I know there was a lot of talk a while back (last discussion was back in April):

But has anyone started doing 15mm ground combat of humans vs Chigs yet? If so, I would love to hear all about it. What figures did you use? What rules? Got pics?

I've been gathering the miniatures for the humans but haven't gotten to the Chigs yet. Rebel Minis is pretty much it for the Earth Forces, and I know that there is a good range out there for Chigs. Unfortunately I've forgotten who it was that had them.

So for me S:AAB is still on the back-burner until I'm finished with my Aliens/USCM/Liberty collections and my Ancients/Swords of Blade and Heros warbands with my son. I'll probably start S:AAB in January. I don't plan to kick off a new project until I've cleared my current painting docket.

Rules wise? Any one have suggestions? I'm leaning toward Tomorrow's War for largish actions and Chain Reaction for very small 58th Squadron based skirmishes.

Here's a Chain Reaction question. If you played S:AAB with the 58th Squadron would you play the whole group of them as Rep 5 Stars with all the fixings? On the one hand that seems right and natural as they were THE stars of the show. But on the other hand that seems like over kill! What do you think?

Tgunner08 Aug 2011 6:35 a.m. PST

I just looked over you links Dan. The "Plutonian Avenger" look pretty good with their organic looking weapons. That might be the route I go when I kick my S:AAB project off. Thank's for re-linking these old threads. It would have taken me a long time to find them!

TGunner,

You are very welcome.

As for the Plutonians, I just hope they are tall enough to look impressive next to the humans:

I WOULD REALLY LOVE THIS LOOK:

Just add a helmet and there ya go!

Dan
PS. GZG should make them and just call them heavy Crusties.

Tgunner08 Aug 2011 11:14 a.m. PST

Pretty cool. They look more like chiggers than the chigs in the show did. I think I would rather have them!

Mako1108 Aug 2011 12:10 p.m. PST

I would if we had some proper Chigs.

The Plutonians might just do in a pinch.

Earth Force Marines would work great for the humans.

Combat Wombat's Bullfrog lander as the humans dropship.

Tgunner08 Aug 2011 3:03 p.m. PST

Rebel Minis has a dropship that has a passing resemblance to the ISSCV. Might be a bit small though.

Tgunner,

This one?

If so, it does look nice!!!

That's it. Very S:AABerish.

Conversion Candidates . . .

If I could 1) figure out what heads to put on these, and 2) put some sort of "shell" over the front of their weapons, these Protolene guys might work for me:

At least the armor looks alien enough. And their height is pretty descent, from what I've seen in comparison photos. Wouldn't want my Chigs to look puny.

link

The feet are another problem though:

The CMG Drop Troopers are the perfect height but, aside from the head conversion, the weapons are a bit too bulky to hide with a handle "shell".

Any other candidates out there for conversions?

It would probably be inappropriate to make all of them Stars, but the Rep 5 is fine. If you're interested in survivability you could always give them all the Hard as Nails attribute.

Kampfgruppe Cottrell08 Aug 2011 8:18 p.m. PST

I'd do it in 28mm in a heart beat!

Loved that show,
Brian

Chigs figures will be a problem to find for any 15mm games set in the Space above and beyond universe, but i quite like the proxies that cacique carbie has posted up, who are they produced by ?

SheriffLee09 Aug 2011 9:36 a.m. PST

Chigs for me would be link
