Would anyone be interested in a small line of 15mm Islamic Insurgents (say 4-8 poses) that had typical Al Qaida/ Hezbollah type garb and headgear on but with near-future type eye-wear or targeting gear? This could extend there use from the very near future to post apoc or even star wars type sand raiders etc
Any thoughts or input are welcomed. Some picts posted below: picture picture picture picture picture |

no. Let me clarify. I hope they don't get to the point they become "near future". That would be too depressing in regard to the work real people are doing now. |

What are the Sahadeen again? I was pretty sure this was more or less covered (though I'm sure they don't have to be Islamic). |

I was also thinking the closest thing currently available are the Sahadeen from Rebel Miniatures. They are a good fit for the type of setting described or even for Not-Freeman if you plan to do Dune. Link: link Jeff |

or even for Not-Freeman Actually I think Khurasan made the not-Freeman. |

Looks like you just want some sand people. |

I would love some NF figures for a new Turkish Empire with regular Turkish troops in Western equipment and some Irregular Arab Auxillaries that are a mix. |

"What are the Sahadeen again? I was pretty sure this was more or less covered" Im looking more for specifically Arab/Islamically head-dressed sci-fi/ near-future minis like this: link picture picture Whereas the Saheeden are just guys in hoods. Besides, I dont think we need to say, "Okay, we have one desert looking sci-fi figure line. No need to ever make any of those again!" |

Just have to wait until GZG redo their Islamic troops I guess. |

Fingers crossed, I'm hoping Jon does them in '11 Doug. The figures in keffiyehs would pretty much cover my needs exactly! |

If you are thinking forces such as the Afghan or pakistan Taliban the style of dress will be the same as the local culture now/hundred years ago, while the weapons may be the sort of stuff ISAF has now, with the pricey bits stripped out. Consider that a top of the range local fighter will have a 1950's western rifle copy made by Iran or Pakistan, soviet era style flak vest and commercially availible night vision, progress is not that radical. Its already impossible to do traditional Guerrila warfare against a modern army, will you be looking at even more low level violence now firmly ont he level of terrorism rather than the sort of insurgency you see today? Of course fight a developing world army or be equipped by a rvial poor country and you would have more of a fight, so something like hezbullah, however they still suffered a massive loss in personel fighting the Isrealis from a series of pre prepared postions. Actually thinking about it maybe its more of a Chechen style with people with similar training to the enemy and the same basic weapons – so assuming lethal tech starts getting radically cheaper again and not following the trend of ever more expensive solutions. Cheap lasers or rail rifles clearly :) You would still though have the traditional dress modified where nessecery for whatever the common battlefield conditions are (how would it work for a mild NBC threat etc?). |

I like the look and would definitely be interested. I'd just be more interested if they were 28mm. |

Altius, thanks for the input. There is an attempt to get the same thing mentioned above done in 28mm hard plastic here: link |

Uesugi, A) So, how far in the future are you really looking at? B) Are you thinking of figures that could be used as desert-garbed combatants in a future desert Earth environment, regardless of religion or ethnicity? TMP link Dan |
Uesugi Kenshin | 08 Jan 2011 12:42 a.m. PST |
Yes, Earth environment/ based figures. Looking at 20-50+ years in future. Maybe 100+ at outside. |

Update: Peter Pig has just released Tuareg heads that would be perfect for converting figures into post-apocalyptic or desert planet dwellers: TMP link Dan |

Wouldn't a more accurate title for this topic be "Desert Insurgents" given the gear in question? After all, Islamic Insurgents includes Chechens and Bosnians in temperate and cold weather gear while the Sahadeen figures could be used for near future Christian sects fighting in Lebanon or even Western special forces in Afghanistan. My boys and I use the IG Tallarns for 28mm desert world insurgents/irregulars/militia for near future/sci-fi games. Never really thought about their religious affiliation. |
Uesugi Kenshin | 15 Jan 2013 11:16 a.m. PST |
Thanks Dan, I did in fact see those! Those heads are very useful and VERY timely given the current activity in the Central African Republic, Mali, and Somalia! @Wartopia, good question, however if you look at my OP. I was not suggesting the be "Desert" themed. I was suggesting the be "Islamic" in theme meaning traditional islamic dress and headgear but with future weapons. I was in fact mostly thinking of using them (if created) for near-future or sci-fi African nations, which as you stated, includes multiple climates from desert to jungle. More desert themed sci-fi minis would always be welcomed but I'm looking more for someting that says "Islamic" in appearance as opposed to just desert themed. Hope that answers your question. This would be my basic concept I would hope to see put together and expanded on:

The Tuareg heads should work then, Islamic or not. The period you describe is actually our favorite. Our 15mm games are set in a dystopian future about 40 years from now. We could easily use those for the middle east or even "American southwest in chaos". I think the key is not so much the head gear as the clothing. That sort of head gear is even worn by insurgents in central and south America. Use that head gear with "modern dress" bodies and you would have a very versatile product. I would happily buy such figures for middle east types of even Mexican drug lords/war lords overrunning the southern US border in a dystopian near future. |
