How do the two ranges compare in size and bulk?

Would they mix well as futuristic hooded desert dwellers?

Or would their differences be two obvious?

Thanks.

I just picked up some GZG Islamic troops from another TMPer. I intend to use them to represent Planetary Defense Force troops from a desert planet. Similar to the Tallarn of 40K.

Hi CC

On the table at normal viewing distances potentially they will match but side by side and up close no.

The GZG islamics are shorter and chunkier. The guys with helmets are fine but the heads with Keffiyehs are chunkier still and make them look like Ewoks IMO. link

"shorter and chunkier"
"chunkier still and make them look like Ewoks"

LOL. You mean they could pass for Sahadeen Dwarves then? :)

No, LOL. Sahadeen Ewoks.

Stick to Rebel Minis and to add further variety go with Peter Pig AK47 range PLO types: peterpig.co.uk/range17.htm.

They will match better if you pack up their bases by about a mm. If you want specific figs – remember Martin sells individuals – drop me an email.

Shame about the scale issue. I was getting all ready to place an order. So Mark your saying peter pig's are about a mm shorter?
Thanks for the info!

Dropship Horizon16 Aug 2009 4:34 p.m. PST

It's in the eye of the beholder. I think the 'heft' of these particular GZG minis rather than size is the issue.

The Peter Pig are on average a mm or so shorter to eye level. Once painted and based it probably won't show, especially at normal viewing distances, but I just wanted to highlight the difference as it also means they can be slighter in some instances.

I've recently purchased the AK-47 hardened militia.

I'm packing for a business trip tonight, so I can't take any comparison photos.

However, the hardened militia is actually comparable to the Old Crow infantry in height and heft, which is slightly shorter than Rebel Minis figures.

I have ordered Peter Pig pirates, natives and cowboys before and was afraid that their militia would be just as tiny. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they are a bit closer to the Rebel Minis in height.

I find that a lot of times this cames down to base thickness. I have some Eureka miniatures and they have really thin bases and so end up shorter than other figures.

I still think the idea of "Sahadeen Ewoks" is too cool to pass up!!!

Don't forget CC that the Hardened Militia are newer sculpts. If I remember correctly the AK47 Range USMC are taller and heftier than the Rebel Minis Sahadeen.

The older minis of the AK47 range tend to be slighter in
design.

In the case of the GZG Islamics Eli it's butt and head thickness rather than base ;-)

But someone somewhere loves them.

This is true. I have a Peter Pig USMC guy in my comparison shots. Not sure if I have the Sahadeen and Marine in the same image though and can't look from the office.

"Stick to Rebel Minis and to add further variety go with Peter Pig AK47 range PLO types"

Mark, so are the Peter Pig PLOs as tall as their USMC figures? Or are the PLO ones the same short height as the Hardened Militia?

JRacel, you indicate in some of your photos that the Rebel Minis Fedayeen (not the Sahadeen) are shorter than most of their other figures (even shorter than the Rebel Minis Insurgents, Armed Gunmen and others).

If the Peter Pig PLOs are also short, I wonder if they and the Rebel Minis Fedayeen would mix, which would give those who prefer shorter figures an added option (though that wouldn't be me).

Here ya go . . .

picture

In JRacel's photo, the short figure on the left is a Rebel Minis Fedayeen. It is much shorter than any of the other Rebel Minis figures in this and the other photos, which prompted JRacel to write "Rebel Fedayeen (Note Small Size)" in his caption.

Rebel Minis "Fedayeen"

Short compared to . . .
Rebel Minis "Modern Insurgents"

Rebel Minis "Armed Gunmen"

In fact, it even looks shorter than the Peter Pig USMC figure in that photo.

Hmmm . . .

Come to think of it, the Peter Pig AK-47 Range "Hardened Militia" figures I got look just about as tall as the Fedayeen (well, as tall as the Fedayeen looks in comparison to the others – I don't have any of the Fedayeen).

If that's the case (and please correct me if I'm wrong), then the best figures to supplement the Rebel Minis Sahadeen would have to be the Rebel Minis "Modern Insurgents" and their "Armed Gunmen" (except for the matter of the weapons), right?

Yeah, that would work. The older Gzg sculpts tend to have a chunkier look than Rebel's stuff. I wouldn't mix them. I do like the Islamic figs but use them seperately.

Thanks,

John

Well, while we continue to wait on the Khurasan Non-Jawa Chewks* to fight against the Rebel Minis Sahadeen, check out these cool-looking 12mm tall "Sandrider" guys:

Im hoping GZG will redue their Islamic troops and give them the same due they have to the UNSC and Israeli troops of late.

Cacique Caribe05 Jan 2011 9:18 p.m. PST

That would be awesome! Do you think GZG Jon has plans for that?

Either that or have Rebel Mike expand the Sahadeen range to include figures with this same dynamic style of poses:

I know Jon regularly solicits input from his shoppers. He has hit me up on several occasions after I have made purchases as to what next line I would like to see "redone".

If you are interested in seeing the Keffiyeh Islamic line redone, as I am, I would shoot him an email with your request.

PM sent. Hope he likes the idea.

Update:

Peter Pig has just released Tuareg heads that would be perfect for converting figures into post-apocalyptic or desert planet dwellers:
