According to "true believers", all Greys were not created equal …

In other words …

Do you mix "Greys" from different figure manufacturers? If so, what back story do you use for that?

Thanks,

I mix RAFM Iroquois with Redoubt, so that says all you need to know about my justifying differences. grin

You think about these things too much, Dan.

I don't mix but that is because I got about all the grays I needed the first time out.

They do have a caste system. There are leaders, workers and warriors.

khurasanminiatures26 Jul 2013 11:44 a.m. PST

My upcoming Invaders have a caste system, although the castes are different rather than ranked in priority.

The science caste is the type of alien we most see now. They are grey and naked. They are the designers, explorers, and pilots of spacecraft.

The war caste is self explanatory. They are olive and a bit "crustier" looking than the science caste. They wear armour and hard wired weapons and targeting devices. They control the weapons of war, such as the Kallinekt warbots (which form the rank and file of Invader armies) as well as the enormous Maneuver Elements, vehicles walking on four metallic tentacles.

Hmm. I'm definitely interested.

I hope someone in the bunch looks something like this alien pharaoh:

My greys have a flying saucer, but no caste system. I use 15mm greys as 28mm faeries, too.

Sorry, no alien pharaohs.

Well, mine are just bunch of cow molesting freaks, without added ideology..
We don't want to know their caste, we want to put 12 gauge shotgun shells into them :>

When did little green men become little grey men?

Cacique Caribe26 Jul 2013 4:13 p.m. PST

LOL. I think that the ones on Mars may still be green.

"the 1960s also marked a transition in the way people imagined a stereotypical alien. In alien abduction stories they are often small but grey beings and in Arthur C. Clarke's 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) they are unseen. Aside from Yoda in the Star Wars movie saga, little green aliens are seldom seen in science fiction anymore and seem to have migrated to the world of children's media where they can still be found in abundance."

So blame it on "abductees", each one trying to make their tale sound as original and unique as possible!!!

Never used a caste system for greys. Frequently use a military rank system, as the invaders are the only ones you usually get to meet.

I have done invade the mothership/homeworld games where different figure represented greys with different functions. I don't think of is as a caste system, but more like "Hey, Bzzdidgjist! I'm a sanitation worker. I've never held a gun in my life."

I have run scifi games with species differentiated caste systems.

I use a psionically networked Gestalt intelligence for my Greys….

When did little green men become little grey men?

Even the best of us grey with age….

Where's georgio tsoukolos when you need him? He knows all this stuff :)

Not the ones I met. Not in the true sense of the same beings having different statuses like humans do. The beings themselves are different. The basic grey to the preying mantis form and then superior to them all, the reptilian.

It's difficult to explain in human terms but the best analogy is human racism.

I wonder what level of the caste system these fellas belong to:

I am convinced the Kelly KY, aliens were just a bunch of alien teens who got into papa-gray's Saurian Brandy, took the saucer without permission and ran into trouble with the locals.

You read about it in the papers all the time. If the Hopkinsville PD ever caught up with them, it would have been an FUI charge for at least one of them and maybe trespassing too. The cost of the collect call to the parents would have been astronomical. They would have been grounded for sure.

Hi Dan, there's an alien pharoah over at Ral Partha Europe – it's the old Vor figure, a Pharon Noble but it's in 28mm so not sure if it's of any use to you. A giant alien pharoah, perhaps? I have the figure and it's a fine sculpt though on the large size – about 33mm from memory.

TwinMirror12 Sep 2013 11:07 a.m. PST

And speaking of alien caste systems, I often use them too – though it's nice to mix them up a bit. Slaves rise up and replace their former masters, and a new social order ensues…this kind of thing is great in rpgs, but I suppose could make a good campaign setting for a wargame, too.
