If you like that, check this out: YouTube link There are several "Future Soldier" videos out there, and they're all kind of cool in a hokey way. |

I confess that to me one man in armor looks pretty much like any other man in armor. I don't know why, when for the ACW a frock coat and a sack coat look radically different to me. These look to me like any of a hundred other, very similar armored troops I've seen. |

Except for the visor, they look a bit like my corporate marines! |

For those in the top set of images, these exquisite 15mm OCs are just about spot-on: picture picture picture link link picture The photos don't do them justice. They are absolutely fantastic. Dan |

The suit has a great Halo look about it chief.Only thing is had a weird feeling they should have skateboards?
.. actually hover boards would be cool, bit of plasti-card and bottom fins like the mega city 2000ad surfers. |

The only real world problem with the design posted is the leg supports. I wore a series of leg supprots for pole climbing while in the Marine Corps and I can tell you first hand that any thing that can be caught will be caught. Look at the outer shin area. There is a 3" gap then a metal or fiber reinforced support. That is a snag point. Bad juju. I had climbing gear with a 1" gap that caught on everything from getting in/out of vehicles, especially jeeps
to low brush/plants/barbed wire/etc.. Other than that, the suit looks good. :) PS All it would need is an over lapped shin guard, which would be welcome anyway. Any impact would be absorbed without touching the shin. |
Kilkrazy | 04 Nov 2009 9:05 a.m. PST |
I didn't think they were anything astonishing, probably because there have been so many visuals of imaginary future armour in films from Robocop to Aliens. |
FingerandToeGlenn | 04 Nov 2009 9:19 a.m. PST |
That last set better have some serious AC or superabsorbent full-body Pampers. Imagine VietNam or Irag in one of those. Yet another reason why I choose USAF. |

FingerandToeGlenn, LOL. That's because they must be wearing a Fremen "Stillsuit": link CC |

..mmmmmm
the ODST from HALO in the screen grab yes, then possibly, but not the others IMO. I'm going to give a squad of Corporate Marines heads from Rebel Minis Infiltrators and see how they look. Cheers Mark |
khurasanminiatures | 04 Nov 2009 3:50 p.m. PST |
Not sure what you're referring to, I mean the pictures CC originally posted. Except for the closed helmets, I think the Corp marines look quite a bit like those future soldier concepts. I'm actually considering asking Mike to do mods to them to give them closed helmets like the images CC posted
. |
Cacique Caribe | 04 Nov 2009 3:54 p.m. PST |
Khurasan, I think you and Mark are actually thinking the same plans. Mark: "I'm going to give a squad of Corporate Marines heads from Rebel Minis Infiltrators and see how they look." Dan |
Stuuuh | 04 Nov 2009 5:56 p.m. PST |
How are the Khurasan Marines selling? Are they going well enough that we might see a more 'active' pose pack? |
CPT Shanks | 04 Nov 2009 11:42 p.m. PST |
eh
They don't look functional except maybe as movie props where I can strip down between sets and cool off, I for one don't want to be humping around wearing kevlar sleeves, the helmets would restrict vision, or added weight of the the lights, two camelback drinking tubes maybe one is water the other for Rockstar or RIpIts, Cool concepts sure but not practical, more of a geardo's wet dream. And yeah they would make cool minis, but I realy hated wearing the bat wings and can only imagine full sleeves, especially dismounted, f that. |
Dropship Horizon | 05 Nov 2009 3:30 a.m. PST |
No, sorry Jon – whilst they are in the same ball park and anyone can use them as such in squint mode – they are different – particularly the latter concept art pics in Dan's original post. Helmet aside, GZG New Israeli's are actually a closer match with enclosed ergonomic armour. But then I wouldn't dream of using Burgundian Wars Swiss at Pavia, or Crecy English/French Men at Arms at Agincourt or Orleans. I do think new helmets are a great idea though. Cheers Mark |

As someone who made Tadjik archers, a single troop type in late Medieval Central Asian armies, because no one made accurate models for the native Persian levies in a felt hat and persian shawl (most manufacturers just give you guys in Arab getup and turbans), I am very sympathetic to the notion of using the right models for historical gaming. picture I took a look at the GZG New Israelis and like the models a lot but they look nothing like the images above of near future troops. They look much more like Storm Troopers in Star Wars, with tubular armour sections enclosing the entire limb section: picture picture Whereas the Corp Marines have cloth undersections with panels of armour over them, just as the near future models shown by Dan in his first post. picture picture So I would disagree that the models are not suitable for use as near future like the pictures posted. Of course the helmet is not visored but I've already mentioned that, and I think it's rather nice to have sci fi models without visors, virtually all of the rest have them. |

Ahem. Rule No. 1 on the "100 Things I'd Do If I Ever Became An Evil Overlord" list: 1. My Legions of Terror will have helmets with clear plexiglass visors, not face-concealing ones. We're skirting awfully close to danger here. |
Dropship Horizon | 05 Nov 2009 1:53 p.m. PST |
I would disagree that the models are not suitable for use as near future Show me where I said that! Here's a Corp Marine conversion with Rebel Minis Infiltrators head: link Cheers Mark |
Cacique Caribe | 05 Nov 2009 2:07 p.m. PST |
Khurasan, Dude. What gives? Like I mentioned above, that is not how I read Mark's comment. If anything, he just thought that the figures would be dead on with a simple head swap, which he soon did. CC |
Dragon Gunner | 05 Nov 2009 2:10 p.m. PST |
"So I would disagree that the models are not suitable for use as near future like the pictures posted." I think the Kevlar looking helmet makes people think near future or Starship Troopers (movie). I happen to like the look and hope Khurasan produces more of them. My only complaint is how they are packaged with support and command weapons in the same pack. I would have prefered more of a CMG approach. I need more support weapons in my rifle squads. Oh well extra command troopers are destined for head swaps with other miniatures. |
Cacique Caribe | 05 Nov 2009 2:21 p.m. PST |
What would you guys think of this look, but as 15mm? picture picture picture I know the manufacturer is not gonna go with another scale, but the overall concept/look is still doable. TMP link CC |
Altius | 05 Nov 2009 2:33 p.m. PST |
Maybe it's just me, but those photos in the original post look like the bad guy troops from sci-fi movies. The kind that belong to the army of the oppressive overlord who rules over your planet, and they call you "citizen" in deep, authoritarian tones while asking to see your papers. Something about the look just makes me want to start a resistance movement. :) I guess it could be worse, though: picture |
khurasanminiatures | 05 Nov 2009 8:45 p.m. PST |
Show me where I said that! Well yup I did leave out the "like the pictures posted" part in my last comment, so I misspoke on that. Anyway, I'll still stand by the notion that, except for the helmets, the models do pretty nicely resemble some of the concept pics that CC posted. I actually spent part of my day off today, intended to pack orders that backed up whilst I was out of stock of the Felids, instead painting a corporate marine in the colour scheme of one of the pictures that CC had posted! Just finished it, and .. damn my awful photo skills! It's nighttime and the light here is not good for photography at night, but here it is anyway: picture |
