This other thread got my wheels turning:

TMP link

Plus the fact that I will soon be losing my game room to my wife:

link

I think that from now on, I will have to do most of my gaming on a much smaller table on the kitchen island:

link
link

To give you an idea of what that kitchen island is like in size, the board where those pieces rest is 24 x 48 inches!

My miniatures world is shrinking!!!!

As you can see here, all I've ever gamed in my adult years has been 28mm:

link

15mm is an entirely new thing to me, brought about by necessity and size constraints.

HELP!!!! :)

Brigade Games has a nice pack of 15mm pseudo VSF models. One is Indiana Jones for some reason, though.

nazrat17 Oct 2008 9:49 p.m. PST

Just saw the second pack listed there. That's good news for me, although it may not be exactly what you are looking for.

Peter Pig do a character pack in their Patrols in the Sudan range

boggler18 Oct 2008 2:28 a.m. PST

Your best bet would be to sift through the Peter Pig range (including the spare heads) and pick out figures that you could convert. I'd check out the Patrols in the Sudan range, as mentioned, plus the extensive WW1 range and, possibly, the ACW range for conversion material.

boggler18 Oct 2008 2:32 a.m. PST

And I forgot the best option of all whoch is the Hey You in the Jail Wild West range, whoch has plenty of Victorian era rifle and shotgun wielding chaps. Just replace the ten gallon hats (heads) with pith helmets and off you go

Lowtardog18 Oct 2008 4:03 a.m. PST

You could stay in 28mm and use the .45 and its sister publications, they are like serial vignettes and the optimum table size is 2 by 2 which would be ideal.

Theres a "not John Carter" and a big game hunter in Black Hat Miniatures Martian Empires character pack. Plus dinosaur-riding Martians in the Imperial Martians. OK, the dinos have eight legs, but…

CC,

Check out the London War Rooms RAJAH BROOKE range, lots of useful figures. Also, in the Peter Pig ranges, check into the Modern Africa (gators), Vietnam (tiger and water buffalo cart), and Pirates (natvies). Also, Irregulars colonial range has numerous useful figures, as does there animals range.

Of course, my variation of VSF is entirely earth bound and obeys pretty much all the laws of physics. Much more fun if could have really happened as opposed to 'pie in the sky' sillyction (silly-fiction). Nothing wrong with sillyction, just not my cup of tea.

And, welcome to the scale you've been searching for all these years! Once you get back to a bigger table you'll have more elbow room for your figures to roam around in.

CC: I see… another convert to the One True Scale… excellent… evil grin

I hate to see a loss in table size, though. That bites mightily.

Cacique Caribe19 Oct 2008 5:34 p.m. PST

Not diving in just yet. Just testing the waters.

I guess it all depends on whether or not 15mm has figures for periods i want to game.

And, if I feel that Victorians vs Dinosaurs (VVD) will not be possible, I may try PVD instead . . .

Are there photos anywhere of what the Victorians done by Irregular Miniatures look like (set called "Sir Harry/Victorian adventurers in The Land that Time Forgot")?

link

CC

Blasted Brains27 Oct 2008 8:44 p.m. PST

Don't have a photo but have SIr Harry. He is wearing a pith helmet and has a gun held to his side. He is a bit stocky in build and wearing somewhat baggy trousers. Makes for a bold or eccentric character depending on how he gets painted.

Cacique Caribe03 Nov 2008 12:15 p.m. PST

Any other suggestions out there?

Thanks.

HELP!!!

Other than the "Sir Harry" mentioned above (and there's no photo of him anywhere), I have no other specific leads for male and female Victorian explorers.

PLEASE, someone throw me a bone!

Thanks.

You'll find Eureka has a bunch of fine character figs scattered throughout their ranges – I have a bunch of Aristo-Europeans in my Dino Hunting party including a portly Russian Officer, a monacle wearing Prussian and a Foreign Legion Officer, plus a Victoriana lady or 2

Cacique Caribe17 Nov 2008 7:20 a.m. PST

Paul,

Any hint to where those can be found, that you can remember?

