This time around we decided to try one of the scenarios written by Bjarne Sinkjær. I also finally got in my Full Thrust Random event Deck and was eager to give that a try.

See this link for more info
TMP link

The scenario was pretty straight forward except for the solar wind special rule that, among other things, shortens a fighters endurance to only 4.

picture

The Fleets -

Narn (my opponent) defending

picture

Colonial Fleet (me)attacking

picture

And the objective. An old colonial refueling station that had been commandeered for use by the Narns. The tankers/freighters are Narn micro-machine models. at the time I took the picture I didn't realize the other end was the front. ah well.

picture

picture

The first thing my opponent did did was play "Moral High-ground". Meaning I couldn't with the scenario if I inflicted more damage than necessary to destroy a ship or base. Ah well….kill 'm all!

picture

Then, at the beginning of turn one, he plays this card. The three cards I had were great so I was pretty annoyed. However I got the "Thats not fair" card which would save me later.

picture

So, on to the action. The narn fleet was largely stationary and the colonials poured it on accelerating and launching vipers.

picture

picture

picture

I opened up with a missile barrage against one of his smaller ships hoping to inflict some early damage. I rolled great for the number of missiles that locked on but all were shot down anyway.

picture

The Narns fired several energy mines (were still working on coming up with good tokens for those so ignore the crude GW BFG ones).

picture

They caused only minor armor damage to Berserk but my opponent played this card! Ugh! remember that card I mentioned before? I played "Thats not Fair" and canceled it! LOL

picture

The Avenger escort was not as lucky however and had to take a threshold check losing its forward gun.

picture

The light Battlestar Furies only took a few minor armor hits.

The next turn got interesting. Furies launched the last of her vipers and Berserk closed with a small turn to port bringing he starboard side guns to bear. She also launched missiles at one freighter that had powered up its engines an was making its escape. (Only two would actually hit). The Narns sent one of their small ships to harass Furies and found itself chased by two viper squadrons. the other two viper squadrons went after the escaping freighter only to be engaged by an equal number of Narn fighters. both groups would wipe each other out.

picture

picture

Berserk opened up with her full broadside on the G'Vronn fast cruiser and hit with 3 of her 4 class 5 guns, two of which doubled. After the smoke cleared the G'Vronn was a wreck.

picture

picture

Next I played a card that allowed me to decide which of my opponents ships would fire next.

picture

I chose the retreating freighter (which did nothing) and then fired Furies at one of the Narn heavy escorts near G'Vronn, obliterating it and also at the little Narn ship the vipers were chasing, destroying it as well.

picture

picture

The Narn return fire was largely ineffective tho Berserk lost a little more than half her armor.

The next turn Berserk and Avenger plotted a course to orbit the fuel depot and Furies charged in recovering her two viper squadrons to ream them as attack craft.
The two Raptor squadrons (torpedo fighters) swooped in on the refueling station.
The Narns managed to get the engines started on a second freighter and it set course for an escape.

picture

A narn heavy destroyer swung around hoping to catch Berserk at point blank range and managed to inflict a fair amount of damage but was destroyed as a result. The raptors completely annihilated the fuel depot.

picture

picture

The first narn freighter managed its escape. "The first transport is away. The first transport is away."

picture

Furies opened fire on the G'Vronn again and missed but there was no cause for concern as the reactor damaged the ship had sustained earlier spelled its doom and caused the ship to explode anyway.

picture

The last turn was mostly a 'clean up' turn for the colonials. The last two freighters were hunted down and destroyed and the surviving narn ships could do little in return.

picture

The Random Event Cards were great and, at least in this game, were not unbalancing at all. The scenario itself tho needs some tweaking I think. The attackers have too much of a point advantage and there were no rules for where the depot and tankers should be set up. Closer to the defenders table edge than we had them would probably have been better.

As always- any and all comments welcome!

Great AAR, my random event cards are in the post!!!Can't wait!

That Colonial battleship is quite a monster, isn't it?!

I'm delighted to hear that the cards worked so well for you. Seems like they worked exactly as intended on this occasion – adding a bit of flavour and variety, but without turning the game on its head.

Nice AAR!

Awesome as always; we're all thanking you, of course.

Still, I can't shake the feeling the Berserk looks like a battlestar under construction… ;->=

lol…I agree. The first time I saw Razor thats what I thought it was. It definitely has that unfinished look to it.

@jimklein1966

It's been a few weeks since you posted, but I've just started looking around for a table top starship game. I found Full Thrust, and I love it.

I wanted to say that you report was great. I love your ship data sheets, and I'm wondering how you did them. I'm interested in the events cards that you used, and will look around for them.

I have two quick questions. Where did you get the Berzerk class miniature and the clear star ship bases.

jimklein196627 Jun 2013 5:21 p.m. PST

Pensacola,
Welocme to the addiction that is FT ! lol
The Berserk is from Fantastic Plastic and is, sadly, out of print. You can still find them on ebay sometimes tho.

The colonial SSDs were made with microsoft paint. the card they are on was made with microsoft word. If you post your email addy I'll send you the artwork files and template. The Narn SSDs were made by the Narn player using a differnt method. I dont know what that is, sorry.

The clear bases are made by Corsec Engineering.

Are you still in the pensacola area? We'll be hosting Full Thrust at Pelicon all day Saturday.

Glad you liked the AAR ! Thanks!

PensacolaWarhammer4027 Jun 2013 7:21 p.m. PST

Thanks for the reply. I was able to find the bases after I performed some of my Google-fu. I've been expanding my gaming pallet recently. I've tried a little BFG last year, but couldn't really get into it. It seemed to lack a lot of things that I would have like to see in a starship game. Now I've found FT. I spent an hour and a half last night toying around with some ship builds, and had to stop because of sleep.

You can reach me at wickett@hotmail.com

I completely forgot that Pelicon was Saturday. I don't have a fleet, but I might swing by and look around. Where is it going to be held again?

jimklein196627 Jun 2013 9:28 p.m. PST

Here's the link for pelicon

link

Its at Ragon Hall, 2600 Stratford Rd

We'll be running FT all day. We'll have models available for new players (Star Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, others as well).

I'll send you the files I use for my SSDs.

Hope to see you there!

jimklein196627 Jun 2013 10:20 p.m. PST

just tried emailing you that info and the email addy you posted here didnt work :(

We will also be playing up at bobes tomorrow, this friday, at 1:00.

jimklein196627 Jun 2013 10:34 p.m. PST

I'm posting some other AARs if your interested. Each shows the different things you can do w the game. Enjoy and as always, any and all comments are welcome :)

@PensacolaWarhammer40 If you happen to be on any Yahoo! groups, Jim has put up a lot of material (Thanks, Jim!) on both the 'BSGgaminginminiature' and 'FullThrust' groups.

I'd never suggest starting up with Groups to anyone, but if you're already there, joining these are suggested to someone interested in playing FT and/or BSG on the table.
