Eureka's equipment is less ideal for pulp era. I know, I know, this is pulp so don't worry about it, but if I am going to put Stalin's monkey soldiers on teh table, they will have Pulp era weapons |

Would there be enough interest in these guys for a Eureka 150 club? |

Have any of you ever read "Weirdo" magazine, edited by the famous underground cartoonist Robert Crumb? (I used to read stuff like this when I was younger. I didn't necessarily take it seriously.) A lot of weird stuff showed up in "Weirdo" (appropriately enough!) One issue featured a sample of the "scientific" writings and illustrations of a European author, who was especially interested with inter-species relations between man and apes (including creatures like yeti or sasquatch). I only remember this article vaguely, so I can't tell you too much. But this guy was certain that some humans, particularly the Russians, had "known" such creatures and created offspring. Therefore, there are pure and not-so-pure humans running around in this world of ours. It was pretty outlandish stuff, to say the least. Again, please don't think I take this stuff too seriously. But when I saw this thread, I couldn't help but remember this crazy stuff I'd read back in the 80s. |

My question was more about figure ideas and less about the issue behind it. It becomes a conversion issue, then I probably would sit on the sidelines, my conversion skills cannot match the sculpting skills of the scuptors at large. |
Cacique Caribe | 28 Jul 2006 11:39 a.m. PST |
Jlundberg, Don't give up on the idea of the conversions: 1) Do you already have suitable Russian troops for that period? If they are slightly larger than the other troops, the better. 2) How many were you thinking of having? CC Shoot me an email: daniel DOT Martinez1 AT sbcglobal Dot net |

We will be doing these miniatures. Right now we are working on Rules for AE and we are thinking of having a Russian list included in the first book. ;) Cheers, Robert |
Cacique Caribe | 28 Jul 2006 3:59 p.m. PST |
Robert, Are your figures metal or plastic? Also, what is "AE" exactly? link CC |
Darkson Designs | 28 Jul 2006 5:36 p.m. PST |
Cacique Caribe the AE miniatures are metal multi part miniatures. AE is Alternate Events World War II. Part of the AE background for the Russian Faction covers the creation of the Apemen Troops. Very cool stuff. Background written by C.L.Werner. For further info on the AE world you can check out the Forum at darksondesigns.proboards21.com Cheers, Robert |

As they probably wouldn't see action before the late 1940's, I'd still use Eureka's boiler suits. In fact I'd use them together with Eureka's NBC-suit 80's soviets. Also depends on what you use them with. If you have highly detailed russian human figures, you could use another brand of more cartoonish russians and paint them with odd skincolour. i.e. Blacktree humans with Chiltern monkeymen. |

Of course, Stalin wasn't the first to think about this . . . "In fact, the apes live with us, and have for many ages. We call them the first men--we speak their language quite as much as we do our own; only in the rituals of the temple do we make any attempt to retain our mother tongue. In time it will be forgotten, and we will speak only the language of the apes; in time we will no longer banish those of our people who mate with apes, and so in time we shall descend to the very beasts from which ages ago our progenitors may have sprung." BlackWidowPilot | 26 Jan 2009 9:45 a.m. PST |
CC, given the differences in physical strength, IMHO the appropriate weapon for these ape soldiers would be some sort of sadaptation of the 14.5mm PTRS or PTRD anti-tank rifle with a shortened barrel

Check out these hybrids: link link Personally, you create a more aggressive and resourceful hybrid, although smaller-framed, if it was human-chimp and not human-gorilla. Chimps are the most aggressive of the great apes. They love to hunt monkeys and have even been known to eat enemy chimps. The aggressive tendencies have now sparked some chimp groups to create weapons, such as spears, to further accomplish their goals: link Gorillas and Orangutans haven't developed hunting weapons because they don't have that aggressive drive, even though they live in similar environments, have monkeys and other vulnerable creatures around and are under similar habitat pressures.
