Hi Just in case you haven't seen the pics elsewhere on TMP – here are some photos of Piotr's 15mm (sic) Sci Fi Simian Troopers on Dropship Horizon. link Cheers Mark |
Lampyridae | 30 Nov 2009 3:37 a.m. PST |
They look pretty wicked. Also compatible with 20mm as human-sized apes, too
|
Moonbeast | 30 Nov 2009 5:40 a.m. PST |
Damn
I have too many alien forces/mercs already! I'll have to add them to the list.:) |
John Leahy | 30 Nov 2009 7:03 a.m. PST |
Wow! Those are cool. Maybe a little too large? Thanks, John |
Pole Bitwy PL | 30 Nov 2009 7:34 a.m. PST |
John, they are supposed to be upright walking evolved space faring gorillas that tower over puny humans ;) Actually if we took an adult male gorilla and stretched its limbs out to simulate an upright pose, I expect we would have similar size ratio. |
the evil morlab | 30 Nov 2009 7:36 a.m. PST |
WAY too big, they will look like 25s on a 15mm table, because that is what they are. i'd never use them in 15mm gaming. not crazy about the designs or sculpting but i do think it is great that you responded to tmp requests for models so cheers for that |

If they 6mm-10mm I'd get some of them !!! |
28mmMan | 30 Nov 2009 9:52 a.m. PST |
Good effort
as for size
well if something is bigger than a man it will be bigger when compared to a man. They look like simian troopers to me. |
the evil morlab | 30 Nov 2009 10:08 a.m. PST |
only thing i was saying about size (i will not speak for john leahy) is that they are the size of 25s so they will look like 25s on the table. although come to think of it i don't think their proportions are right for a 15 of that height. think about how massive a creature that size would have to be to stand upright. the limbs would need to be like tree trunks. those ankles would snap like tinderwood. oh well vive la difference i hope they sell a lot of them

They're running from "Gorrilas in their midst" LOL I made a punny. |

Planet of the Apes wargames. Wooooo! |
Pole Bitwy PL | 30 Nov 2009 10:52 a.m. PST |
Thanks guys ! We do hope to sell a metric tonne of them ;) What kinds of squad / heavy support and mounts would you like to see for the Simians ? picture |
28mmMan | 30 Nov 2009 1:08 p.m. PST |
Depends on the fluff you are going with for your Simians. My first thought was a fast assault sled picture Maybe a sonic weapon? Big mouthed stun gun. If the Simians are slave collectors then you could work in convict style human troops with mind control modules
perhaps the ever popular explosive collars like the old GW convict troops. If you are going with the Gorilla Grodd type link I could see the slave troops. picture |
Ambush Alley Games | 30 Nov 2009 6:09 p.m. PST |
For squad support weapons, I'd give them a big auto grenade launcher that can be fired from the shoulder and big bore MG that they can muscle around like a SAW. |
Ivan DBA | 30 Nov 2009 7:45 p.m. PST |
They are NOT too big. Nor are they "as big as 25mm figures." Look again at the photo with two of them, and a couple unarmed humans running away. They are more like the same size as 1/72 figures, which seems just about right if they are representing bio-engineered giant apes! |
MiniatureReview | 30 Nov 2009 7:51 p.m. PST |
Piotr's those figures are awesome. They don't look too big to me, although I would probably want to see a few up close and snap some pictures of them. :) |
Dragon Gunner | 30 Nov 2009 7:52 p.m. PST |
Brutes for a Halo Covenant army. |
Cyrus the Great | 30 Nov 2009 8:23 p.m. PST |
Wow! That was quick. I wonder where CC is? I can't wait to read his reaction. |
Cacique Caribe | 30 Nov 2009 10:07 p.m. PST |
Hey guys. In and out of doctors' office these last few days. Piotr, those look awesome. Quick turnaround too. And, at around 22mm in height on average, they are perfect as future evolved apes hunting down puny humans in the deserts and half sunken cities. Now, where did I put those pain pills. Oh yeah. Did I ever tell you guys the story about the chimp doctor . . . link Dan link link |
Legion 4 | 01 Dec 2009 10:50 a.m. PST |
Well like I said, if you mak'm 6-10mm my crew on Tac Cmd will get a bunch !! |
Pole Bitwy PL | 01 Dec 2009 11:21 a.m. PST |
More pictures of the Simians as requested. polebitwy.pl/wip/15mm/simians1 What do you say about funny Simian poses like head scratching while operating a terminal / comm console or would you prefer your space gorillas strictly professional ? Legion: 6mm scale is not ruled out. I'll ask the sculptor
|
Darwin Green | 01 Dec 2009 11:57 a.m. PST |
for weapons, i'd say any sort of large barreled weapons would be great. big beefy multi-barreled RPGs, Gatling-guns and maybe a net-launcher or some sort. as far as vehicles are concerned, I don't really see them in grav vehicles. I can imagine them riding big bulky(and heavily armored) ATVs with really gnarly tires. Kinda like the Brute Chopper from Halo 3. picture though don't forget the possibility of power armor. picture the Karmans from At-43 not to forget mecha-apes either. picture |
Ambush Alley Games | 01 Dec 2009 7:35 p.m. PST |
Yeah, Darwin, I agree about the guns – big bore guns that that would put a mere human on his posterior! |
Legion 4 | 01 Dec 2009 9:28 p.m. PST |
That sounds great Pole ! I'll make sure to keep the boyz on Tac Cmd & 6mmSFWG sites informed if they go 6mm. As I said 6-10mm is fine. They are apes after all, and Epic Ogryn are about 10mm tall. They are abhumans so they are a little bigger then your average Human ! So the evolved Apes could be that big too
Either way 6-10mm is good ! Thanks !! |

For your viewing pleasure some early sketches from the next batches of Simians: picture picture and the earlier one: picture 28mmMan: I like the idea of slave traders
A packet of whip and electric shock stick wielding Simians could be useful

Piotr, Have you ever had a chance and read the Forstchen Lost Regiment Series? The last one that was written is an almost stand-alone story, that is supposed to take place twenty years after the previous book. link It has large, technologically advanced (compared to surrounding nations), simian-like creatures that enslave, and feed on, the human population on that planet (Valennia). Here's a physical description of the race, as established in the first book of the series, where they only had medieval tech (a tribe called The Tugars, who rode massive horses): "The Tugars are biologically very close to humans, and can contract some of the same diseases. They evolved on another world and resemble humans due to convergent evolution. They spread from world to world by "tunnels of light", which are wormholes their ancestors built. They are proportioned like humans, but are eight- to ten-feet (2.4–3.0 m) tall. Their bodies and faces are covered with short hair and they have large canine teeth. They have apelike faces, but their bodies are Herculean in build and of handsome appearance. They ride horses of very large breed due to their stature." link TMP link The previous books in the Lost Regiment series has the humans as having the technological upper hand (the creatures are medieval, while the regiment is ACW), until they run across the WAY more advanced nation in Down To The Sea. "It's revealed that the Tugars are a fallen race that once had a great interstellar civilization. The Tugars no longer understand how their ancestors invented the "tunnels of light", of which Earth seems to have several that operate sporadically, one Tugar in the series jokes to a human that he will show him the location of one, 'for a price.'" link In fact, you could read Down To The Sea by itself, since it does a quick recap of what happened two decades before, but focuses on the overwhelming odds faced by humans when they encounter the more advanced nation of those creatures. The Terran Empire has no shame to its game when it comes to dealing with the enemies of the Pax Imperialis. Whether human, extraterrestrial, or genetically engineered, the loyal legions of Her Imperial Terran Majesty will continue to keep the barbarians from the gates of The Ten Million Worlds. What you are presenting are in fact the loyal and renowned 101st Silverback Legion, genetically engineered elite assault troops of Her Imperial Terran Majesty, stalwart defenders of all of Her Majesty's loyal Terran citizens, human, extraterrestrial, and engineered alike! Now quit yer dithering and give those apes some more hardware! picture
Ape-sized troopers deserve ape-sized support systems!

Leland, we would love to have the castings faster, but the queue is long and we still are waiting for a response from another local caster. Once we get it, we need to test him with something easier to reproduce if the green gets destroyed as we have heard from their customers
What would The Collective say to smaller unarmed and shock, horror stark naked gorillas, that could be untested young males ? Of course in 15mm ;) |
Cacique Caribe | 04 Dec 2009 11:38 a.m. PST |
Piotr, Don't worry. Leland always wants instant gratification! :) Dan PS. Smaller gorillas would be awesome! |

The sculpts ARE awesome! However, when I looked at the pics showing humans side by side I am even more convinced that they are too large. They look to be 9-10 feet tall. Their body proportions are huge compared to the human. If these were Alien Simian types I guess it would work for me. But Earth evolved apes (ala POA) I don't think I'd believe. Before I get screamed down, I agree they ARE exteremly nice sculpts. This is just MY perception. I hope you sell tons of them. Thanks, John |
Legion 4 | 14 Feb 2010 7:55 a.m. PST |
I'm just hoping they are made around 6-10 mm too
