Looking for actual examples of miniature terrain, mainly concrete tunnels and rooms, SCRATCH-BUILT by you guys.

Hopefully, it will look something like these real ones:

I'm trying to get specific ideas on . . .

1) What type of underground complex was it?
2) What was the overall size of complex?
3) Size of tunnels (including height) in relation to size of figures (15mm, 28mm, other)?
4) Was it all on a single level? If not, how did you manage action in multiple levels? Did you have a different floor represented on a different gaming table?
5) What materials were used for walls, doors and other fittings?
6) Did you make the doors, etc., or buy them commercially?
7) What material was used for the floor surface?
8) Were the walls permanently fixed to the floor surface, or are they stand-alone and removable?
9) Did you strive to fill the rooms with furniture, or did you prefer a more open gaming area in each site?
10) How did you duplicate the concrete texture and color?
11) In hindsight, would you do anything differently?
12) Is there anything else I may have forgotten to ask?

And, MOST importantly . . .

Links to your WIP or finished complex photos are immensely appreciated.

Thanks!!!

Dan
PS. I've asked some of those questions before but, as soon as I am physically able to do so, I plan to get busy on the project. In the meantime, I will use this time to get suggestions, ideas and materials for what I will need.

I doubt many of you have the money, time or space to build anything like this . . .

. . . but, IF you have built something like that, and you somehow made it into a playable surface, PLEASE share!!!

Thanks again.

I base all my underground lairs off of Evil Genius!

What about basing your underground complex on a subway. You could have the main track tube with access tunnels to equipment and fire rooms and a stair case and elevator to the street level…

Dropzone,

I have seen screens like those before:

My problem is how have you turned that into an actual gaming table.

Thanks.

Stepman3, that is also a great idea!

Now, the hard part (and where I need help with) is duplicating that for gaming.

Well I'm currently building mine loosely based around Jabba's palace. It's not finished yet as I'm only half way through the first base coat before I can add detailing, but it's coming along nicely. If you want pictures then there's some up on my blog, though they're only WIP pictures:

Dijit80,

WIP photos are perfect! Thanks.

Is that cardboard or cork tiles, for the walls.

Dan

Cork tiles for the walls, expanded polystrene for the floors as we can't get extruded polystrene here in Denmark. Then I've used masking tape to hide edges and hold it together while the glue dries. I hope to get more done on it over the weekend so I can show more of it.

Look forward to seeing the next phase of your work.

This is the simple modern concrete look I'm after. Cork walls might just have the right texture for it:

I wonder what Freud would say about this obsession with tunnels?

Cacique Caribe13 Feb 2010 9:06 p.m. PST

LOL.

Wow. Hadn't thought about a connection before!

me thinks Freud was a little too addicted to cocaine to be taken seriously all the time
