A recent issue of Wargames Illustrated came with a free sprue of Warlord Games' new range of 12mm plastic American Civil War figures. I couldn't resist painting them up as an experiment, as I had never before tried working with miniatures this small.

Where have you been? Under a rock?

They are generally listed at 13.5mm foot to eye or about 15mm.

Great work.

Nice painting – I believe arteis is in New Zealand, so the magazine probably took a while to get there…

Love the painting – but too small for my 15mm forces

Beautiful paint job but another bizarre offering from Warlord.

The painter did an amazing job painting them. They're not for me, but the ease of painting them on the sprue is appealing.

Nice work. Years ago, I would have jumped at it.

Jim;
Roly isn't under a rock…he's in bloody Kiwi-Land.

Coriolis effect on the news and all. Probably knows what will happen next week before we do.

And his painting is magnificent.

Ha ha, the 'rock' I was hiding under was spending the last two months painting a 70+ figure unit of 28mm 18th century Irish in foreign service ;-)

This sprue had been sitting quietly on my desk, tempting me all that time! Last week I finally got to start it.

Anyway, it was fun to paint and photograph, even if it is a scale I don't think I will do as a full project. And thanks for the correction on figure height – I will amend the blog posting.

Must have been a big rock as these figures have been all over the news for a couple of months. I have a few of them in my painters block queue while I deal with some health issues.

They'll be a great experiment.

Trajanus02 Mar 2021 10:29 a.m. PST

Have to say its a clever idea producing the figures so that they can be painted on the sprue!

I'll be the first to admit I probably would not of thought of doing it that way though!

Think they look great as Confederate but do not work for me as Eastern Theatre Union.

Trajanus03 Mar 2021 10:57 a.m. PST

Yeah that's annoying. Although they are doing Zouaves and Iron Brigade, so maybe at some point all Cap wearing figures might appear.

General Kirchner03 Mar 2021 1:24 p.m. PST

i just started painting my sprue.

thanks for inspiring/intimidating me, they look great!

Arteios, I like your small flags….them seem to help with the impression of "scale"

flashman223 Mar 2021 10:01 a.m. PST

Have you seen the prices they are asking for the resin additions? You can buy Kallista metals for half what Warlord is asking for resin.

Baranovich23 Mar 2021 9:21 p.m. PST

They look great!
