set is designed for spaceships, but those textures can be right at home for underground bases with narrow corridors. Steve |

Sorry CC. I can't show you any pics of my secret underground base. It wouldn't be secret, then. Ohhh, you mean miniatures terrain? Nope, haven't done any yet. Now, back to my hideout

Smokeyroan, How about cutting 2 inch strips of 1/2 inch thick pink board (expanded polystyrene), adding buttresses and such, and then doing the sand thing on that? I would assume that it would involve use of the absolute finest grain sand, as uniform as possible (like the sand used in bottled sand art – available at craft stores)? How is that for a start? CC |

Thats the ticket, cc. Except you can buy ultra fine sand in bulk at Home Depot much cheaper. :) |

I buy clean sand in 50# bags for $3.49. It's fairly fine "beach style" sand and works very well for my purposes. Here are a few new 2" thick stackable "table rock" pieces for a transportable terrain board using the sand to add color, texture and strength to the Styro0 picture |

Oh, and I forgot to say that I get the sand at Home Depot . |

Have you tried combining Dwarven Forge's Master Maze Cavern sets with their Science Fiction Master Maze sets. You could easily set up an underground facility that way. |

There is a link in this thread to my underground base set-up using Dwarven Forge sci-fi terrain: TMP link I also use this 3 level board for dungeouns, etc. |

Wow!!! I love the multiple level set up. Many thanks, Blackhawk1. CC |

Hi Blackhawk1, Nice to see that set-up again. The adventure sounded like a blast when I heard it the last time and it is the gift that keeps on giving this time too. Have a great Thanksgiving! You too CC. |

Certain colors of this link can work well for cement, at lest in 25-30mm stuff. For anything smaller the particles are too big for realistic cement. I am tempted to try and build a Soviet era missle base for 28s now

Masonry paint looks good for concrete. It's got very fine sand already in the paint. Covering something with fine sand and then painting over it looks OK for streets, roads etc, but I think it's too coarse for walls. Masonry paint is just fine. Bought a tub at Wilkinsons (UK) for £8.00 GBP a few years ago and I'm only about a third of the way through. That includes using itfor its intended purpose (touching up the outside of the house). |
