I had a whole bunch of them based and primed (I wish I had taken photos), but they have somehow disappeared after Harvey flooded our house.

So, even though they are 12mm, these Pendraken "Sand Orcs" are going to become a band of small primitive primates on an alien desert planet, for 15mm Victorians or other SF adventurers. Could even work for 15mm Fantasy.

Check this out … If you add and slightly shape a tiny bit of Green Stuff on the upper lip, you could end up with very easy Ape faces. Their bodies, poses and long arms already scream "Ape" to me. Easiest conversion ever!

What do you think? Crazy conversion idea?

How does PLANET OF THE SAND APES sound to you?

Note – The guy on the far right in this next picture is NOT a Sand Orc. It's a 15mm Orc from some other range:

Who knows, these guys from Highlander Studios might come pay them a visit:

Those Pendraken sand orcs are very nice figures, I think they would work very well in a new setting like your idea of Planet of the Sand Apes. Hope you go with it, be nice to see where you end up.

War Monkey12 Nov 2017 9:19 a.m. PST

Interesting idea, can't wait to see what you come up with.

Cacique Caribe12 Nov 2017 10:41 a.m. PST

Thanks guys! I'll let you know the moment they arrive.

I really like the Monkey Squad !

Cacique Caribe13 Nov 2017 2:51 p.m. PST

Me too! Those are next on my list, after I make some progress with the Sand "Apes".

They'll be travelers from the "Planet of the Apes" we are already familiar with. They are thrown clear across the galaxy to a planet inhabited by … Sand Apes!

Sounds like about to be a rumble in the jungle … sans jungle … evil grin

War Monkey13 Nov 2017 9:12 p.m. PST

I have a set of the "Monkey Boys" there a very nice set, I haven't painted them yet.

Cacique Caribe14 Nov 2017 12:36 a.m. PST

Well, what are you waiting for? Get to it man! :)

I can't wait to see how yours turn out when you paint them up. Please share pics. Thanks.

Dan
PS. Perhaps paint them up as if they are an SG-1 team from POTA. :)

Very nice guys, I'll get on to the "Monkey Boys" just as soon as I can, I thought they would make for a great team for linking up with "Rocket" from "Guardians of the Galaxy" that they had suffered from the same experiments that Rocket had gone through.

P.S. I have the Guardian set from Highlanders as well so I more then likely will paint them up as well.

Cacique Caribe19 Nov 2017 7:29 p.m. PST

War Monkey: "that they had suffered from the same experiments that Rocket had gone through."

Now THAT'S creative thinking!

Dan

War Monkey19 Nov 2017 7:58 p.m. PST

Thanks, I had to figure some way to tie it all together, and somewhere out there someone accidentally showed an armed squirrel in 15mm that I have been waiting to get my hands on! Picture Groot and a Squirrel!

Cacique Caribe22 Nov 2017 6:03 a.m. PST

An armed squirrel? For 15mm?

Wow.

Dan

War Monkey27 Nov 2017 9:16 p.m. PST

Yes it was armed and it in the 15mm range. I think it might from he who shall not be mentioned, which will be a forever and a day by the time he does.

Cacique Caribe28 Nov 2017 9:17 a.m. PST

War Monkey,

On a much, MUCH wetter note, you need to check out this tutorial:

Interesting, I wonder if I can make one doing that cardboard method I do, I will have to check into that.

Cacique Caribe17 Dec 2017 4:43 p.m. PST

Got my Highlander Studio monkey boys. They look awesome. They're going to be fun to paint.

Dan

War Monkey18 Dec 2017 9:18 p.m. PST

All my projects are going to be on hold for a good while, sister's house burned and she will be moving in for the long run so I'm giving up my game room and packing it up for now until we can come up with a better plan.

Cacique Caribe19 Dec 2017 2:59 a.m. PST

Oh geesh, that's terrible. Everyone go out ok?

Dan

War Monkey19 Dec 2017 10:19 a.m. PST

She lived alone and is well even her cats made it out okay, luckily I'm not allergic to cats.

Cacique Caribe22 Dec 2017 6:06 p.m. PST

The Pendraken Sand Orcs have arrived and they look perfect.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to take comparison photos next week, what with all our final repairs still pending or held up by unforeseen events, but I'll get those pictures up as soon as I can.

Dan

War Monkey23 Dec 2017 9:28 p.m. PST

Nice can't wait to see the photos.

Okay so Sis moves in at the end of this coming week, and I have been given the go to convert half of the two car garage into a gaming room. This is good but there is a lot of work need to be done electrical, insulation, drywall and mudding plus adding heat! Oh yeah this is Minnesota yes we need heat! Bonus is it is larger then the room I had!

Cacique Caribe23 Dec 2017 11:51 p.m. PST

Bigger room? Awesome. But get some heat in there. Careful with carbon monoxide too.

Dan

War Monkey24 Dec 2017 6:56 p.m. PST

Going to put in a electric heater, to keep it right above freezing when not in use and a small wood stove for when in use, nice small fire and in about thirty minutes warm and toasty.

But that's down the road away.

War Monkey30 Dec 2017 6:24 p.m. PST

Sis, is all moved in and settling in.

Uparmored29 Jan 2018 3:36 a.m. PST

Damn dirty Sand Apes!!!

Cacique Caribe31 Jan 2018 9:21 p.m. PST

I'm thinking of making an extremely weathered or half-broken statue of their "Lawgiver" but, instead of modeling it on POTA's Caesar I was thinking of styling it on an animal-faced desert Djinn.

Perhaps something seated like in this first manuscript illustration, but with a simian face of some sort. Something that would also fit in well in a Sinbad game.

Wasn't there a baboon (or was it a baboon statue) that played chess in one of the Sinbad movies? Did it look something like this?

Thoughts?

Hmm. Anyone know what cartoon character this is a picture of?

picture

But in a seated position, like the ancient statue of Gudea. Perhaps with a scroll in one hand and holding a mace with the other.

picture

Or like this Hie protector statue at a temple in Tokyo:

Dan
PS. I like this ancient Akkadian/Sumerian statue's simian-like profile too:

Cacique Caribe31 Jan 2018 11:19 p.m. PST

Oops. That last statue, the simian-looking head, is a Syrian statue of the god Hadad. It currently sits in the Louvre.

What do you think? He's about an inch and a half tall, so far.

Dan
PS. Should I make him with a Thulsa Doom headdress, or some sort of desert turban?

I'll be posting more on the progress of the "Lawgiver" statue here:

Cacique Caribe07 Feb 2018 4:12 a.m. PST

Guys

While I continue work on my Lawgiver statue*, I've been giving some thought to the Sand Ape City where his "shrine" will be located

How's this cartoony look for their desert city?

Remember, these are going to be the inhabitants of and "visitors" to that city:

Indeed. That would be awesome!

Inspiring stuff! I've been hoping to find a Space Ape race for my RPG.

Just tossing ideas around. Nothing definite yet, except the figures, which I now have with me, and the Lawgiver statue I started work on.

I really like the idea of a Simian Stargate team ending up on a desert planet though. Would give me the perfect excuse to use my Pendraken "apes" in the same game(s). :)

If you've got any of these done I'd love to see them.
