1) IF you had to choose ONE of the 5 illustrations here as your favorite basic Chupacabra body type, which would it be? picture Left to right: a) Humanoid/Grey with tiny bat wings; b) Alien "dog"; c) Humanoid reptilian; d) Alien "baboon"; or e) Alien "kangaroo" 2) And, most importantly, WHY did you choose that one basic body type? Thanks. CC TMP link TMP link TMP link TMP link |

I'll pick (A). Why? Well, that would be because that is what el chupacabri look like. Geeeez, everyone knows that. : ) |
Volstagg Vanir | 04 Oct 2009 8:44 p.m. PST |
I like the Spines of B, the head & arms of D and the legs of E C is right out: It's basically a Goblin Ditto A; it's basically a Gargoyle. I like this image about the best: picture So, I guess 'Alien Baboon' is closest , but I really like the distended Kangaroo feet
.and Spines
And I admit the idea of a Rabidly Carnivorous, Poison-Spined Marsupial tickles me Pinko

Volstagg, I absolutely love that photo! And it definitely goes well with the basic body type represented by D (the alien "baboon"). link CC PS. Quite a few witnesses in PR describe what seem to be escaped Baboons or Macaques: picture link |

Actually Chupacabras might be the result of a contagious disease that can jump species. |

I think I like A but V's baboon comes in a very close second. Brian |

A cross between B and D
mostly because I don't like the spikey snout on D. Volstagg's linked image is best of all. |
Gokiburi | 05 Oct 2009 1:54 a.m. PST |
If I absolutely must choose, "B" gets the nod, but I'd prefer the body-type of "D" with the spines of "B" something like my favorite depiction of the creature: link Although Volstagg's image is probably closer to most descriptions of the "real thing" |
Norman D Landings | 05 Oct 2009 2:36 a.m. PST |
I'd go for B – canine template – because that's what all the early reports I remember reading circa '94-'95 described it as. Also because of all the US-based activity that DNA analysis has determined as due to coyotes! Only once the ETH-faithful latch onto the story do the 'Grey' features become emphasised. (although in more recent accounts, the reptilian/Grey description is more common – one of the most interesting things about the whole Chupacabras phenomenon is how the mythology has evolved as different cultures have become involved.) |

A, D or D with E's head. I've always liked the idea of it being a giant sloth survival mutation. |
Boone Doggle | 05 Oct 2009 5:13 a.m. PST |
D. It's the weirdest except for the Kangaroo which looks a bit silly to me. I agree the head could do with replacement
B or E head would be fine. I like the alien baboon concept but Volstaggs pic looks too much like an ordinary baboon to me. 2nd choice would be A. |

Chupacabra attack on a small town would imply they travel in a pack or herd, your choice of "group" terminology and have a need-desire-want to attack said town. The ability to climb fast, smallish target, fast reflexes gives the Chup's many advantages for the encounter, nearly ignore terrain for movement, night vision-ish, dodge attacks etc. Hmmm if they were rabid they would have plenty of aggresiveness to override their furtive nature. I think I have a game plan forming ! |

Doug, Are you serious? You've never heard of Chupacabras? Let me see if I can catch and mail you a couple. According to many of the immigrant population around here, this place is crawling with Chupacabras. Dan |

B because it actually is supposed to look like a canine

Cacique Caribe | 20 Jan 2010 9:01 p.m. PST |
Come on! That is just the new version of the critter, started in Chile and now in the TX/MX border, because they find hairless dogs with mange somewhat alien. Think about it. What real self-respecting would model their pets after ours? Dan |
GiantMonster | 21 Jan 2010 9:17 a.m. PST |
I'd pick B. It seems more unique looking compared to the others which all sort of look goblinish. -Ken Radioactive Press |

National Geographic's "Paranatural: Chupacabras" (which originally aired January 23, 2010): YouTube link Despite all the misidentified mangy dogs, it seems like quite a few people are still looking for the original reptilian creature. Dan TMP link TMP link |

D looks pretty good though. But I agree with you. It can't just look like a dog with mange, as so many are claimng these days. If they can't tell the difference, they have a serious problem. Dan |

I am looking for miniatures to represent these. I have just ordered the GW Skinks, 24 per box. Removing the crests, weapons and shields should make them look good enough. |

OEO, Let us know how that turns out. I'm assuming that you are using them with 28mm humans? Dan |
One Eye Open | 30 Apr 2010 3:54 p.m. PST |
Yes, you're correct. Not so much hairy as snakey. Most of my research is from your posts. what are you using? |
Cacique Caribe | 30 Apr 2010 4:01 p.m. PST |
Well, I am definitely not giving up the search: TMP link I almost feel like a cryptozoologist myself. But, in my case, I am searching for the right miniature of a Chupacabra and not the real thing itself. :) Anyway, if I can't get someone to produce them, I may have to sculpt one. However, that will have to wait a bit. I'm still recovering from three surgeries to my right arm. Dan |
One Eye Open | 30 Apr 2010 4:09 p.m. PST |
Ahh, maybe you have set your sights to high. If you spend to much time looking for the right miniature, the rest will have your chickens. I think that playing is better than looking. I will have 24 critters that are almost there, maybe not perfect. I play THW rules, What do you use? |

C for me. It looks kind of like a goblin or gremlin, and I like that. I'd find it easier to believe that it was cunning and resourceful, and thus a threat The others either look silly (A and E) or too beastial (B and D). Bestial chupacabras don't seem very threatening to me. I mean sure, it can kill a goat..but so can I! C looks like it might set a trap for you, catch you off guard. |

A fellow TMPer just shared with me this article here: link I thinks it's awesome. What gets me though is how few seem to know about the mexican Xoloitzcuintle (Xolo dogs). link For some reason a lot of wildlife has been migrating north to the border states. Among them is the Jaguar, which was erradicated from the US, but are now moving in from Mexico. I find it perplexing how people in the south started using the name chupacabra for the Xolos they have shot and seen. The original chupacabra descriptions (in Puerto Rico) are nothing like what people are describing in border states. Those reports, however fantastic, describe something a lot like the cross between a kangaroo and a baboon. Cool article though. Dan |
