Between the two it has to be the Old Crow figs. They are in more combative poses, come with support weapons and a heavy weapon; the crew for which can be used for other heavy weapons crew or as a command team. They lack a SAW but you can easily make one if you shorten the sniper rifle barrel and give it a fusewire bipod. No recent pics but this was the WIP: picture My favourite Near Future are Khurasan 'Federals' = good range of poses, wide range of support/heavy weapons, higher command, signallers. I think they carry the transition from Now to Future well and versatile enough to be American, Russian, Chinese or other nations. Cheers Mark |

Khurasans Feds without a doubt. One of the main reasons is the fact that there is plenty of different figures from command to support weapons. I just wont spend the money any more on a range that only has one set of figures. |

The Old Crow infantry can also be seen here on the Hammers Slammers website: link Damn photos make me want to buy a whole new bunch! Cheers Mark |

Micropanzer's SAS is my favorite infantry line, even though the helmets are a bit undersized. I like the armor, and I think the weapons are big and chunky enough to either be early-model directed energy weapons, or very high tech selectable-munition conventional weapons (multi-caliber rifle, airburst, and grenade all in one). Critical Mass' ARC Fleet Light Recon and GZG NAC are two other very good options
I have large forces of both. The Old Crow range is really cool
I'd pick some up if it was expanded. The Model Nines were a neat concept when JBR first had them commissioned, but they were sadly outdated by the time they were released. Chris |

On a related tangent
what would the favorite line of troops for a near future/future relatively well-equipped 3rd World nation be? Most of the current offerings seem too techy for my tastes, but I'd like 3rd World government troops to carry something that doesn't look like an AK-47. |
nvdoyle | 09 May 2011 4:09 p.m. PST |
In the next 25-50 years
they'll still have AKs. |
clkeagle | 09 May 2011 5:33 p.m. PST |
Astranagant – Rebel Sahadeen or RAFM Planetary Militia come to mind, depending on the environment. Or like nvdoyle said
just use modern first-world troops and say their weapons were "passed down" from us. :) Chris |

Owww, I like this poll! For me, toss up b/t Khurasan's Feds and GZG's second version of their NAC infantry. Nvdoyle is correct though, any non-first world country will still be using the AK for the next 200 years. |
Little Big Wars | 10 May 2011 12:04 a.m. PST |
But a non-first world country on another planet in a completely different solar system? I've already got my anti-gov't forces toting AK-47s and ACRs (amongst the better equipped). GZG's FSE Colonial Legionnaires might fit the bill, but there's not much in the way of poses. |

Hi Dan, those Old Crow figures look good, my favourite would be GZG NAC or Khurasans Feds, I don't have the feds but would love some. |

Thanks Dan. Not too bad for a speed job. I was going to have the bases as black volcanic sand with light coloured tufts which would have been striking but wimped out. Still they are ready to go hunting down Tijuana way. Cheers Mark |

Here's some more I started work on today which once painted will be : 1 squad of P.Pig Legionnaires (AK47 range), in standard helmets with green stuff visors 2 squads of P.Pig Legionnaires (AK47 range) in mix of berets (with some further conversions) and CMG Light Recon helmeted heads. 1 squad of CMG Light Recon in a mix of their own helmets and P.Pig separate Modern Legion berets I've designed it to be a flexible tarsnitional force that can move between tech levels depending upon the squads and support options chosen. Anyhoo' here's the first one as I was really happy with the eay he turned out: link There will be more photos posted during the course of the week. Cheers Mark |

But a non-first world country on another planet in a completely different solar system? Simple, cheap to make, and reliable, even when made from stamped steel or aluminum receivers. Yeah, they'd use AKs. ARs are all machined, and require much more maintenance. It's why an AR is $1000, and an AK is $500. USDEven the new AK103s, which aren't 'Avtomat Kalashnikovas' mechanically anymore, still look like they were designed by Uncle Mikhail. |

This show has some ideas on how to make a survivalist camp: link link I wonder if any of them can be done in 15mm. TMP link TMP link Dan PS. Here is my attempt at something like it long ago: link |
Gunner Dunbar | 29 Jun 2011 2:30 a.m. PST |
I don't know about those model 9s, I know they are supposed to look unatural, but I don't think it translates well in a 15mm mini, if you didn't know what they were supposed to be they would look like stiff and poorly proportioned sculpts, I guess the idea is that we do know what they are supposed to be, but this hobby is very visual and if its not pleasing to the eye it doesn't work for me. |
