I recall them as being a bit taller than humans, maybe seven feet tall?

Purely an academic question. grin

Eli Arndt08 Nov 2013 10:29 p.m. PST

Taller if I recall but not by too much.

Cacique Caribe08 Nov 2013 11:24 p.m. PST

Seems like one of the actors that dressed like Chigs was 6 ft, 7 inches tall:

With suit and helmet, I imagine he must have towered over the other puny humans.

PS. Did they ever make official action figures for the Chigs and the main characters? If so, I'd be curious to see how they compared to each other.

Grimmnar08 Nov 2013 11:37 p.m. PST

Academic? Un huh. Your nose is growing.

With the helm i recall they were 6 to 12 inches taller than a human. But it depended on the height of said human.

I concur with the consensus thus far; our Chiggy friends were a good foot taller than the gyrenes sent to fight them.

Boy howdy, I do loves me some academic conversations…evil grin

Seven feet sounds like a nice, round number to me.

PraetorianHistorian09 Nov 2013 5:59 a.m. PST

Khurasan…don't do this to me. You have no clue how much I loved that series as a kid. I cried for days when my parents told me it was canceled.

In fact, I think I need to make my wife watch the DVDs with me again…

khurasanminiatures09 Nov 2013 6:37 a.m. PST

How cruel of them -- it wasn't canceled, and is now in its 18th season! grin

Irish Marine09 Nov 2013 7:02 a.m. PST

I really, really, really hope you will make them.

khurasanminiatures09 Nov 2013 7:43 a.m. PST

Make what? grin

Redroom09 Nov 2013 8:44 a.m. PST

CC – I don't think there was anything official model or action figure-wise. There were a few ships in various scales offered by various manufacturers and ebay'ers.

When Hawkes fought one in hand-to-hand in the show, I think the top of his head went to the chin of the alien.

TheRatGod09 Nov 2013 11:43 a.m. PST

chigs? pfftt wheres the wild cards to fight them?!?!

Lion in the Stars09 Nov 2013 12:04 p.m. PST

@Rat God: Rebel Minis 'Earth Force Marines' look a whole lot like the Wild Cards in helmets, just paint a green flight suit and helmet and dark gray/black armor. Putting names across the helmet might be a bit tricky, though.

Hey, Khurasan, think we could get a 'star-crane' version of the Cormorant? (Maybe call it a lower-tech version for the Nova Respublik?) Basically the nose of the cormorant, a long spine section to hold a larger cargo box, and engines at the end of the spine and a couple more at the ends of wings for atmospheric operations? wink

Redroom: "When Hawkes fought one in hand-to-hand in the show, I think the top of his head went to the chin of the alien."

Thanks for the tip, Redroom!

Found it. Episode "Who Monitors The Birds", about 45 seconds into the clip:

That scene is around 34:50 into the episode:

Isn't that what this is? Also from Rebel minis, like those marines.

Lion, you are absolutely right about the helmets on Rebel's Marines.

As I recall, there are only two episodes with troops in helmets on the ground:

TheRatGod09 Nov 2013 2:29 p.m. PST

no helmet ones would be better as only two eps have them in full helmets on the ground.

Logain09 Nov 2013 5:23 p.m. PST

Rebel makes the same figures without the vac helmets. Thanks khurasan, this has been a question that has been asked here for over five years, without getting an answer. Watching SAAB re-runs at the same time as rebels marines coming out is what made me make the switch from 28s to 15s back in 2008. Glad your asking questions.

TheRatGod09 Nov 2013 5:48 p.m. PST

No, they dont. lol

Mako1109 Nov 2013 5:56 p.m. PST

Actually, you are both partially correct.

They have one guy in the pack of 21, without his helmet on, IIRC.

Lion in the Stars09 Nov 2013 6:52 p.m. PST

As far as helmetless heads go, Peter Pig will take care of that.

And Khurasan, the version I have in mind is a bit longer. Cargo pod about twice the length of that Rebel Mini's version.

