For your Jaffa or other explorers:

Terrain too simplistic (predictable, symmetrical) for a fun game? A buddy tells me it looks more like the layout of a spaceship than that of a tomb.

Of course, it wouldn't be done in cross-section:

Instead, it would have to be open on top:

Depends on what jumps out at them from the rooms.

Maybe reduce the number of side rooms.

Lion in the Stars22 May 2011 8:31 p.m. PST

Yeah, there are a lot of side rooms, but that's not a bad layout. I've certainly gamed similar!

No looks like the real things – you could have side rooms open up into larger chambers – add in some pits/trap doors or things dropping from the ceiling etc It should beep your players alert and in a ways is a tribute to old D and D games. INHO would make a good demo game to get D and D players into Pulp

Hi Dan,

have a look at what I presented 5 years ago.

dadiepiombo.com/dc06d.html

As you an see the tomb is pretty simple but the explorers had to solve some simple riddles ti open the doors, and each room hide a surprise (falling boulders, swarms of scarabs, ancient corruption gases). The best part was at the end of the adventure – well, the players thought so – when the explorers found the treasure. Of course the tomb began to rumble, and the ceiling to fall… and when they ran back to the entry, every room belched skeleton guards and mummies… a very nasty surprise!
So, no matter as simple is the tomb, is the plot that make the difference!

Just my 2 cents,
Marco

Marco,

That's amazing!!! I can't wait to try it now.

Thanks so much for that.

It depends on how you want to use it really. It this going to be a "alien" type adventure, with the players moving around while the horrid mummy stalks them from the shadows? Then it's too simplistic and will be boring. Unless of course you add a whole set of secret passages. Then that might work really well (make sure you have multiple sets of passages, so that even if the players find a secret passage, it doesn't reveal all of them).

But if it's a "Indiana Jones" style tomb with traps and puzzals it's going to be too big, and needs to be more simplistic.

Also, are you going to have KV5 be as it was originally created or as it was first found? When they found it, it was so full of debri and sand that they thought it only went back 50 feet, and they thought that for what, 70years?

I studied the KV5 tomb myself for use in a game. It's a intriguing site, but between the elevation changes, damage, debri, I ended up doing a more maze like, but less complex tomb. Great place to get ideas from though. It really is the only tomb they have found in Egypt that is like the tombs you see in movies and pulp stories.

Got any pics? I'd love to see what you did.
