Trying my hand at 15mm for the first time. These are Rebel Minis Earth Force and they'll be used with Gruntz here in the near future.

Those are very nice. I quite like the contrasting colors and the color of the visors.

What do you have planned for the bases? Gruntz is a lot of fun, do you have a unit card made up yet?

Good luck and welcome!

Thank you for the kind words. I'm still undecided on the bases, but I've been looking at a lot of examples on line.

Haven't even got to the unit cards yet or played a game, although I hope to tomorrow. I've been looking at other's creations on the Gruntz forum to get some ideas.

Yeah agreed, a great job for your first time, nice colour choice to.

Rebel Minis Earth Force were my first 15mm, too. I also play Gruntz with them.

They look great.

Very nice pj on those. Don't know whether it's my PC or the photos but the visors look unpainted.

They must be some kind of "gateway" figure for 15mm sci-fi.My firsties too.

Cyclopeus22 Jun 2013 6:18 a.m. PST

Those look great. What scale are you coming from, and how do you like/dislike 15mm in comparison?

Crankee Doodle22 Jun 2013 7:23 a.m. PST

Thanks all for the nice comments.

@Cyclopeus: Until now, I was strictly a 28mm painter.

I like the 15's as they are faster to paint. Essentially I just hit the main parts and didn't go crazy with the detail. However my first batch turned out too dark as they were painted with a light green and dark green vac-suit. Then I read somewhere that with smaller scales, it would be better to paint them with two contrasting colors, so that's what I did here.

Cost and size are also a nice bonus. More models on the board and I can play in a smaller area.

The only downside with this scale from my point of view is that they are small. Other than having to take off my glasses to paint them, it wasn't a problem though.

@Dwartist: The visors are painted, they look a bit washed out to me from the flash. They were done in a grey and then highlighted one up.

Nicely done! I love the non-metallic visors and weapons.

91Bravo: "However my first batch turned out too dark"

I'm thinking I should have primed mine with white or tan, instead of the black primer I always used when I was doing 28s:

I'm thinking I should have primed mine with white or tan, instead of the black primer I always used when I was doing 28s.

I've always done black with 28's myself. I went with white this time as I was worried about how dark they would look after painting and a wash. I think I made the right decision and would recommend it to anyone.

TheRatGod22 Jun 2013 9:25 p.m. PST

i heard most of the golden deamon winners prime white as it makes the colors show up and pop more so than it will with black primer

Cacique Caribe22 Jun 2013 10:13 p.m. PST

I was afraid of that.

Well, I hope I can fix mine somehow, without losing too much detail in the recesses. It would have to be an extremely light spray, I think.

Thanks,

Dan

Just highlight with lighter colours, I always use black on 20mm or smaller and white on 25mm and larger.

I usually prime gray…
