Forget roads . . .

With all that recent talk about ice melt and sea level rise . .

Is this cool or what?

If people really believe in that theory, I can't believe there hasn't been much done to game these new scenarios.

Dan, you are trying to force me to relocate to a higher place I think by showing all those lovely maps… :D

Cacique Caribe28 Mar 2010 1:21 p.m. PST

Well, if all that talk is true, I may need to move too (or get a houseboat). :)

I wonder if these Australian beauties will move from their present range south into the new gulf:

Please dont anyone mention that waterlogged Roadwarrior rip-off movie…..eish.

Cacique Caribe28 Mar 2010 1:51 p.m. PST

But I hardly saw any water in that flick! :)

Pictors Studio28 Mar 2010 3:14 p.m. PST

Yeah, I was going to say, they did that, it flopped, like a fish.

Cacique Caribe28 Mar 2010 3:19 p.m. PST

Really? I thought he was joking.

What Australian movie was that? What was the title, do you remember?

Dan

Cacique Caribe28 Mar 2010 3:24 p.m. PST

Hold on a second. You guys aren't talking about Waterworld, are you?

C'mon. That wasn't Australia! That was supposed to be a world wide event, for the most part.

I'm talking pirates and settlers along a new coast, the coast all these doomsday prophets are talking about, not on floating islands in sea levels that could never be!!!

I'm talking about a new and very, very wet, marshy coastal outback. Like this projection (or the other ones in the links on the first post):

life.com/image/72037547

That would turn into an inland sea a lot of what is now low elevation desert:

A bit like a billabong, with marshes all around the inland seas:

Tank Girl then ? :o)

Cacique Caribe28 Mar 2010 3:48 p.m. PST

Hmm. Dunno. Never heard of Tank Girl. I will look it up.

In the meantime . . .

Imagine this kind of action in those inland seas (minus the Orcs and other non-humans):

All sand… and reusable self-bottling water… :D

Well I think there will be both land and water warriors. On land your going to have the highway men or gangs of different degrees, and on the water your going to have pirates to different degrees. All the major cities that you can think of on the current coastal line will be gone on the purposed coastal line all the people in these cities are going to go somewhere ether further inland or their going to go to sea, going inland will have it's own problems which will be the people that are already there and don't want others moving in and taking lane away that's going to be needed for food, let's face it you wouldn't want 200 people moving in on your property and taking food from your family. so I would think many would end up going to the water and make their living that way now what they do for a living will be the issue.

Well, I wonder if, instead of the Simpson Desert, it would be called the Simpson Sea, with the other one being something like the South Wales Sea:

Well hey, according to those maps, if the sea level rises 100ft it will completely wipe out the part of California I grew up in.

Go go global warming!

Cacique Caribe28 Mar 2010 10:19 p.m. PST

LOL!

Dan

Cacique Caribe28 Mar 2010 11:06 p.m. PST

QUESTION:

Any Australians here care to shed some light on what such a sea level rise would do to the interior?

Thanks.

They are getting into pre-production for Mad Max IV, rumoured to be 'on location' for 6 months round Broken Hill.

Cacique Caribe29 Mar 2010 2:16 a.m. PST

Really? Wow.

I wonder if they'll go with the current global warming fashion and say that the glaciers have melted and flooded large areas of the Outback.

bullant29 Mar 2010 4:33 a.m. PST

Can do better than tell you… If the link works you can see for yourself. There is currently an inland sea in Queensland and New South Wales and the water is headed for South Australia

boggler29 Mar 2010 11:39 a.m. PST

Oh Bleeped text.

Cacique Caribe29 Mar 2010 1:58 p.m. PST

LOL. If the ice melt prophets are right, just wait until that flooding becomes a permanent body of water.

So, get those minis ready for gaming scenarios in the new marshes and islands of the outback!!!

Guys,

Here's another cool 100-meter map (though it seems more like a map for 150 meters):

Got environment (WWG Swampwoods village, Legend of Skull Cove). Can work out minis myself.
Need rules.
Need people to play with (where EVERY game falls apart for me.)

Cacique Caribe30 Mar 2010 7:41 p.m. PST

Looking for rules too:
