Now that Rebel Minis has put these out . . .

TMP link
TMP link

I plan to use them as Marines from "Space: Above And Beyond" (S:AAB):

link

. . . my question would be:

What "tall" 15mm figures to use for "Chigs"???

Chig images here: TMP link

Suggestions?

Thanks.

The GZG kra'Vak line may work for that. While they bear a resemblance to Predator suits they are not that far off- a little work with a handfile around the helmet area is all thats really needed (or they can be used as is)

Only Warlock10 Mar 2009 8:13 a.m. PST

Those Rebel minis are Awesome! I needs me a few Grav tanks and a couple platoons of Infantry!

JRacel10 Mar 2009 8:53 a.m. PST

I personally think the Kra'Vac are too short. For armored Chigs I will likely use my Laserburn Crusdaers. They are tall witth a close enough feel for Chigs eventhough they lack the curved lines the Chigs had.

I'll second the Laserburn Crusaders. Nothing wrong with them that a little attention with a round file won't fix.

"I personally think the Kra'Vac are too short."

I don't know how tall are the Kra'Vak for 15mm humans, but Chigs would have to look as though they were 7 or 7.5 tall to top of helmet, whatever that equates to in mms.

How do the GZG Phalons look

Black Autumn Productions11 Mar 2009 1:37 a.m. PST

NOT "Chiggy", more like mushroom-heads.

Lion in the Stars11 Mar 2009 3:10 p.m. PST

Oh, shoot… There goes my gaming budget…

Black Autumn Productions11 Mar 2009 3:17 p.m. PST

CC & Lion Star. Did the Chigs have swords too?
I think that they did…
What do you good fellows say about it?
CHIGS!!!
grin

Redroom11 Mar 2009 3:43 p.m. PST

Chigs had machete-type looking swords they used to dismember human corpses; a hacking/chopping weapon rather than a stabbing one iirc.

Cacique Caribe11 Mar 2009 3:57 p.m. PST

Black Autumn,

Yes. They did. But it looked identical to the ancient Egyptian and Mid East Khopesh:

Good, good, good.

If you have the DVD, look at episode #12 ("Who Monitors The Birds?").

Between flashbacks, Cooper Hawkes has to deal with Chigs on the ground and they use those bladed weapons to finish off wounded human.

saab.epguides.info/?ID=1197

If I could find a clip or image of that scene, I'd share it.

CC

Cacique Caribe11 Mar 2009 8:30 p.m. PST

You barely get a glimpse of the bladed weapon 1:35 min into this complation video (which as bits from the episode I mentioned above):

Black Autumn Productions11 Mar 2009 8:34 p.m. PST

CC, how about if you just pick 1 from the images that you posted, and I will do that one.
I have no problem with that, becuase I know that you love this race.

I do too, but hey, you can pick as cool of a looking khopesh just as good as I can I should think.
grin

That Hawks was one cool fellow, that was a good video!

Cacique Caribe12 Mar 2009 1:29 p.m. PST

Since it is not their primary weapon, I would go with something a little shorter than the Egyptian one. Maybe something with an 18" hilt-to-blade length, like this one:

What do you think? Does it look wicked enough?

CC

Black Autumn Productions12 Mar 2009 1:47 p.m. PST

I like.
You like?

"Hey CC give me about a month."

OK. A month. But anticipation is gonna kill me.

Black Autumn Productions14 Mar 2009 5:51 a.m. PST

I would be happy to show you WIP now, but I can show nothing my friend, not until I get my new camera…in about a month.
WIP and completed grays will be posted all of the time afterwards.
Trust me, you WILL love these "NOT-Chigs".

Cacique Caribe14 Mar 2009 6:19 p.m. PST

Look at this Chig model:

And I finally found a picture of what their khopesh blade really looks like:

Yeah?
But did that say $80?
I would rather pay .80 cent.

Link was shared solely to give you a different and more active pose option, instead of having all the Chigs be at attention.

CC

Black Autumn Productions15 Mar 2009 6:27 p.m. PST

Yeah…but I think I should still charge $80…

Cacique Caribe20 Mar 2009 1:42 p.m. PST

BAP,

Has it been a month already??? :)

I'm going to paint up my Rebel Minis Earth Force figures this weekend and they'll be itching to shoot some Chigs.

