First of all, this is just a random result from watching too many episodes of the above-mentioned show. I guess there aren't too many big battles, and most of the action is just little skirmishing at most, but some more action-oriented scenes could possibly be converted into something playable. And a little X-com crossover might also be in place here, ufo recovery and stuff.

So the big question is: which minis would be the best?

What I've been thinking:
* Copplestone Future Wars – Greys, Men in Black, Troopers and Bio-Chem Squad. Gangsters range provides also some good suits.
* TAG – SWAT range and maybe some other moderns.

Other needed figures:
* Laboratory personnell types of different kinds – fully enclosed hazard suits to medical doctor types.
* The dramatis personae of the show.

Any more suggestions?

Cacique Caribe13 Jan 2007 10:41 p.m. PST

I love the idea. I have watched way too many episodes, though my favorite ones will always be the episodes about mutants and one-of oddities (not the alien conspiracy stuff).

Don't forget the figures that Copplestone did for Grenadier (now sold by EM-4 Miniatures): link

Also, are you thinking of following entire RPG-like storylines like with the X-Files Game? link

Or will you just concentrate on playing conflict situations only?

Plus, in the case of duplicate figures, you can simply say they are clones!

PS. Actually, I would be more inclined to do an X-File parody, like the movie "Evolution":

Playing an X-files mini game sounds like a lot of fun!

Check-out Lance and Laser's 'Bureau 13' range they have a
'Scolder & Mully'!

lance-and-laser.com

Not a 'serious' range, but the figs have plenty of character.

Grinning Norm13 Jan 2007 10:57 p.m. PST

Ah, those are some great links you have there. Searched a bit through the TMP archives, but didn't get too many good results.

I was more thinking about the mytharc, at least for a campaigny setting. Enough situations where a few agents can face off against other agents, aliens, hybrids, clones or a heavy-handed cover up team. Many of the Motw episodes have less of that imo.

Would also be looking forward to building some suitable terrain, such as a train wagon laboratory, more laboratories and dark places, a ufo, etc.

eden studios put out a couple of models for their conspiracy x game:

For roleplaying, it may be served better to have the players portray members of the conspiracy and have their protagonists be Mulder & Scully or other members of the FBI.

Don't count out .45 Adventure for rules either. Even though they are designed for an earlier era, given the limited weapons in use, I think you could fudge some weapons and use them. This would give you a good blend of miniature and role-play gaming.

Sounds like fun.

As for your questions… well the truth is out there.

But please, if you take this up, make to mandatory for every character to carry a flashlight!

I've never known a series where so many lighting systems fail.

Grinning Norm14 Jan 2007 7:50 a.m. PST

Sue, but that's perfectly explainable. The radiation and electromagnetic energy and what not more are lethal to lights.

Coelacanth14 Jan 2007 9:34 a.m. PST

Lights fail, but cell phones never do.

"Where are you, Mulder?"

"I'm inside the containment building of a nuclear reactor, why do you ask?"

I toyed with the idea of Call of Cthulhu stats for Mulder and Scully. My conclusion from seeing the show is that they are above average, but not remarkably so. They are, however, phenomenally lucky. Also, Mulder needs to be light a few SAN points.

White Knight14 Jan 2007 9:52 a.m. PST

Excalibur does a very good Mulder and Scully in their scifi range. They come with a little gray alien giving them the finger: link

I am thinking of doing a similar thing. I love the idea of X-Files themed games. I have just ordered the two agents from Eden miniatures and am looking at either copplestone castings (which I cannot fault) or Griffin Miniatures for the aliens. Then same as you Copplestone Castings Future Wars stuff for the other models.

I was really interested to know what ruleset you will be using and where it is available. :)

Cheers,
Ben.

evilmike21 Apr 2007 10:22 p.m. PST

I once ran a Delta Green game (setting for Cthulhu modern, by Pagan Publishing…check it out) where the players ran across a couple of FBI agents bearing more than a close resemblance to Scully and Mulder..:)

If it's an RPG you're after do you actually need figs ?????? I've found them occasionally useful but mostly distracting. (forces players to think too tactically, rather than heroically)

I could recommend the Cold City RPG to use as a rule set. It's pretty much X files in the 1950's, but is easily updated to modern day.

There are probably a few RAFM modern day figures that would work, and maybe a few more from the Call of Cthulhu line that could be useful to you.

The Antiquarian, reporter and boss are relatively normalish looking folks.
link

The doctors, students and professors all could fit in. They are all in 1920s dress, but for many of them, especially the ones in suits, you couldn't tell much difference and they'd fit into the modern day just fine.
link

Reaper has some in the Chronoscope line that could work for some unusual modern day types.
Especially this one: link

As far as rules go, I have a pal who plays in both the pulp era and some X-Files stuff using a combination of True20 and Mutants and Masterminds. I'm not a huge fan of D20 myself, but it seems to work well enough for him.

Post pics when you get some together!

Seems to fit nicely with the computer game FEAR as well.