Thanks.

Tusk figures finally on their website:

poiter5024 Nov 2008 3:46 a.m. PST

Toobs, sold thru KMart here in Oz, probably WalMart in the US make packs of dinos which would fit in nicely for those beaties, Scleich make larger ones that would loom terrifyingly above the intrepid hunters.

Blasted Brains27 Nov 2008 11:44 p.m. PST

CC, not sure but I think Paul is referring to 25 mm figures rather than 15 mm. Have you checked out London War Room's Rajah Brooke range yet? If not, get you self over there and have a look.

How about Boers?

I have no idea what the OG15 packs are like, though. If they are just one or two poses per pack, then I can disregard that option.

Anyone know?

Thanks.

Try Old Glory 15mm WW11 Italian Command Pack, lots of figures in pith helmets etc.

I think Silver Eagle also stocks some Victorian civilian types that might be good for adventures in London, on the Orient Express, etc.

I just got in some of the Old Glory Boxer Rebellion figs, from Boxes 2 & 3. There are several figures in these packs that would work great for Victorian/Edwardian era adventurers, especially the armed civilians and some of the British and German officers.

Cacique Caribe27 Jun 2009 8:40 p.m. PST

Which ones are those?

Thanks.

CC

Henry V29 Jun 2009 7:18 p.m. PST

Sorry it took me awhile to respond. Here is where I bought them. . .
link

The poses I was talking about consist of guys in slouch hats and bandoliers firing rifles, both kneeling and advancing. There are also several men in pith helmets advancing with revolvers, in various poses. All in all, you would probably get around 20 men that would work for adventurers/explorers. The regulars and marines would probably be nice too, for European armies colonizing your lost world.

The sculptings are also very nice, nicer than I expected considering Old Glory's reputation.

Cacique Caribe29 Jun 2009 10:16 p.m. PST

Henry,

That is great info! I would love to see photos of your figures.

Just to be clear . . . Boxes 2 and 3? The "British Infantry With Command" and the "Italian Bersalergi, German Sea Battalion and Civil"?

And, if I were to order just one of those boxes for now, which one would you recommend as the best one?

Thanks so much.

CC
PS. Wow. Warweb is definitely a lot cheaper now than going direct:

Cacique Caribe29 Jun 2009 11:35 p.m. PST

Two additional questions, if I may . . .

1) Does the Old Glory Boer Wars set (the "Dismounted Boers") include figures that might be useful as guides and poachers? And are there enough poses?

link
link

I hope they look like these:

link

2) Any suggestions for 15mm figures for armed "Victorian" women?

Thanks so much.

CC

Henry V30 Jun 2009 7:21 a.m. PST

I cant't help you on the first point, I have not ordered any Old Glory Boers.

On the second, I suggest you look at this thread. . .
TMP link

And here is what I have found. . .
One armed lady for sure in the Peter Pig "Hey you in the Jail" Range.
peterpig.co.uk/range15.htm

Two armed women in the Brigade games 15mm Character pack (wearing trousers, so not terribly useful.)
link

There are probably more in other American West 15mm sets, I just haven't seen any pictures. I'd bet that there are some figures in this area that would work for trackers/guides as well.

Cacique Caribe30 Jun 2009 7:26 a.m. PST

Thanks a million!

Between your input and that of the fellas on my Boer thread, I think I have the makings of a nice core group of Lost World explorers:

Some day I hope there are 15mm "Victorian" (1880-1918 really) explorers and civilians, both male and female characters, suitable for Darkest Africa, Lost Worlds, and so many other scenarios.

Someone should come up with a couple of armed women like these:

I also love these other explorers. If only they were 15mm:

I'm still in need of 15mm Victorian women.

Anyone know anything about the Lancashire Boxer Rebellion European civilians (see bottom of page)?

How do they look? Would they work ok with the OG 15mm Boxer Rebellion and Boer Wars figures?

Thanks.

Khurasan's "Janice" and the two figures from Brigade Games' Gas Light adventurers might actually work for a while:
