* If so, how did it go?

* What was the scenario? A simple visitation? A cattle mutilation mission gone wrong? Aliens attempt to abduct the farmer's daughters? UFO crashes while in the middle of making a crop circle? Did it involve hungry alien pets? Something else?

* What figures did you use? How many for each side?

* What rules?

* What sort of terrain and scenic pieces?

* Have you posted photos anywhere?

Thanks.

"You killed a pine! You Martian son-of-a-b***h, you killed a pine!"

At last a chance to use that line a tabletop game.

Not vs farmers But Grey With Probe often shows up in our Combat Zone games.

Kampfgruppe Cottrell29 Dec 2009 9:45 a.m. PST

Played a Weird WWII game where a UFO crashed in the middle of the Bulge and the Nazis and Americans where Hell bent to kill each other and any alien that might have got in the way.

A total Zone Troopers rip off,

In a similar vein I played peasants vs ogres who were trying to steal their pigs. The pigs moved around randomly and if they got scared they ran(double movement)

Ogres took more damage if they were carrying pigs,

Ogres would knock out or stun on a hit, and peasants had to irritate the ogres enough making them flee(they each had 5 Wounds to lose before they "fled")

I used the ogres from a board game, heroquest like they were brown plastic with a club.

I am sure something like that could be used with greys.

Accounts of the incident vary greatly among the locals but a Flying Saucer full of Grey aliens once crashed into Buffalo Billiards, the local pool hall in the Town of Beaverlick, Wyoming. A three way scuffle broke out between the locals and a time traveling repo team sent to recover a Patsy Cline 8-track tape stolen by the little mono chromatic deviants. After a good deal of shooting and deep probing of the opposition, the Greys' Flying Canoe was impounded and they apprehended, when a posse of circus performers joined the fray. Interstellar Cattle rustling and petty trans-dimensional theft are not tolerated in this Wyoming Town.

The closest I've got was "Nazis and Aliens" with my Ant Marines ( Beaky Space Marines with thorax and ant head added ) seizing a tanker truck full of 'T-Stoff' from some hapless SS Supply clerks in the woods near a secret V-weapon site.

* What was the scenario?
In the last days of WW2, a truckload of T-Stoff ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-Stoff ) was being trucked through the woods to a secret launch complex. Somehow the aliens had discovered how tasty this stuff was, and a small scout ship was dispatched to seize the load.

* What figures did you use?
six GW/plastic party ants combo for Aliens, a dozen unknown 28mm Germans ( bought painted from a game club member when he moved )

* What rules?
NUTS! with modifications

* What sort of terrain and scenic pieces?
Snow cloth, scattered felt woods patches topped with lots of pine trees to make a twisty road and trails

A cardstock UFO
A Cardstock Opel Blitz tanker truck

* Have you posted photos anywhere?
The UFO and aliens were posted to a folder on the TwoHourWargames yahoogroup.

Top Gun Ace29 Dec 2009 11:34 a.m. PST

Obviously, the "Got Milk" advertisements on TV and the radio are way too effective, causing the cattle kidnappings and mutilations.

My guess is they don't know the milk is bottled, or comes in cardboard cartons at the grocery and convenience stores.

I blame the marketing directors for this gross oversight, since the poor aliens don't know how to get the milk out of the cows, having never seen such a creature before.

Obviously, given their small stature, and frail bodies, they are looking to bulk up, and strengthen their bones by drinking milk.

A few years back I played in a UFOs vs Mayberry scenario at Little Wars in Chicago. Basically it was characters from The Andy Griffith show backed up by a unit of National Guards vs. two groups of aliens who landed in a big UFO to steal Aunt Bea's pie recipes. Everyone got into character, and the guy playing Barney Fife was hysterical, and made some opportune botched rolls to boot.

A good time was had by all. I think I played a government agent and my son played Opie. The Aliens lost, but only just.

Star Commander29 Dec 2009 11:48 a.m. PST

I ran 'The Invasion of Potter's Grove' at Cold Wars a few years back. The aliens were seeking DNA samples from human and farm animals. Hilarity ensued.

Does the Daleks v UNIT count?

The Daleks were this year's Christmas present, I've already got WWII British infantry who will double as unit.

Going to use Future War Commander as the base rules with a few random effects generated by the Doctor if he arrives!! (50:50 chance)

Still got to find the TARDIS though:(

Top Gun Ace29 Dec 2009 12:01 p.m. PST

Of course, alien visitations will get far more numerous once they learn about Pepsi, Coca-cola, pepperoni pizza, and beer…..

hey, chaps! Reaper is releasing a set of 4 GREY Aliens this week…(if you don't have enough from all the other sources) and their 'Alien Oppressor' figure is an 'almost-Mars Atackkk-aaackkk-accckkks' enough…

Pegasus has an Area 51 small saucer that has gear up/gear down option…(or you can hot-glue two plastic disposable cereal bowls together (as I've done on one occassion)…The 'greys' from Horrorclix have probes of various sizes and Megaminis just released a whole bunch of critters from pigs to beavers to porcupines to groundhogs etc!!!

now just get one of those aliens to fire off his death ray too close to an outhouse and blow themselves back into outer space! (cows do make a lot of METHANE and if it gets 'backed up' and someone lights a match!?)…
(saw that happen on 'All creatures great and small when vet 'vented' a bloating cow…and farmer happened to light up a cigar! There was an explosion…cow was unharmed…but doctor and farmer got kinda 'scorched' like a daffy duck cartoon!

Now…moonshine 'bombs' against saucers! THAT would be 'right interestin' pard!
SLISH!

Gungnir,

That Hillbilly game by Matakishi sounds perfect!

I love the figures he collected for it. Very, very nice indeed.

Pahoota – I hadn't seen that page of Matakashi's: I have been looking for livestock, so it has helped

Gungnir – great UFO – so simple that I am ashamed I didn't think of that myself. I might have to give it a go myself.

we have some farmers and townfolk in our Alien Invasion range -

Lone Eagle29 Dec 2009 4:35 p.m. PST

At a local con we play a game called Rayguns and Rednecks the incident at Spanky Bottom. There are 3 teams of aliens which consist of 5 aliens with rayguns and teleporters and 1 robot. The aliens teleport into the surrounding countryside and town and try to abduct the humans. The GM has a stack of cards that tell you what happens with the humans. They can go "duh" which means they fall over at your feet and you can teleport them back to the ship, "fight/ really fight" where they will put up a struggle, or they go "ga-ga" which is where the fun stuff happens. With the ga-ga cards in play you can wind up mutilating the closest farm animal (which has lead to some interesting modeling by the diehard fans), loose your teleporter to a kleptomaniac etc..

Needless to say the game is one of the loudest and most fun games to watch or play in at the con.

Cacique Caribe29 Dec 2009 4:45 p.m. PST

Ooops, I should have given Pahoota credit and thanks for that Matakishi link. Thanks Pahoota!

Top Gun Ace29 Dec 2009 4:47 p.m. PST

Of course, I seem to recall some mention of Martians just coming here for the women…..

28mmMan29 Dec 2009 5:48 p.m. PST

It would have to be a silly or tongue in cheek game. Any serious consideration would just be too goofy…high tech, energy weapons, advanced aliens vs. lo tech, shot guns, mundane humans (hee haw, get a rope!)

Really?

It would be like dog catchers vs. dogs…cats vs. mice…tanks vs. infantry.

But in a Men in Black direction it could be fun. A crashed ship with the aliens trying to get to the MiB to save them, trying to get to the pick up point, aliens drunk on Earth air, etc.. Any of these would be a fun afternoon.

Cacique Caribe29 Dec 2009 5:50 p.m. PST

LOL.

Well, one way to even the odds would be to have the aliens behave like the ones in the film "Signs", fighting hand to hand.

Or having to actually touch the humans, in order to make them fall under their control.

Not vs Farmers, but I did a 'flashback' scenario in a 'UFO: Enemy unknown" (Greatest PC game ever) campaign. Sunjester was expecting Aliens, but roleplayed the Germans to the hilt, and even got into a firefight with the British commandoes, before bumping into the Aliens- Oh yes, 6 June 1944 was certainly going to be a day those Germans remembered, even if nothing else happened…

Pyrate Captain30 Dec 2009 11:06 a.m. PST

I did Hopkinsville about two years ago. Testors UFO, Copplestone Grays, 1936 truck from EBay, Blue Moon hill folk, a 1955 police car, again EBay. WWII soldiers and a jeep. The cops were old Grenadier.

Log cabin, Life-like. Trees, hills, moonshine (for the players). Alien objective was to abduct the women. Nothing special, based on the actual event, sans barn owls and the Mary-Jane they must really have been smoking.

GrantS30 Dec 2009 5:10 p.m. PST

No….But it sounds interesting…

I might hafta try it…Although I might have to go Indiana Jonesish route (The KOTC *Throws up* route) as I got alot of 30's era minis.

How do you know they weren't after the Moonshine? Seems to me that would be their objective. Women would get on their nerves, Moonshine's a relaxant and saucer fuel to boot :P

Anyone ever seen these comic books (er, graphic novels)?

"Plot Summary
The town's destroyed and most folks are either dead or carried off into the night by them green-skinned sonsabitches. Mankind's only hope… a handful of rednecks holed up in a tiny farmhouse. Outnumbered, out-gunned, out-brained. But as long as a fella's too stupid to know he's beat, then there's a chance. And our heroes are pretty stupid."

Hi CC,

No. I painted up a few Ral Partha Sand Dwellwers (item number 2944) that have a suitable posture and of course ears, but decided that the already painted grays were better suited to the game as they were more recognizable as aliens, did not look at all like barn owls, and served the purpose as I already had about twenty on hand.

The Sand Dwellers looked OK, but aliens are aliens I guess.

Played a demo when it first came out, but not managed a minis version, though most horror or SF rules should handle it and loads of adaptations have happened.

Cacique Caribe05 Jan 2010 10:20 p.m. PST

Chironex,

That game sounds so cool!

"Redneck Rampage
The plot revolves around two brothers, Leonard and Bubba, fighting through the fictional town of Hickston, USA (though the game is supposedly set in Arkansas, the highway signs in the first level of the first episode refer to Interstate 20 which is in northern Louisiana), to rescue their prized pig Bessie and thwart an alien invasion."

Must be a blast to do as a minis game.

If ever done as a game, this other theme should be done with the same level of craziness too:

Grabula06 Jan 2010 6:31 a.m. PST

Some freinds of mine played a game at a convention called "Lips and @#&holes". The object of the game was that there were several teams of aliens collecting the delicate bits of farm animals for their nefarious purposes. You could focus on collecting your bits, or fighting the other teams and so on. They said it was a riot to play.

Cacique Caribe06 Jan 2010 12:30 p.m. PST

LOL. Was it a minis game, or something else?

Farstar06 Jan 2010 4:35 p.m. PST

Ok. I want to throw some Chupacabras into the mix:

TMP link

So, I went ahead and ordered two sets of these from Magister Militum:

link
picture

According to this site, they are "14mm tall, and 24mm nose to tail":

link

I may just enlarge the eyes a bit, and add a couple of horns on the back of their heads. Either way, it gives me a total of 10 Chupacabras to terrorize a few 15mm farmers and government men.

What do you think? If I give it the right paintjob, could they pass for Chupacabras or some kind of alien pet run amok?
