We're trying the Editor Gwen route more often, it seems to be an improvement over tossing people into the Dawghouse over and over again.

People seem to find it easier to talk to Editor Gwen about their forum behavior problems.

I hope emails aren't stalled in limbo, due to connectivity issues. That was apparently a big part of the delay and confusion with me.

A DH might have been preferable, as it wouldn't have lasted 31 days.

That is a good point, Dan's long absence seems to be simply down to Editor Gwen and Dan not being able to communicate to due to technical issues, leading to a much longer exclusion than necessary or usually expected. Hopefully that is not going to be the normal way this works.

That and the fact that I wasn't able to reply to any of Gwen's PMs. It would allow me to write out a reply, and it would look as if my replies were being sent, but PM replies by people who are locked out really go nowhere at all. They will never reach the person you are replying to.

It was about a week before I discovered that, and that email was really the only option available.

Anyway, whatever the issues, we need Otto back.

How would you know? I understand they had a fairly lengthy discussion about the issues.

Dan has said that was a problem and I believe Editor Gwen mentioned it as well at some point during the discussions about Dan's enforced absence.

I do remember other members at the time stating that Dan wasn't able to contact Editor Gwen due to technical issues.

So I would know purely from what others (Dan included) has said on the subject.

I see above that he wasn't able to answer her PM's for about a week, before he switched to emails….so maybe I should have wrote that his absence was extended by technical issues.

I've no knowledge and no real interest (or business for that matter) in knowing the ins and outs of their discussion……I'm just glad we got Dan back since he has a tendency to post some good stuff he's had an idea about.

My account was locked on Oct 1. Gwen sends 2 PMs on the 4th to inform me of it.

My account is unlocked on morning of Oct 31. I receive notification of it evening of Nov 02.

I hope there are less technical or email issues with Otto.

I think that covers what I was saying, technical issues seem to have extended Dan's absence. So hopefully that will be reduced in Otto's case……..I've no idea what Otto did of course, since there is apparently no info on what caused the temporary lockout.

There are some on the Enemy Site who seem to think that Bill is slowly but surely purging TMP of those whose political stance Dear Editor is not in agreement with. "Soon TMP will only have sympatico clones of his right wing blah blah blah!"

Banning Otto would seem to contradict that.

I prefer the Good Old Days when Bill would simply DH the perp, and he would come out and sin again.
It was certainly more entertaining for the audience.

Dan's experience would seem to indicate that the new system isn't very efficient.

I too miss Otto. He's always good for a laugh.

Plus here and elsewhere some things and some people will never change. I guess there is something to be said about consistency …

And I am saying that there was also an extended discussion between Gwen and Cacique Caribe, and that was also a reason for the delay.

Gwen and I did finally establish somewhat regular communications after the 18th day, though there were still a couple of long waits even during the final 12 days (more email issues, perhaps?). Then on the 31st I was suddenly back.

Let's just hope things go a lot smoother with Otto and any others who get temporary lock outs. The first thing they need to know is that any PM they send out goes nowhere, so communication with any Editors will have to be done via email. That alone wasted a whole week and only added to the confusion.

Otto is moving, and his computer may be packed up. He's never this silent ….

Or the email went to spam, or simply never got there for some other reason. Or HE might have already replied to Gwen, and it went to Gwen's spam folder.

Just spoke with Otto. He hasn't received any emails from Gwen. Apparently, she's not on his email list, and her email obviously went to spam…

Yeah, this new system clearly needs a little more rethinking. And how many days passed, equivalent to how many DHs sentences?

Maybe it's my pain meds talking, but I think a pardoning of Otto should be the next logical step, for whatever the "crime" or "fact-finding" reason there was behind his lockout. It has already gone way past the length of any DH.

Interesting …

I had a few days of silence, I emailed Gwen regularly but no reply so I chatted direct with Bill, who resolved the (non) issue. Gwen was getting my emails but hers weren't getting through to me and nothing in spam

My account was temporarily locked, I was unable (as we know) to reply to Gwen's message.
I received no email but managed to find the email for the editor which is right at the bottom of the home page if you click on Bill's name.
I emailed and my account was unlocked – I still have no idea why it was locked in the first place, no explanation was given.

So… Gwen is failing…?

Maybe she has some personal problem…?

Would be good to know…

So is there a solution to this "gone missing" TMP members dilemma, meaning the long return gauntlet following a "lockout"? Will we see Otto, Hafen and others come back soon, so that they may continue to add to the rich information and jocularity milieu that is TMP?

Unverified email addresses doesn't seem to hamper anyone else here. I see tons of those accounts around and posting all the time.

Wait, now I'm forgetting the point I was trying to make. Lol. Oh dear.

Hey, did I tell you guys about my brand new scar? My wife had to take the picture, seeing as how it runs 7 or 8 inches long, from the mid-back down to my waist. But it looks absolutely gorgeous! It's right on top of 5 previous scars in the same place, more or less. That surgeon should really consider taking up leather upholstery as a hobby when he retires.

Otto is apparently not talking to Gwen. His stated intentions and unkind comments (in other venues) about TMP, its editors and contributors have made it clear that he does not wish to return, in spite of the fact that he still drops by occasionally.

Of course, his previous self-imposed exile ended voluntarily, so there remains the possibility that this one will, also.

No, Otto and I are not even really acquaintances, although we met briefly at Fall-In some years ago. We have occasionally "conversed" (in a digital sort of way) both here and on his "Society of Daisy" Yahoo Group.

I belong to a forum where if you are dawghoused three times in a given year you are done. Knowing you could be kicked out permanently may reduce offensive behavior.

At least the DH is for breaking actual rules. And, as was mentioned, for a finite number of days.
