Got pictures of your 15mm alien invasion game(s?)

And what terrain have you made/bought to play your alien invasion game? Have you fortified a regular-looking facility, like a high school?

And are you painting your survivalists like regular people, like the people in "Falling Skies"?

And what figures are you using for the invaders?

By the way, I'm thinking of turning this Tyco HO scale 7up plant into the core of some sort of school complex:

Dan, have you looked at the graphic novel The Walking Dead, the one that HBO did for TV? In the books, they have several compounds/fortified positions. Those are for defence against zombies, but still lots of good inspiration.

The 7-UP plant for a school complex is a great idea. The bars on the windows are appropriate to where I live. It gets the kids in my area accustomed to their life outside of school: convicted felons.

But seriously, I like the idea of Sci Fi happening in a contemporary setting. An alien invasion melds into post apocalyptic and horror. We can tip our hats to H.G. Wells for this one.

I assume the outhouse would be for when there is no power (and therefore the waterpump isn't working--at least for the second flush).

Or they want to conserve water. No water needed to go in a hole. And if they do it the military way, they pull out the tub and burn it.

While I like Falling Skies, nobody looks quite gritty enough, and--is eBay still working so they can get their Maybelline?

Just finished the first chapter on Travis Taylor's book on alien invasions (put your head between your legs and . . .). Tomorrow's War here I come!

Neat compound … I'd have hung out there … evil grin

Cacique Caribe19 Oct 2011 9:45 p.m. PST

It is neat, isn't it.

I wonder what other cool maps/diagrams are out there, of compounds small enough to be recreated on a gaming table.

Dan

Cacique Caribe21 Oct 2011 10:15 p.m. PST

And if you don't want to buy an entire plant, just put together a few unrelated structures and make something like this:

Would this "Uzochi Compound" be too hard to build for 15mm?

I think a school like the one depicted in the series might be a bit bigger than I'm ready for:

What about the series "Dark Skies" from the 90s?I think theres a game in there somewhere.

Cacique Caribe22 Jan 2012 2:02 p.m. PST

Geoff B,

"Beautiful survivalist camp"

Are you referring to the Toronto school grounds used in the Falling Skies series (the one they call "Kennedy High School")?

Or are you talking about the "Uzochi Compound" drawing I found by accident?

^This…. Yeah, this bothered me too. Hmm.

Cacique Caribe23 Jan 2012 12:33 a.m. PST

Guys, guys . . .

You know very well that every house they encounter and harvest goods from will have lots and lots of makeup that women left behind in the rush to leave.

There will be mountains and mountains of that stuff, enough to last a couple of generations.

QUESTION:

Does anyone else plan to watch or record the 2-part National Geographic Channel show "Doomsday Preppers" on Tuesday, Feb 7, 2012?

It aired once before a while back, but I missed it.

Anyone see the film "The Day"?

Regardless who the enemy was in the film, I wonder if a good game could be made out of just a dozen of survivors defending a farm from . . . aliens?

Very, very cool!!!

What sort of ruined terrain pieces have you made or bought for your human survivors to hide in?

HA! The minute I looked at that picture I thought, "Tekumel".

Then I noticed the link and sure enough.

@Cacique Caribe – I've bought several ruined buildings and Gothic buildings from Proxie Models:
proxiemodels.com/terrain.aspx

Cheap and nice!

Cacique Caribe25 Feb 2012 12:34 p.m. PST

Golan2072,

Are the bricks in those buildings compatible with 15mm figures?

Thanks,

Dan

Golan207225 Feb 2012 1:15 p.m. PST

@Cacique Caribe – They are made specifically for 15mm figures. I'll post a photo of them with some minis tomorrow.

Cacique Caribe25 Feb 2012 2:32 p.m. PST

Excellent! Can't wait to see them.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Golan2072,

Did you get a chance to take those pics?

Thanks,

Here's another Canadian facility turned into a SF resistance holdout (in this case, for Caprica resistance fighters on BSG):

@ Cacique Caribe

Unfortunately, my RL was very busy as of late. I'll try to unbox the terrain and take pictures soon.

Cacique Caribe20 Mar 2012 9:06 a.m. PST

Golan,

I understand completely. Real life definitely comes first.

In the meantime, for your viewing pleasure, check out what Brother Joseph has done here:

I don't have the motel, but I think I have that HO gas station in a box somewhere. I'm definitely going to have to put it together and paint it now.

Here was another game he ran:

Is that Post Apocalyptic set up cool or what? I can almost imagine alien invaders lurking among the buildings.

Dan

Cacique Caribe20 Mar 2012 9:35 a.m. PST

Hey,

Here's that Bachman gas station again, this time on Daddy's Little Men:

And someone's gotta warn the masses about the danger:

More pics of his here:

Stunning stuff, don't you think? And I can see it being used for fighting all sorts of aliens too.

Or for your I Am Legend survivors to attack:

PS. This is what I hope I can do in 15mm with my two-story structures:

Cacique Caribe29 Mar 2012 9:50 p.m. PST

Guys,

National Geographic Channel is airing tonight their 2-hour 2011 special "When Aliens Attack".

YouTube link

One interesting suggestion given in the show is to use a photo of Earth at night to determine the areas you need to run to (the areas not lit):

picture

Or, go underground, literally (sewers, subways, cave networks, etc.).

So gaming scenarios with survivors in thick forests/jungles or subterranean environments would seem the most realistic scenarios.

The show seems to mention this book a lot, "Alien Invasion: How To Defend Earth":

picture

link

I wonder if anything useful (for gaming) can be gleaned from that book.

Here are some ideas on what young resistance fighters could look like, if someone was thinking of making them in 15mm:
