The final version of my work to introduce random events into Full Thrust is described here: link

Let's see what you all make of that!

VERY, VERY COOL! I do have one question though. What are the boarding rules you're referring to? I don't remember those in FT2.5

colgar618 May 2013 1:08 p.m. PST

Boarding rules are in the original "More Thrust" book. They're also repeated in "Full Thrust – Cross Dimensions". They're optional or advanced or something like that.

Mind you, in all the games I've seen I've never seen anyone manage to manoeuvre into position to be able to attempt a boarding action!

jimklein196618 May 2013 3:42 p.m. PST

Boarding actions are extreamly rare unless you are assaulting a base. It can be somewhat more common if you use boarding torpedoes, transporters or assault shuttles tho. (see the Warlord rules)

Oh and the cards are very cool. I just need to figure out how to print them

tberry740318 May 2013 6:08 p.m. PST

Great idea and nice looking cards.

I just need to figure out how to download them. I followed the link to the PowerPoint file and it keeps wanting me to downloaded some third-party software (NOT). frown

I gave up andjust ordered them. I'll post how good the material is when they get here, abt two weeks.

Huh, I wasn't expecting that, sorry! Maybe this direct link will work better: link

Didn't have any problem downloading; can be a bit confusing as to WHICH button to push. Power of the buck, don't you know.

I tried printing out the cards from PP, but the 'slides' were small images in a sea of white.

When I 'published' to a PDF, used multi-print to duplex, and counted out enough page ones to fill a page, then two through how many I put per page (9), enough pages one to fill a page, etc.

The printer's slack left a bit of offset, but worked out well enough for me.

Somebody else may be a PP guru for a shorter path…

I hate M$.

Hugh, I did say thanks before, and must again!

Bit OT, Hugh, but wanted you to know we tried the sample ATZ cards last night.

Went through the whole game without hitting an event, until we were ALMOST out. Then three. Wicked.

GM really liked 'em! Everybody else blamed me for bringing them. 'But I looked in the back seat!' ;->=

Hugh,

The new link worked fine. Thanks.

Hugh,

These are great! Will give em a try in my next FT game.
Thank you for making them available here.

Hugh,

Out of curiosity, what did you use to make these cards please?

I used bighugelabs.com/deck.php to make random event cards for my Star Wars FT scenario

(which can be seen at link )

Or you can see example card below :

@The Beast

I tried printing out the cards from PP, but the 'slides' were small images in a sea of white.

When I 'published' to a PDF, used multi-print to duplex, and counted out enough page ones to fill a page, then two through how many I put per page (9), enough pages one to fill a page, etc.

NOT a PP Guru, but I got this to work with my printer using the document as-is:

After selecting Print:

1) Print what: Handouts

2) Select 4 slides per page

3) Select Letter mode and Portrait

4a) If you use Normal printing the cards come out large enough to fit into the hard plastic card sleeves with very little trimming.

4b) If you use Scaled printing at 90% the cards come out small enough to fit into the normal card sleeves with very little trimming.

I chose these sizes because my poor old eyes don't see small print very well these days. grin

As I said, this work with my printer, YMMV.

Hope this helps,

Tim

Hugh,
Out of curiosity, what did you use to make these cards please?
It's all done in PowerPoint. I spent a certain amount of effort up front to make a decent template (modeled on MtG). The process I followed is described in more detail on my blog, here: link

thedrake22 May 2013 8:30 a.m. PST

Hugh,

Thanks--thought it was done in PP but wasnt sure if cards done first then converted to PP.

Great job on the FT event deck--will be ordering one from Artscow.

TheBeast Supporting Member of TMP22 May 2013 10:02 a.m. PST

@Tim Thanks! I'll give it a try later, though the ones I spun off will probably work.

@Hugh I just discovered I've been confusing the two Hughs, you and the fellow in the antipodes who cranked out XD. I was WONDERING how so much awesome could come from one fellow.

As to your concern above,
PS RE: ATZ No, no hurt except some feelings. Really, he kept saying 'I CHECKED the back seat…' in that quiet tone showing he was not amused. We were, including another 'victim' of the same card. I'll send Josh the link for the whole deck. Merely showing the FT deck got the usual 'we've really got to play Full Thrust again…'

Doug

Nicely done, Hugh. :)

Reminds me of the Threshold Deck cards that "Felix Enterprises" did years ago for their take on Trek, to replace the standard threshold rolls of standard Full Thrust.

VERY nice work, Sir!

Thecards just arrived. Very nice! Same quality as regular playingcards.

Question abt the rules tho. What constitutes a "volley"? Is it all the fire from an entire ship or just a single weapons battery/system ?

thedrake02 Jun 2013 8:52 a.m. PST

Waiting on my set to arrive…hope they will be in tomorrow's mail!

Jim,sorry you wont be able to make Bayou Wars--was looking forward to your Full Thrust game.

jimklein196602 Jun 2013 3:11 p.m. PST

Thanks, just bad timing all round. Hope somebody gets lots of pictures! Were hoping to do something t pelicon if there is any interest.

colgar603 Jun 2013 2:10 a.m. PST

What constitutes a "volley"?
Ah – I had intended this to mean "all the fire from a single ship at a single target in a single turn". So if a cruiser fires all of its torpedoes and half of its beams at an enemy battleship then that is 1 volley. If the cruiser then fires the remainder of its beams at a nearby destroyer (in the same turn) then that is a second volley. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Great, thanks for clearing that up. :)

I hope you'll be very happy with them. I'm always interested to hear about people's experiences with these cards.

thedrake05 Jun 2013 9:32 p.m. PST

Got mine in the mail today and really like em.

Next week plan on playing a Trek TOS-era game solo to try out these cards. Will have each side draw one card at start and whomever wins Initiative will immediately choose, before looking at their card, to either play their card OR choose for opponent to play their card--this way can start off with a random event as a way to get the cards in play. After that anyone rolling a 6 on their Initaitve roll will draw one card (even if BOTH sides roll 6,they both draw one card.)

Will get pics of the game along with the cards used and post an AAR.

Hugh,thanks for making these!

jimklein196608 Jun 2013 5:03 p.m. PST

Played the first game w these today. Loved it! I'll post the AAR soon. Another question tho- for the card 'Panel Overload' it says "when the ship takes damage" …etc etc. Does it mean any damage at all to include armor or just damage to hull boxes? We played it where armor didn't count as damage for the purposes of this card.

I'm already looking forward to this :-) .

As to the effect of the "Panel Overload" card, I think I'd play it the same way and apply the effect only if *hull* damage is taken. I don't think it would be wrong to play it the other way though, if that's what you wanted to do – as long as you can make a coherent argument in favour of this (based on logic, science and the physics of movies, of course!).

jimklein196609 Jun 2013 12:51 p.m. PST

Thanks! The AAR is up. Colonial fleet vs the narns. Check it out. I photographed the cards we used for it- pics didnt turn out great but you can read what they say.

colgar609 Jun 2013 1:21 p.m. PST

The AAR is up.
Link, please?

Gaz004514 Jun 2013 6:39 a.m. PST

Excellent- my cards have arrived…..had a good chuckle going thru' both sets (ATZ & FT) over lunch……..wife and kids grossed out over the zombie pics………more lunch for me!

colgar614 Jun 2013 8:14 a.m. PST

…wife and kids grossed out over the zombie pics…
Your kids must have weaker stomachs than mine; I don't think *anything* would put them off their food!
