I am thinking of using Heresy Ghouls for these guys: picture TMP link TMP link TMP link TMP link Has anyone used their ghouls yet for that? I am thinking of spreading thin layers of green stuff on their upper arms and upper chest and back, and then tracing spirals and concentric circles as if carved into the skin, much like Hellboy in the movie. What do you think? CC |

"The hadals are a gruesome lot. They can talk, although not in a language ever heard before, and appeared to once be a great nation predating modern man by thousands of years. The mystery of why they reverted to a near savage state is never explained and is a weakness of the book. However, the savage hadals are probably much more fun, at least from a reader's standpoint. These wacky guys enjoy crucifixions, ritual mutilation, Danta-esqe torture, and eating humans. Put it this way, if you are ever faced with killing yourself or becoming a captive, go with the suicide. Some really gruesome descriptions abound." link Sparse descriptions here: link link sfsite.com/11b/desc69.htm link CC |

So the movie and the book have not much in common? I did enjoy the movie seeing that I am a bit of a claustrophobic the scene when the girls squeeze and I do mean squeeze into small crevasses I was freaked out! And I was in a big open movie theater. I'll have to try the book |

The claustrophobic bit I thought was the scariest too – and I'm not that claustrophobic myself
I think the Chouls would work very well! I nees to paint mine soon – very good minis! |

What do you think about using a very, very thin layer of epoxy putty to create a surface for the skin mutilation "artwork"? CC |

"H. hadalis -- this variety, at any rate -- looked faintly apelike, but with very little body hair. They had wide negroid noses and full lips, somewhat like Australian aborigines, but were bleached albino by the perpetual night. There were a few slight beards, little more than wispy goatees. Most looked no older than thirty. Many were children. The bodies were scarred in ways that had nothing to do with sports or surgery: no appendectomy scars in this group, no neat smile lines around the knees or shoulders. These had come from camp accidents or hunts or war. Broken bones had healed crookedly. Fingers had been lopped off. The women's breasts hung slack, thinned and stretched and unbeautiful, basic tools like their sharpened fingernails and teeth or their wide flattened feet or their splayed big toes for climbing. Maybe it's coz I've never really played D&D or dungeon-related stuff in my 30 years of RPGs/minis, but when I read the book I could just imagine it being a really fertile gamespace. Fatal, though. I don't see anyone getting out alive – in the book any of the 'PC' survivals reeked of D.E.M. by Long. |

"when I read the book I could just imagine it being a really fertile gamespace" I agree wholeheartedly! Lots of potential. CC |

"What do you think about using a very, very thin layer of epoxy putty to create a surface for the skin mutilation "artwork"?" Bad idea if hellboy grooves are what you are going for. If you want the kind of body art where the skin bubbles up, then I'd go for epoxy. If I were going for surface grooves, I'd paint it. Or, better yet, use micron pens to draw it onto their skin. If you want it more faint, I'd draw it and then do a veil of the skin color over it. |
