Hiya! Yesterday, I read the first "Lost Regiment" novel by W. Forstchen, which has recently been pulished in german. Really liked the book, and immediately thought "what about painting up some 20mm ACW bluecoats"? Then, I noticed that the book had been originally published back in 1990, so I thought "There must be people out there who have already adapted it, so letīs ask them for advice." Now, where to find loonies that would do an ACW/Ivan the Terrible/Mongol-Nomadic aliens crossover in the 90s and lived to tell the tale
In short, any suggestions, particularly in respect to rules and figures used, will be very welcome. As said, Iīm thinking about using 20mm plastics in 1:10 or even 1:5 figure scale, which will work fine for the 35th, methinks, but what about the Suzdal army and even worse the Tugars? You see my problem, since collecting 10k+ 3-meter aliens scares even me – not to think that from the descriptions in the book, I cannot think of fitting models to use

I loved the series.. and also thot of adapting it, using various era 15's for the humans, and 25mm for the Tugars. I never found anything suitable..:-( I thought of using Mongols (the Tugars being basically the Golden Horde), and converting them using Orc heads, but that was too costly.. Good luck..:-) |

Having read the books, I'd always thought of the Tugars as being in the 7-8 foot height range. Note that even though the local world horses were bred "up" in size for the Tugars, the humans could mount and ride them. Pictured a large wagon horse, not some kind of Arabian cavalry mount, so I did not think the Tugars would be bigger than 7-8 feet in size. That said, if one used 20 mm humans, I'd think that 25 mm Tugars would be fine. Would work better (I think) if you used 10 mm humans and 15 mm Tugars. Because the forces mentioned are huge, I'd suggest that if you went to a set of rules like JRIII, where the 35th Maine and the 44th NY Light Artillery would be small units and you could scale the Russians and Tugars in like sized units (I'd think the Tugars would be in units of 1,000, or in scaled units of 25 figures at 1:40 which I believe is what JRIII is set at). |

Try 25-28mm figs but for any of the Tugars use a elevated base. You will also have to go to a fantasy web site to find figs for the Tugars, or better yet try a post on the fantasy boards and see who can help with figure selection. |

I think Black Hats' 15mm Martian Empires VSF has a range of Giant 4 armed tribal Martians that would make perfect Tugars and there is no shortage at all of 15mm makers of ACW and medieval Muscovy. Take a look at the Scale Creep site. I believe Mark has pictures of all the various giant Tribals. |

Do a TMP search for "Tugars" and "Rally Cry". You will notice that I have been asking the same questions, with very interesting input from members. All the best. CC |

Maybe it's time for a "Lost Regiment" Gaming Yahoo Group, to benefit from collective brainstorming!!! Any volunteers??? I would love to, but time is very limited at this moment, with hurricane season and all. CC |

I'm thinking that 6mm might work the best. Find some 'skinny' ACW figures and some 'bulky' Mongol figures and there you go. At that scale there's no need to modify the Mongols at all. Plus you can field real hordes of 'em :) |