CC

Black Autumn Productions20 Mar 2009 5:19 p.m. PST

It has been a week…lol.
I am working on them bro.
…and everything else…you are going to have Not-Fuzzies too.
grin

Black Autumn Productions31 Mar 2009 8:57 p.m. PST

Hey CC…Dan The(Posting)Man.

Not-Chig Report…the first trooper body is 1/2 complete (Legs and Torso), plus the sword for the army is done. The exposed head (1 of 2 types) is completed too.
grin
Pictures will be posted soon.

Cacique Caribe31 Mar 2009 9:01 p.m. PST

Michael,

I'm salivating already. I started painting my Rebel Minis Earth Force Marines and, once done, they'll be wanting to "get chiggy with it":

One of my investors called me tonight, and mentioned that he WILL have that new camera for me very soon…in 3 weeks at the very most, at my door.

Keep an eye on Dropship Horizon bud.

werwulf18 Apr 2009 9:42 p.m. PST

Any news on the Chigs yet?

Black Autumn Productions18 Apr 2009 10:55 p.m. PST

Hi Werwulf

If all goes well I will have some pictures of what I have been working on for you guys by the end of the month.
I have been doing a lot of sculpting.

CC

Black Autumn Productions18 Apr 2009 11:21 p.m. PST

Can't wait to get the new camera bud…lol.

For The White Star War ranges I have some Alien Monsters, my big bad Lizard-Men that will have the bits to convert them into Not-Chigs (just becuase you guys want them, and I like the idea), my version of a Fuzzy race (Not-Fuzzies/Wookies), Slug-Men and Bug-Men, and the Bio Consturcts (Crystal Monsters).
…and don't forget the Space Bar…lol!

…of course it will still be a little while before all of these pieces are ready to be Molded, but I am sculpting on them all, EVERY Day.

…and ALL of these new miniatures are in glorious 15MM …Yeah Baby!

Wow…

Black Autumn Productions22 Apr 2009 6:29 p.m. PST

Yes sir, yes sir, yes sir!

I just finished the front half (the hard part) of the Chigie Torso!
I think it turned out very well, and in fact it is a little mile post for me as a sculptor.

The detaile IS there on this one!

Pat me on the back Dan and who ever else wants Chigs…lol.

It took me an hour to do it, and 1 hour is a while to spend on half of a 15mm torso…for me at least.

Pictures come'n soon guys… hold on just a bit longer!

grin

Cacique Caribe22 Apr 2009 8:22 p.m. PST

Can't wait to see it!

CC

Black Autumn Productions30 Apr 2009 3:38 p.m. PST

Okay I have one thing left to do here, the back.
I have a few pictures of Chigs to work from.
link
This being the main image that I have used.

I have no idea really what a Chig back looks like…it has been a while since I watched the show…lol.

I tried looking at You Tube stuff but that dos not help much, not for my purposes.

CC or any other SA&B fan, can you help me out here…they have to have a back…don't they?

Michael

Cacique Caribe30 Apr 2009 4:19 p.m. PST

Michael,

The hand-to-hand fight scene in this clip (look at 1:36) is too brief to see what the backs look like:

YouTube link

I don't see any showing backs here either:

link

I'll save for you here any images I can find:

link

This profile from the suit designer is the closest I've found (so far):

link

If you know someone with good photoshop skills, he/she might be able to adjust contrast to bring out further details.

CC

Black Autumn Productions30 Apr 2009 5:01 p.m. PST

AH CC!

After looking at your Chig Set, I just noticed that I also did not sculpt a hose going from the gun to the back.

I think that the back is kind of flat, but continues to show a muscel patern like the front side.

Plus now that I just saw that damn hose coming off of the gun, I have an idea.

How would it be if I sculpt a little power pack, for the gun hose going to the back of the…back.

You know how the front has that piece raised from chest, the back would be like that kind of, but there would be a place to attach the gun hose at the bottom.

Of course that kind of means that the right arm is going to be limited in pose, but it will look cool, with the extra detailes.

You are the Lead-Chig Guy, so…
Is that cool?

Michael

Cacique Caribe30 Apr 2009 5:08 p.m. PST

I don't know if I would really go with having too many hoses, even though the show's props really had them:

link

That picture shows at least three, plus there was always one on the left shoulder.

Too many, if you ask me. Very distracting and prone to casting (flashing) problems, don't you think?

You are still doing the scythe/khophesh blade, right?

link

I think there has be be room in the back for drawing it out (I think they clamped it on the back – - – I think).
