What sort of rules do you think would cover amphibious landings and boat to boat action? Thanks. Dan link TMP link TMP link |

Flagship Games' "Pirates!" (now with Rattlehead, IIRC). |

Thanks, Farstar. As Chironex says here, I guess there are still no modern rules to tackle such scenarios? TMP link I hope someone comes up with a hybrid set of rules for modern skirmish with appropriate amphibious action. Dan |

Maybe you could adapt something like the Nuclear Renaissance rules or Skankgame or something? The closest you will get is Boat Wars which comes with the Car Wars compendium. |

Boat Wars? First I hear of it. I'll check it out. Thanks. Dan |

Hmm. I was hoping the product description for "Pirates!" included some mention of rules adaptations for modern piracy. link Well, I guess a hybrid ruleset is still needed here for modern piracy action, one that takes into account speedboats, landing craft, boat to boat action, post-apocalyptic shore/island defenders, etc. Any takers? How about AK 47 Republic or Force On Force/Ambush Valley? |
richarDISNEY | 31 Mar 2010 9:20 a.m. PST |
Pirates! does NOT have modern weapons
Just a heads up. It historical/fantasy
But it really is a great set of rules.

Cross peter Pigs AK47 (which will also give you the "tribe") with his pirate games. Covered up to campaign level. |
nvdoyle | 31 Mar 2010 11:01 a.m. PST |
Yeah, this sounds like a candidate for an AK47 Republic expansion. |

I suggested Pirates! as an easy way to handle boat/ship movement. Modern/PA small arms are also not a stretch, along with the sea monster rules, extremely unreliable submarines, and "magic" in the form of bigger guns. In a modern setting, the big naval guns are the argument ender, but they rarely get used since recovering the pirate's stolen ship is a major objective. This reduces most conflicts involving mounted weaponry to deck sweeping. Modern conflict also has that pesky 3rd dimension to deal with. Easily accessed and used decks below the top deck are fairly common, especially once you involve a cruise ship (and you know someone will), so flat ship depictions are going to be inadequate unless you come up with a mechanism to account for "below decks fire support". |

Pirates of the Vistula a Twilight 2000 adventure module Pirates of the Vistula provides complete rules for a new type of warfare in the world of Twilight: 2000 – riverine combat. All of the important forces along the river, such as the bandit and marauder units and, of course, the vicious river pirates, who virtually rule the river itself, are described in terms of organization, equipment, and motivations link I'm sure it can be configured to what you need plus it would have all modern weapons |

Mediterranean Cruise another Twilight 2000 game module. Rules for combat between small surface vessels, deckplans and maps for use with these rules. link |

Are all of those RPG rules then? Dan TMP link |
War Monkey | 02 Apr 2010 9:20 p.m. PST |
Yes Dan they are but might have some good info in them and modern weapons so fudging, converting may not be so hard if you understand my meaning. Collecting information from all sources nothing wrong with that in order to make something work, I know you have been working hard on this project I don't want to see you get halted because of lack of rules or information. You might be the first to come up with some really good modern pirate rules for everybody. Doug |

"You might be the first to come up with some really good modern pirate rules for everybody." Me? Oh, no, no, no. You wouldn't want me to write any rules at all. I have a hard time just reading those things! :) Dan TMP link |

Dan LOL. Me too! That's why I'm not touching it. but If I have too, I will, but that will have to go to the back burner, and would be some time before I can even get to it, have way to many pokers in the fire right now for one more project. there are lots of rules for man to man action that will work, just seems the problem is the boat to boat actions. Wonder if one could treat the boats as light vehicles, (jeeps, trucks, SUVs)just replace the vehicles as boats? Might have to tinker with that? Doug |

Gotta also include scenarios for attacking floating or stationary defenses like these: picture Dan |
