Check out these Ape conversions I am working on:

link

The photo folder includes sculpted "face plates" attached to Warzone figures (I still need to add hair to the rest of the heads), and a full bare head, a full helmeted head and a few "face plates" I have sculpted to experiment.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks.

CC
PS. Don't worry, I will add arms to the figures.

Sumo Boy09 Jan 2007 10:22 p.m. PST

Damn dirty apes! (Sweet!)

cloudcaptain09 Jan 2007 10:25 p.m. PST

Very keen indeed.

Napoleon III10 Jan 2007 4:22 a.m. PST

CC, those look great!! Please don't take this the wrong way, but I had no idea you were so talented!! Great sculpting jobs. I am not at all familiar with the "Warzone" figures, but I think these are going to look outstanding when you are done. Any chance of selling casts of your new heads, such that others could also make such cool Ape warriors by adding them to the Warzone (or maybe to other?) miniatures themselves??? Again simply terrific work…

Great! Now I want to buy another set of the warzone plastics for ape conversions. Damn you CC, damn you!

Andrew May110 Jan 2007 5:34 a.m. PST

The apes look great CC! Can't wait to see them finished and painted!

Goldwyrm10 Jan 2007 7:19 a.m. PST

Looking good! I'll be looking forward to seeing the final product when you're done.

Alxbates10 Jan 2007 7:54 a.m. PST

Those look excellent, CC! Great work!

Cacique Caribe10 Jan 2007 11:25 a.m. PST

"Please don't take this the wrong way, but I had no idea you were so talented!!"

LOL. I had sculpted before, but using much inferior materials, such as Sculpey. However, thanks to you guys, I found out about epoxy putties and these are my first attempts with that material.

Thanks.

Cacique Caribe10 Jan 2007 11:29 a.m. PST

This hut was one of the things I was able to sculpt with Sculpey:

If I had used Greenstuff or other good epoxy putty, I am sure it would have turned out much better.

Excellent job!

CmdrKiley10 Jan 2007 1:33 p.m. PST

Great Stuff!!!!!

CmdrKiley10 Jan 2007 1:35 p.m. PST

BTW, those are some very nice ape heads. you should make a mold of a sprue of them. I think there's a market for them.

Cacique Caribe10 Jan 2007 1:58 p.m. PST

Thanks for the encouragement. As for moulds and metal sprue casting, I know nothing about that process or even where to begin.

I should have all the greens completed this month and, at that point, I will probably be asking where to take it from there.

Thanks again.

Nice to see some pics of your projects. I like the spider-robots too.

Cacique Caribe10 Jan 2007 2:08 p.m. PST

Thanks. Those spider robots cost less than 20 cents to make too. I have even included a photo of the materials I used, in case others wanted to try that easy project.

CC
PS. As soon as I get to a stopping point, I will add an album with photos of LOTR terrain projects too.

Lowtardog10 Jan 2007 3:25 p.m. PST

Fazntatic stuff CC, what people dont realise it CC is a true gent and he has sent me a few of his works which are great

jpattern10 Jan 2007 6:25 p.m. PST

Good job, CC.

Napoleon III11 Jan 2007 12:55 p.m. PST

CC, after all the work involved to sculpt the original heads, it would seem a shame *not* to make a mould of them first (before you paint them/use them yourself). Then you can always decide what (if anything) you will do with the mould of heads later (sell them, make more for yourself, etc.). It would even lead to more sales of "Warzone" products, as customers buy their figures just so they can add your ape-heads to them. It's a win-win!!

Cacique Caribe11 Jan 2007 1:09 p.m. PST

Ok. IF I were to make 6 heads for a sprue, how many should I make with bare heads, how many with helmets? Or should I make enough for a 6-head sprue of each?

Or, should I make enough head sculpts (10) for a full squad of figures?

CC

Cacique Caribe11 Jan 2007 4:10 p.m. PST

Ok, guys.

Here it is . . . my first one with hair added:

CC getting the ohoh failure coming up, perhaps there is a time lag? for when pictures load.

I would if selling them myself mix and match in a 10-12 pack then you guarantee selling them in equal amounts

Cacique Caribe11 Jan 2007 7:08 p.m. PST

Lowtardog,

How about now? Can you open the folder?

Thanks.

CC

Lowtardog12 Jan 2007 6:38 a.m. PST

Yes CC there must be a lag while Yahoo up loads, bit like e-bay sometimes has

Those are absolutely fantastic, very very good. You have me wondering what minis I can chop the heads off now :0)

alien BLOODY HELL surfer12 Jan 2007 6:45 a.m. PST

Great stuff CC – please mold them, I'd buy some heads just to convert other figures.

Cacique Caribe12 Jan 2007 9:36 a.m. PST

I'll make the originals, but I have no idea how to make appropriate molds though (much less cast them in detail).

CC

Lowtardog13 Jan 2007 9:10 a.m. PST

Can anyone help CC out with casting these perhaps? suggestions, prices anything?

Cacique Caribe13 Jan 2007 10:38 a.m. PST

I should have more helmet variants for you guys to look at in the next couple of weeks.

CC

qar qarth15 Jan 2007 10:16 p.m. PST

What figures are those 'Warzones'?

Gluteus Maximus16 Jan 2007 5:00 a.m. PST

CC asked:

"Or, should I make enough head sculpts (10) for a full squad of figures?"

I would like to see 'em in 10s, mainly because I use GASLIGHT for my VSF & have always liked decimal unit organisation for my SF.

alien BLOODY HELL surfer16 Jan 2007 12:39 p.m. PST

CC – you have a PM regards molding :-)

MiniatureReview16 Jan 2007 1:07 p.m. PST

CC Talk to Lon at Brigade Games, he might be interested. Whatever happens keep us posted as to how we might get some of those heads. I have both Warzone and Void plastics that I could use. :)

Cacique Caribe16 Jan 2007 6:02 p.m. PST

Thanks!!!

Let me make a few more this weekend (and post photos, of course) and see how they look. I promise not to paint the figures until moulds are made.

CC

Cacique Caribe19 Jan 2007 7:15 a.m. PST

Wow, that Greenstuff rocks!!! I had to order another batch for all the thinks I may now be able to make.

CC

Cacique Caribe03 Mar 2007 12:43 p.m. PST

Ok. All the materials are in. I will try to complete a handful this week and post photos.

CC

Goldwyrm03 Mar 2007 3:34 p.m. PST

Yes, do post pics. Thanks.

Cacique Caribe05 Mar 2007 7:01 a.m. PST

I am not entirely happy with the helmets I started.

Any suggestions on what the helmetted heads should look like?

I would welcome some feedback and example links on this. Thanks.

I just posted this last question on a new thread:

One of these days, I will finish what I started.

For now, the photos are here:

I am currently working on half a dozen more. I am trying to add more character and individuality to that new set.

I should have photos of them by Monday or so. I've actually made quite a few other things but had no camera with me on this trip.

So, keep checking my photos for the new ones next week:

Here are a few shots of a second-generation head (proper skull and facial structure, but still oversized).

I have already started on a new set of heads that are more proportional.

However, I thought you would like to see what an Ape head on a Warzone figures could look like.

Could these Cadian Shock Troopers provide additional bodies for Ape conversions?

Maybe for a Gorilla (Warzone) vs Chimp (Cadian) battle (a sort of "Battle of the Simians")?
