I've been working on another project for a few months. But prior to that I finished off a command and a line officer for the French.

I recently finished off 4 figures and finally based my Guard Chasseurs that I started over 10 years ago.
Not a full regiment, but 2 squadrons, each of 12 figures.

Last for those that may think that I have forgotten my Prussians, here my test figure for the 5th (Queen's) Dragoons that I painted back in the fall.

First the Line Officer.
I haven't finished his base yet as I'm unsure if I want to mount him as part of the unit or on his own.

French Brigade Command.

Chasseurs a Cheval of the Guard

Like I said above most of these were painted over 10 years ago and have been enjoying a restful slumber in a box. Now if you remember the command base I did of General Lefebvre-Desnoettes, there was a method to my madness.

Finally my test figure for the Queen's Dragoons

Not my best imaging capturing, but thanks for looking anyway.

John, those are all super figures, and you've certainly done them justice. The horses look particularly good. The Queen's Dragoon looks really top notch in particular.

timmmy29 Mar 2013 1:45 p.m. PST

Very nice ! :)

Very very nice, and someday soon I might kill (well OK maybe short of that) for a Queen Luise figure in 15mm scale.

Gonsalvo29 Mar 2013 3:31 p.m. PST

Great looking figures, John!

Hi John,
Good to see you back doing your Naps!!!

The all look excellent and the Prussian dragoons stands out as he is superb, if I didn't know the AB figures I wouldn't know what scale he was. I like the round bases you are using for your command bases to.
Cheers
Paul

Littlearmies and Tim, Thank you both for your responses. Horses have always been easy for me to paint, it's the riders that give me fits. :-)

14Bore, I agree on the Queen. It would be great to either have her in a carriage or riding sidesaddle.

Peter, thank you for your response as usual.

baxterj, it figures that you would notice the only conversion in the group of Guard Chasseurs. I wasn't even going to point that one out.

Tracy, thanks and I just sent you a reply to your email earlier.

Paul, my good friend thanks, and that Queen's Dragoon is a one piece casting, the only one AB produced for the early Prussian Dragoons.
The round bases, I use 3 different sizes, for Brigade, Division, and for Corp/Wing/Army.

Well back to my other project for now.

I really like the "raggedy" lines of the Garde Chasseurs (viewed from the flank) – too many wargamers don't factor this into charging units of cavalry.

VonBlucher30 Mar 2013 5:23 p.m. PST

Supercilius Maximus,
Thanks and I totally agree with you on that. As I changed to a different set of rules (GdB) when I came back to Naps 2 years ago. I went with deeper bases as I rebased my mounted troops. All my mounted troops before had that look of being totally straight in line charging.

When you see them painted up like this AB are truly magnificent, oh to be starting out again, this is inspirational stuff.

Fantastic painting on equally fantastic miniatures. The basing is very nice too.

VonBlucher05 Apr 2013 5:18 a.m. PST

John B.
I will get an email off to you later. Thanks

Kawe,
Thank you, I love your new piece for your line that you've posted.

Rafa,
The colors I use are by Cartoon Colors Cel Vinyl.
All my brown tones for the horses are achieved using the following colors by them. Raw Umber, Burnt Sienna, Ochre, and Light Brown.

All the horses with the exception of the Prussian Dragoon are a combination of Raw Umber, Burnt Sienna, and a little Ochre added to the mix for the highlights. I vary the mix to achieve either a reddish or chestnut brown coloring.

The Dragoons horse is Raw Umber, Light Brown, and a vey small amount of ochre for the highlights.

Hope that helps, I can give a more in depth if you want, just let me know.
