I'm sure you must have one, or two, or three.

1) So, which ones and why those?

2) What color schemes have you used on them?

3) MOST importantly, in what sort of games are you using them?

Big fan of Highlander's space bugs. Khurasan's mantis stalkers and ogre beetle are nice too.

I suppose sponks aren't bugs as such. :)

Khurasan's Mantid Stalkers. Thinking I will use them as shock troops for my Alien Legion-style force.

Scorpio,

What colors are you planning to use?

Any metallic* tones?

I like most of the bugs out there, but for the moment, my favorite are the Highlander's Space Bugs I have that are painted up in a Communist paint scheme (painted by Chief Lackey Rich). They have a nice light hearted look to them that makes them a little less Hard SciFi and more Pulp, but that does not matter when a swarm of a couple hundred over run an enemy position.

Looking forward to the Stikks from Khurasan.

1) Spriggan Miniatures SPUGs with Khurasan Mantis Stalkers as support.
2) Brown or orange-tan-brown – as space cockroaches!
3) Send them off for a GRUNTZ game against the Stan Johansen Minis Draco Infantry – Lizards vs. Cockroaches!

The Space Demons are my favorite hive mind critters, and the Spugs are my favorite smart bugs. I do want to try out some of the Highlander Studios bugs, especially since Rod is continuing to expand them. And I want to pick up some GZG Ixx one of these days.

@Golan2072 – What about the Zombiesmith Aphids as support for the Stan Johansen Draco? They'd make for some cheap cannon fodder.

I've always wondered that those praying mantises would look like with a proper paint job. Lime green with a brown wash is not doing them any favours.

If strictly buglike I'd say the Khurusan wasps. Their upcoming bugmen (the ones with the centipede tank) will make for very nice civilised bug forces indeed. Not a fan of the Highlander bugs they are a bit crude as sculpts. The Spuggs are slightly cute and I don't really go for cute as a serious combat force. That was the same issue I had with the drantaks in 28mm although that was a pretty well-supported range.

I only did a basic job with my Mantids, simpler, comic book colors. Will try to grab picks tomorrow. But I note that, when painting them, I noted they have nice subtle details that a quality painter (unlike myself) could really work with.

I'd forgotten those, definitely worthy of mention. They're a bit of a pain to assemble (by 15mm standards) but that also makes them more poseable, which stretches the sculpt variety some.

And maybe some of Brigade's Cymexians for vehicular support.

For insectoids i would have to say SPUG's, and im sure im not the only one that hopes that this small range will grow this year….

I want to believe, but I've been crossing my fingers for more Spugs for over 3 years now:

The color of bugs:

The effect you see is light reflecting off different layers and interfering with itself. It is called Iridescence. We live in a time when human can manufacture nano-particles so, you can have Iridescent paint:

Now, if a bug was as large as a human, you most likely would not see this, but what the heck. I have no idea how good of paint this is? Just a little find along the way.

"Now, if a bug was as large as a human, you most likely would not see this, but what the heck."

Well, that just means that 15mm tall humans wouldn't see it. But the wargaming players would, right? :)
