Let's see pics or your stuff.

I am building Martian rock formations, craters and hills suitable for 6mm Monster Island on Mars, 15mm and 28mm sci fi.

What of plant life? My set up looks cool (love that red clay color, but no plants. (obviously, I'll have to use different plant pieces for 6mm and 15/28mm)

Smokey,

Would any of these help?

PS. Look at what Irish Serb did here:

LOL! I knew you would come through for me, CC! Thanks, Buddy!

And, Irish Serb just made me jealous. Bastard!

:)

I know. I'm green with envy too!

I've been putting off making my board until I figure out how to duplicate what he did with the materials I already have.

I'll give it a shot though, after I get home on the 15th.

My stuff runs more to the urban Mars. Still working on some landscape.

I still need some hill type terrain (I wonder if Orish Serb would sell his?). I did have Crescent Root paint a bunch of N. African buildings for me in terracotta to serve as a Martian city and they look awesome.

I'll see if I can get some pics this week.

I've seen your stuff, Scrapwelder. Delightfully "
period" style for your Colonial SF

Great stuff!

My stuff is more generic. The "Moutains" for 6mm are small rock formations for 28mm, and can be used in a colonial desert setting as well.

I've always wondered, is Martian terrain predominately lime green, orange, or purple?

I've see all of the above. Someone is obviously wrong!

We should have a poll on this!~

Seriously,

The Zuzzy guys have some terrain that you should look at. Has possibilities.

mjc,

I particularly like the Sulphur Fields (if painted right), though Mars does seem to have lots of dunes:

I guess that, for 6mm, those little rises could seem like unsurmountable mountains! :)

I built my Martian terrain based on the fluff text of The Mutant Chronicles, where Mars has been terraformed and the particular area is I did is known as The McCragge Line. The McCragge Line is a warzone lined with trenches and combatants between Capital, Imperial, Bauhaus and The Dark Legion.

I made a modular trench system using 1'x1' tiles made from MDF board and cut styrofoam. They were coated with latex paint and sawdust. I painted them using various brands of red automotive primer spray paint and then adding some other reddish brown and tan colors.

Later I built a fortress to include with it and have a few "No Man's Land" modules in the works to put between my trenches.

I had the article on how I made it written up some time ago, it was lost when our site was hacked. I'll have post it up again.

However you can get a glimps of it when we ran a big Starship Troopers game last summer on it.

I guess I could use the same basic colors I used here, minus the river, of course:

link

Instead of topping it off with a dry-brush of antique white, I could leave it in this semi-finished state:

I start by spraying textured paint (I use Fleckstone or an equivalent).

I then spray thin layers of the following: Dark flat brown, flat terra-cotta and flat tan. I spray each layer in an "8" shape, making sure the top layers do not cover the lower ones completely.

Here's mine link

I havn't added any plants but I have a couple of sheets of rubberised horse hair that is red in colour and I keep thinking of just cutting random shaped chunks of that out.

Small dead trees. There are spots in Arizona where trees reach a certain size and die due to a lack of water. A dead tree or log can take along time to decompose in the desert.

Moss in shaded areas.

Cactus (I would go for some colorful ones they flower at certain times during the year)

Tumble weeds (I've seen them as big as small cars they could make for a fun game hazard.)

On some rock formations the signs of exposed mineral deposits.

Sand Drift / Dune (Two steps forward one step back)

Man, I wish I was good at making terrain :(

@Toaster- Did you make those buildings from Scratch?

quidveritas06 May 2009 2:44 p.m. PST

Rebel,

check out Pacific Sky Games War Core Buildings

My kid built one of these -- spiffed it up just a tad -- it looks a lot better than the ones in the photos. With just a little extra work, these can provide a very inexpensive, light weight building.

I used the plans from Matakishis Tea house for the buildings. they are made from cork tile.

Smokey,

You might remember this previous thread:

Ok. I went to Walmart and bought a pack of 4 tiles (around $10 USD here) and went to work.

I am going to post updates here and a link to pictures:

I don't think is anywhere as nice as what Irish Serb did but, then again, I didn't have all my usual tools and materials at hand.

Red. It's called the red planet for a reason.
