Because there's a chance he might have got lost in all the zardoz and fabio, he gets his own thread! Yes it's the armless dolly for the dreaded Acarine invaders, because even my NF ranges have to have aliens

If that's just a doll how big are the Acarine themselves? (I see that, like human kids, Acarine young like to pull limbs and heads off their dolls.) |

Yep, we will soon have Chigs! |

Very nice sculping. The helmet/head is a bit too large, in my humble opinion (being about 22% of the total height of the figure – 24mm/110mm on my monitor screen), but maybe once the arms are on, it won't look as out of proportion to the rest of the body. |

One possible source of inspiration had VERY large helmets, kinda like those guys wearing Egyptian-deity helmets. I'm in for many of them, K. A good platoon's worth, minimum! |

when you do one without a helmet, it needs to have a bugs and a spiders head. The head they used in the show was such a let down and so so lame when they finely took a helm off. It would also give you the change need in the design idea. |
marcus arilius | 23 Nov 2013 9:27 a.m. PST |
helmet size looks alright to me. |

It would also give you the change need in the design idea. Well, first of all I have no idea what show you are referring to. But I think one of the points was to start the aliens out as horrific and possibly arachnoid (hence the nickname) because of the appearance of the armour, but to later show them as much more like humans. (There were hints at a common ancestor although I was never sure how that could work considering methane respiration.) Then again, I was extremely disappointed to find out that the space jockey was just a big blue guy! What do others think? Should they have very arachnoid heads like predators or more humanoid heads? |

Im on humanoids side. Becouse it looked good to me when they took of helmets .They looked alien but not grotesque. And since They did lived on eart b4 us ;) And I like design all.helmet is proper size to the rest and later when arms wiil come it will looc just cool. |
Zargon | 23 Nov 2013 12:02 p.m. PST |
Bald deep set eyes blunt nose sorta like pre Colombian art types would look strangely cool and guess what the can be painted blue ;-) |

Not that they actually need to be depicted without helmets though

Always amazes me that folks think proportions of alien lifeforms should mirror our own bodies. Looks great to me and the armor looks especially vicious. |

If you're going for 'historically accurate,' then the Arcarine Invaders are a cinch to paint:
Of course you could always make up your own suit colors for variety.

Atropos907 | 23 Nov 2013 1:37 p.m. PST |
Is there a reason you have to choose one head type? (assuming you provide a helmetless option) would a sprue of one head vs two heads be much more costly after the sculpt? And I seem to recall there being some common ancestry from a celestial body, comet or something transporting DNA from one planetoid to the next
through a wormhole we presume
over at least 10's of lightyears
? yea thats probable. I love sci-fi. |

What sorts of heavy weapons should the Acarines have? The basic weapon will be a plasma gun with a little shield attached to it

Lion in the Stars | 24 Nov 2013 7:58 p.m. PST |
Gotta have at least one flamethrower (but please not a GAS flamethrower, thickened fuel FTW), and some kind of heavy weapon. Could be a bigger plasma gun/SAW, could be a missile launcher (haven't watched the not-source materials in so long that I don't remember one way or the other). |
Lion in the Stars | 24 Nov 2013 8:07 p.m. PST |
Are there images of those flamers? Don't recall them. Yes, there's one or two in the raid on a Human colony from that not-inspiration story. Can't remember where it is in the series, but it was the reason for the goody-two-shoes to join the squadron, so I suspect it's early. |

Yes, I believe so Jon, but they show them only for a split second. I'll dig out my not-inspirational series boxed set and see if I can get a decent screen capture to post here for you. I'll also check out some of the not-inspirational series fan sites. Sometimes they compile good prop photos. |

Jon, It took a bit of doing, but I found a photo of the actual "Acarine" flame thrower prop used in the series in question-
I also found a photo of one of the "Acarine" pistols-
I also found some decent photos of the body armor at this link Main site url HERE |

Firs tepisode or rather pilot was the one with flamer:)But after that I don't recall use of it.And as for other heavy weapons I think they used only their basic rifle as such I thin it had some grenade lucher or smoething in it. |

Diz Aster, great digging! I wonder though if gamers will want proper heavy weapons. You mentioned a LAAW for instance

It's pretty boring though, a shipping crate with a turret. |

I would. Some kind of sustained-fire weapon (SAW or LMG equivalent) and/or a man-portable AT weapon. It's possible that the SAW/LMG is capable of anti-armor, by adjusting the rate of fire or something similar. But I'd still like to see a MANPADS system, even though I don't remember one from the not-inspirational series. Or maybe a multirole missile system that can operate like a precision mortar, bunker-buster, anti-tank missile, or even an anti-aircraft weapon. |
khurasanminiatures | 25 Nov 2013 11:31 a.m. PST |
I'm not sure that weapons exactly like that would really work for them, but the trick would be making weapons that fill the same role but fit better with the Accarine appearance. Will see what we can come up with. |
