I posted some pics of some cheapo Family Dollar and Matchbox vehicles that I converted for use with my 15mm zombie hunters and Sci-fi miniatures. Take a look and let me know what you think. These were a lot of fun to make. mongoswafflehouse.blogspot.com Mongo |

Mongo, Very nice pics! Really love what you did to those cars and trucks: link Question: Do you have any pictures of the vehicles next to 15mm figures? I want to see how those vehicles compare to figures from, let's say, GZG, Rebel Minis and/or Khurasan. Thanks. CC |

U ROCK. Those Kick A$$ in a big way. I'm going to need to have a craft night over at your casa with some Matchbox cars. Envious, Doc |

Ok. I picked up one of these, but have no frame of reference for how tall a person really looks like next to the actual vehicle: picture The mini is 3.5 cm tall and 7.3 cm long. QUESTION: What are is the actual height and length of that vehicle (in real life)? Is there even a real life version of that vehicle? Thanks. CC PS. By the way, these 1/87 Hot Wheels cars look interesting: link |

I had a similar question about scaling. I have some Matchbox/Hot Wheels vehicles and my 15mm all look tiny compared to them. |
Cacique Caribe | 27 Jun 2009 1:16 p.m. PST |
I spent a couple of hours at a Walmart last night, and the only cars that seem to follow a scale relative to eachother seemed to be the Hot Wheels that are clearly labeled as being 1:87. link These are also clearly labeled as being 1:87, and seem to be perfect for 15mm: link link All other Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars are hit or miss. They look like they are not scaled to eachother, and just made to fill the blister. However, the buses, trucks, etc., in those other Hot Wheels and Matchbox blisters seem to be made to a smaller scale than their cars and so some of them seem to fit in well with 15mm. It's best if you take one of your 15mm figures into the store. I took one of my newly arrived and based-on-washer Rebel Minis Sahadeen for comparison. CC PS. For Hummers/Humvees: TMP link |

Good to know. I have a few vehicles purchased for use with 20mm Dark Future games but would love to be able to tap into my existing 15mm stuff for a wider use. |

Look at these that were posted a while back: link TMP link And I guess there are quite a few who don't like the idea of using 1/87 cars with 15mm figures: TMP link CC |

Wait a minute. The truck I was asking about above is the same one Mongo converted: picture picture Wow, Mongo. You ARE indeed a master in conversions! I didn't even realize it was the same vehicle. I also got this other Matchbox, that I plan to either convert as a survivor vehicle or as a ruined vehicle piece: picture link CC |

Well I'm very good
HA, that's ridiculous. I find that matchbox 'cars' are a larger scale and don't look great with the figures. The large vehicles like that armored transport and fire engines and the like are all scaled down harder so they look nice with the Rebel Minis I think. I agree, keep a tiny man in your pocket at all times! Sure people will think you're "off", but you have scale comparisons to make! CC, I have like 5 or 6 of those transports this one is another one of those: picture Hopefully I'll get a post up tommorrow of some of my rebel minis stuff with the vehicles. Mongo |

Speaking of tiny men in pockets, isn't there a company that sells a "mini meter" sort of tool to keep with you. It's a little ruler for helping you scale objects with common miniatures scales. -Eli |

I will sometimes hold a dime up against a vehicle, since a US dime is 18mm across. That at least gives one a rough idea if you don't have a fig with you. |

How's this? Walmart has it for $3.97 USD picture link I know it says it is 1/64, but it is really 3.5 cm tall and 9 cm long: link auction auction Are those dimensions too massive for 15-18mm gaming figures? This forum discussion implies that there might be a 1/87 model of that "Battle Rig": link This picture has the two "Battle Machines" "Battle Rigs" top center: picture link CC |

That transport thing is a Matchbox V16 Desert Thunder. They're fairly common, you can find them in individual blister packs or as part of various 5-packs. Love those things. |

The Desert Thunder may be modelled on Dakar trucks, even if it isn't a specific rig. I have at least one but I assumed an enemy that also drove, and had automatic and heavy weapons when I started customising it. |
