For you Far East experts . . . Anyone know how these boats work for 15mm figures? Any experience with their products? TMP link QUESTION: Who else makes waterline boats with an "Asian" feel, that could fit 15mm figures? link link The ones at the middle of this page are the only ones I've found online, but can't tell what scale they are: link I'm trying to avoid doing a scratch-build, but I guess I'm always open to that (but as a last resort). Thanks guys. CC PS. There's method to the madness: TMP link TMP link |

Something like this, but capable of carrying 6-8 or so 15mm figures (on 1/2 inch washers) would be fantastic: link picture I guess that, if absolutely necessary, and there are no other reasonable ready-made options, I could eventually make one using this outline as a model: picture This pattern would have to be modified so as to get a square front (bow?): PDF link link CC |

For sampans I suggest you hunt through Vietnam ranges and adapt as needed. Not having collected for the period, I'm not sure who has what but I'm betting in the appropriate TMP forum you can get a response. |

Vulcain has 15-20mm sized sampans that work with 15mm figures (Vietnam era). They might be worth a look. I've got some & they're nice models. |

These guys seem to have some but they may be kind of large. PDF link They specify one as a seagoing junk but do not confirm the others are for riverine use. link Hmm, the source shows they are. |

I'd like to find Asian ships ranging in size from about 2 to 8 inches for use with Uncharted Seas. Could easily use the human fleet rules instead of their western sailing ship style. |

Toyswithpurpose have a slightly wider range than that but they didn't answer my last email. link I don't like the huge structural gaps, but think they can still be used for something. |

Not being overly impressed by these resin sampans . . . link . . . I went ahead and made this one, initially planned for post apocalyptic use: link TMP link However, it looks like it would fit better if used with Chinese/Japanese pirates, don't you think? Anyway, after constant urging from my wife and nephew, I went ahead and painted the boat. It isn't really sealed with anything, just paint. Is the paint now going to present a problem in making a mould? link link link link Thanks. Dan PS. Now it seems like it would fit best with Chinese/Japanese pirates, don't you think? I wish I could give you a manufacturer name, but all I can do is describe the sampans I purchase for my Vietnam collection (as yet unpainted). They are ceramic without a glaze so they will take paint well. They were originally made to decorate planters for banzai trees, but they have flat bottoms and are perfect for 15mm. I bought mine at my local Saturday swap meet, but you may find a garden shop that can point you in the right direction. Richard |

Ok. This is what my Post Apocalyptic sampan looks like: link And this is basically what I want to turn it into: picture Notice the rustic living/cargo area and the tires. This may be another way to go: picture picture Got any suggestions? Thanks, Dan link |
