I know that some have lots of time and patience to scratch-build their own. But . . . Honestly, I know of no one that makes and sells 15mm Post-Apocalyptic boats, barges, and items for "island" defense (for tops of submerged buildings), even jetskis, etc. From the many comments offered by gamers, it seems clear (to me, at least) that these are all in demand: TMP link TMP link TMP link TMP link But, what do you guys think? Would a variety of 15mm Post-Apocalyptic watercraft and dwellings sell? CC |

Sell yes, but in quantities necessary to make it cost effective to produce let alone make a living? However, if there is a game/rules to support and promote the miniatures, well constructed website, fan blogs, games at shows, then yes, every chance. Are we atalking sustainable demand or a subject that's momentarily caught the imagination? Cheers Mark |

Though I like the idea of a water based game I see it as such a small part of my games that I doubt it would take off as a sustainable income stream. Mark hits the nail on the head – you need the rules and support before the models but who would risk the models without the rules? I do wonder however if a conversion of picture or picture could be done to make a two / three man landing craft? Andrew blog.kings-sleep.me.uk |

Well I was wondering about 'Brown River Navy' stuff from GOMI designs and P Pig does a good PBR in 15mm. link I think the 'fun' in this project is the 'Heath Robinson' DIY approach. Cheers Mark |

Anyone know were to get 28mm jetskis. |
Cacique Caribe | 25 Jul 2009 9:46 a.m. PST |
Never seen them. In either 15mm or 28mm. But I'm sure someone will suggest customizing some grav bike or something. Which goes back to what I started with. I'd rather buy something already produced than make or customize my own. CC |

GZG also do Hammers Slammers infantry. "SG15-HS3 Slammers infantry on skimmers (pack of 4 skimmers with riders; one-piece castings)" Cheers Mark |

Yes CC, and to quote Jon "they are more like a hover version of a modern jetski, actually, with the rider in a crouched/kneeling position gripping handlebars." Cheers Mark |

The Tango Boat would make for a good pirate vessel or even floating fortress on the flooded Earth. It's amphibious nature would make it well-suited to handle to rubble-strewn water ways. -Eli leadpeople.blogspot.com |

I posted this on another thread, but adding to it,with more thought, with some card stock and balsa wood, it wood take some thinking to structurally make it sound but can be done I believe with ease, some painting and weathering and "WOW" I kind have an idea of several large river barges tied together and gangplanks, In a large "U" shape with floating docks with gangways, or stairs more to the inside of the protecting "U" of the barges, for the smaller boats, some watch towers and shanties or more structural buildings, heavier weapons positions, and outer wall with gun ports done with shipping containers, a crane on one of the barges to load large stuff, maybe at a point for a large ship to dock, smaller boats go out get the loot, bringing the loot back to this point then load on a larger boat to haul to market. some storage points small warehouses on a couple of barges. |

If you take the global warming issue, to the full extent, with those areas flooded compounded with the lack of glacial waters that flow through many areas, it will get crowded in many areas where fresh water is to be found and food. Think of all the artificial reefs that will be out there then. So what about emergency relief sites using barges, food, water, shelter, medical supplies, fuel, women. Might as well give the pirates a target to hit or to take, play the other end, instead of knocking off the pirates being the military or what ever, be the pirates! |

Mil Dot, "and outer wall with gun ports done with shipping containers" Believe it or not, I found a local model railroad shop that carries HO scale 20' containers. I bought 3. I took two of them and cut them in half lengthwise, to make four walls/towers on raised mounds of "debris" on the edges of the building-islands. The other container I took the bottom off and laid it sideways to create sleeping quarters or storage/munitions. TMP link What do you think of that use of the shipping containers? I seem to remember a scene in The Postman where they use shipping containers to create a gate of some sort. You can barely see that on this page. Look at the image from 20 minutes into the film (left side, towards the middle). Three containers are placed so that one is supported over two others, with an entrance underneath: link Guys, I really want to thank you. You definitely have some awesome ideas that I will have to incorporate into the terrain pieces I have planned. Please keep them coming. Particularly now, since I am still in the conceptual stage and can adapt my sketches as needed before getting busy with the materials. Thanks so much. Dan |

Eli, I like that Tango Boat too: link I doubt WWII and Vietnam War watercraft would be around or available if an apocalyptic flood event were to happen tomorrow. So, I guess this would be the more current type, right? link I find it interesting that, during the Civil War, they came up with mortar barges like this: tardus.net/mortarBoat.html link I guess that, if push comes to shove, something similar (minus the mortar gun) might be built and used by PA survivors, don't you think? Thanks. CC |

I might be interested in writing rules for waterwoldesque stuff for our Mutants and Death Ray Guns game. In the MDRG world, the whole Mediterranean basin is flooded (Venice is now underwater and populated by amphibious mutants). The problem is: how can I write rules for models that are not available yet? Rules writers have more or less the same problem of miniature manufacturers. Sure our material costs are close to zero but the time needed to develop, test (and scratch build or proxy the non-existing-yet models to playtest the rules!) is similar. ganeshagames.blogspot.com |

My plan is before the end of the year. This includes the conex containers – 10 and 20 foot, hopefully the barge, swiftboat and maybe a PBR. I want to do a LARC-5 link which would be useful for your post apoc stuff but it will be next year and I don't know if it'd sell
. All 15mm, but made some progress on the Swiftboat since those pics too. |

QUESTION What if I did the following . . . 1) Take a beveled Warhammer Chariot Base (50mm x 100mm, or about 2" by 4"): picture picture 2) Turn that base upside down, so that the narrower side rests on the bottom; 3) Fill the space with Green Stuff; and 4) Prepare a hut to sit on top of the filled side So . . . Do you think it would work as the hull of a PA house-boat of sorts? Of course, the huts on top would be as rustic as these: picture picture picture picture I'm curious to see what you guys think of that crazy idea. Thanks. CC TMP link TMP link TMP link |

I know this is a long way off. As it is not a priority, but on my hobby side of things. I have planned for a demonstration game I hope at Bovingdon in July 2010 if not it will be 2011, as I said it is not a priority. I plan to do what I would call an Orcandy beach landing. The idea will be to scratch build many different orc landing craft , and other sea craft, destroyers, aircraft carriers, the list is massive. As I said this was never intended to be part of The Scene as a business it is my side of the hobby. How ever if there is enough interest I will mould the items and make them available. Mike |

Mike, That is awesome. I guess that, in the meantime, I am going to have to resort on some creative scratch-building, like this: link That example, however, is for 28mm figures. Therefore, I am going to have a little conversion work. Fingers crossed. Dan |

I love these photos: picture picture picture --------------------- I know that this says 1/35, but I wonder if the barge section itself (minus all the accessories) could work as a basic barge for 15mm: link Dan PS. I hope that, for that price, it does include the barge section. |
