I've been using these to paint horses going on 20 years now. Great coverage and flexible as the paint is produced to be use by Professional Animators.

Well I haven't picked up a paint brush in 9 months with the exception being to brush prime some figures and horses with Humbrol Flat Black enamel. Last weekend I found time to paint and pulled out some horses to work on and my trusty favorite Cel Vinyl colors and low and behold after 20 some odd years of service, they've finally dried up on me.

It's not often lately, because of work and family issues, that I've had time, energy, and been in the mood to paint.
I thought this was a sign to possibly move away from the hobby, that I've loved for 40 some years. So after much thought I came to this decision.

TIME TO PLACE AN ORDER AND GET MY BUT IN GEAR!!

So hopefully in the next few months I'll be back to posting some of my work here on TMP, and few other locations.

Hi John,

I'm sorry to hear you have been having a tough time of late but I am glad to hear you will be painting again. I find your work truly inspirational and I look forward to seeing more of it in the future.

So yes, it is time to get your butt in gear and get those brushes working again.

Best wishes

Stephen

Hmm, hadn't heard of that medium before. Very interesting…..

These are probably the best base coat paints I've ever used. Amazing amount of pigment, along with a good solid carrier. cartooncolor.com/index.php

Welcome back, VonBlucher! Show off your stuff when you get it finished.

I keep thinking about picking up some of those cell-vinyls. Some of the guys around here swear by them.

Nothing worse than an out of gear noun! ;-)

Stephen,
Thanks, yes it's time for me to get it going again.

Daryl,
Here is some of my work on TMP as you can see it's been awhile since I've posted anything. They are some of the best paints I've ever used and that it took 20 years for them to finally dry up is a testament to their quality. I only paint the horses with Cel Vinyl as I am able to blend the colors on them. I've bent horses legs that are painted and because the paint is flexible, you can bend them back with out the paint cracking.

miniMo,
As Grunt1861 stated great paints. I personally only use them for painting horse flesh, but I've been using them for over 20 years. The best part of using them is coverage, they cover any color with one coat and I black prime my figures. Another great part of them is you can blend with them as you have some time before they dry completely.
They also can be mixed with most other acrylics paints out there.

Martin,
Thanks it's tough when it goes out of gear.

Gorgeous stuff, VonBlucher. I like your painting style very much. And those horses are awe-inspiring!

oooh, I will have to try some of those out!

when i looked at the first couple of photos i thought ' very nicely painted 28mm miniatures" and then someone asked if they were 18mm AB models and my jaw hit the floor . now i think "exceptionally nicely painted 18mm miniatures" !

but i wonder how much of that is due to the paint and how much to the painter ?
would they really look that different painted with Vallejo etc. ?
or are the cel paints just that much easier to work with ?

VonBlucher27 Nov 2014 10:13 a.m. PST

Peter, thanks for the encouragement, I think work has sucked the life out of me since January.

ernieR, I use these on my horses only. Because they're easier to blend with. I use to use artists oils, then high ends artists tube acrylics, and I had heard about these from a good friend 20 some years ago. Their color range mimics artist tube acrylics somewhat but not totally.
I use Vallejo, and other assorted paints for everything else. So for the horses, no paint comes close to these for ease of use, coverage, and durability. I never dulcoat the horses as they have a nice satin sheen to them from the paint

Fascinated by these paints, as I'd never heard of them before. Does anyone know if they are sold in the UK?

Discussed before on purchasing in the UK.