More like this one:

Cacique Caribe09 Nov 2013 7:21 p.m. PST

About the Chigs … certainly WITH helmets!!!

I have both, same sculpts with and without vac helmets. Pretty darn close to the helmets they wear in the series.

Wolfprophet10 Nov 2013 10:07 a.m. PST

They do not. The helmeted packs all have helmets, no bare heads.

As far as helmetless heads go, Peter Pig will take care of that.

GZG heads look alright too, but they're a little… "bigger" if you scrutinize them up close, but from arms length, they look just fine.

TheRatGod10 Nov 2013 10:26 a.m. PST

there is one in the earth force marines pack without a helmet, it is even on thier site…..lol i dont see why its even being discussed. plus K makes awesome nots, some real looking wildcards that look like those on the show would be amazing.

Lion in the Stars10 Nov 2013 10:46 a.m. PST

I agree that I'd love to see K release some 'character head' sprues, kinda like what Peter Pig does.

khurasanminiatures10 Nov 2013 11:05 a.m. PST

TV/movie soldiers often fight without helmets because otherwise you can't tell who's who. grin That's a big reason why the film Starship Troopers ditched the heavy armour of the book.

Of course, I'm not making anything for SAAB, but if I did (speaking purely academically of course) I would certainly make USMC as well, with their helmets on and probably without too.

TheRatGod10 Nov 2013 11:14 a.m. PST

ah K thats awesome

Wolfprophet10 Nov 2013 2:01 p.m. PST

there is one in the earth force marines pack without a helmet, it is even on thier site

I was referring to these ones….

link

In most of the series, the ground fighting took place on planets that didn't require the enclosed helmets. So, while the enclosed helmets are cool and all, we saw them in the open fritz helms more often than in the enclosed helmets….

That's a big reason why the film Starship Troopers ditched the heavy armour of the book.

That and Michael Bay wasn't directing… I mean c'mon! Suits that jump around tossing tons of ordnance, firing off nukes left and right and torching the crap out of everything with what seems to be a multi-setting plasma weapon while bugs with freak' LAZERBEAMS strapped to their bellies are trying to kill them? That reeks of something perfect for Michael Bay to deliver faithfully even if they *still* gut the core value of the book, the messages of Social Responsibility and Morality.

TheRatGod10 Nov 2013 2:24 p.m. PST

And we were talking about the other ones….

Cacique Caribe10 Nov 2013 5:01 p.m. PST

I know. :(

Dan

Mako1110 Nov 2013 6:35 p.m. PST

Sorry, Wolfie, but you are wrong.

They come 21 to a pack, and one sergeant is helmetless, as shown in the photo below.

zonk7611 Nov 2013 7:30 a.m. PST

I'm really thinking I should repaint my Earth Force marines at this point…

Heinz Good Aryan12 Nov 2013 3:15 p.m. PST

would love to see the chiggs you're not going to make but even better please 'don't make' the us marine corp!!! :-) in the same poses as your isrealis please, i don't really like the rebeel guys because they all seem to have the same one or two leg poses and have their guns held out around their bellys…..

Lion in the Stars12 Nov 2013 5:39 p.m. PST

Excellent point, Heinz.

I'd love to see some "Aviation Commandos" in action poses, not just 'from the hip'.

As in, I'd pick up a platoon or so.

khurasanminiatures13 Nov 2013 6:55 a.m. PST

Well, whenever I make infantry sets, there's a typical range of poses, like for instance the Israelis recently previewed on the modern and Cold War forums:

picture

picture

Heinz Good Aryan13 Nov 2013 8:17 a.m. PST

that's the poses i mean!!!

Lion in the Stars13 Nov 2013 9:55 a.m. PST

Definitely!

Much better than the limited number of poses in the Rebel Minis range.

Cacique Caribe14 Dec 2013 6:45 a.m. PST

Guys,

Don't forget that the Chigs always carried a khopesh-like bladed weapon.

I'd like to know as well.

Perhaps they are conducting a stealth invasion.
