We have some great painters starting to put up their Work in Progress images for the latest competition. I'm working on 2 entries: The first is the command stand for Davout's 3rd Corp for 1806-07 The second will be Prussian King & Bruswick's command stand for Auerstadt 1806 Below is a teaser for Davout's Command stand.

In Case your interested, I've posted images of the figure I'll be using for Davout. I just need to create his glasses in wire. John |

I'll be posting an update to this at the La Bricole forum competition in the next few days with the ground work completed.
So keep an eye out as all entries must be completed by the end of September. John |

Really like the work you have done so far. The shading on the horses in particular, makes for a very realistic looking group. |

Ashenduke, thanks!! I've been slowly getting better on the horses since I've come back to Napoleonics a year and a half ago, after a 15 year absence. Next up for me after this base is completed is a King of Prussia command stand for Auerstadt. Also keep an eye out on the La Bricole forum as everyone will be starting to post up more WIP shots soon. Looking great John, all are sweet but man your horses come out great! |

John, Excellently done! You will no doubt do very well in the painting competition. Compared to my work, you'd win hands down! Below is a photo of the same figure you are calling Devout. I called mine Soult. Also are some of my AB French Generals. Mine look pitiful after seeing yours.

Paul, Thanks again, and the horses just seem to get easier for me to paint. John, Thanks, and I wouldn't throw those away, as I think you did a fine job on them. Heck,I'm even using the same horse also. The only reason, I used this figure instead of the actual Davout figure is I really don't like it. I still have his glasses to produce though. John |

Great sculpting by AB and great painting as well. |
VonBlucher | 22 Aug 2012 5:09 a.m. PST |
Pilum40, I agree John, did a nice job on these and he should be proud of them. von Winterfeldt, thanks and you're right it's allot easier with a well sculpted figure to paint up. Maxshadow, I'd show you one, but I have 2 pairs on the floor of my workroom that I can't find and the 3rd pair I broke trying to make them a little smaller. The 3rd pair I placed on the figure and he ended up looking like Elston John from the movie Tommy. Here's how I'm doing it. I've pushed into a block of wood two thin pins at a distance between each other equal to the center of the figures eyes. I've wraped very fine copper wire over both pins, coming under neath both and pulling them back up in the center, almost like a pretzel. I then cut them with an exacto knife where they meet the top wire. At that point you do a test fit, paint, and tack. My problem was I think my pins were to big so I've gone to thinner pins. So my goal is to finish these prior to the last posting date as I still have the King of Prussia's command stand to work on. John |

An update to the Prussian Command base. I still need to paint the King's horse and he will be placed in the center of the base. I need to work on my image capturing though, so bear with me till I finish, and I'll post a better set of images when completed. :( John
