I used Spugs! this past year as Selenites.
A few of my players picked up on the movie refference immediately. Others did not. The ones who did not were generally my younger players. The movie is available on DVD but isnt shown much on TV.

No one complained "These are not real selenites!"
I think they fit the bill quite nicely.
YMMV,
R.

(they are also available in 15mm but 28mm is so much more impressive on the table imho)

I thought there had been a thread a while ago about the same thing, but I can't find it.

Maybe the Phraints from Arduin. Oh wow! I didn't realize they were still being produced.

There's also a figure for the sci-fi version of them (Black Phraints) & a figure that could do well as a Thark.

I wish these Ray Harryhausen Selenites weren't 4 inches tall:

Having a liking for and am slowly painting up the Scheltrum Selinites, thought I would post all their on line pictures Selanite Brain Bug VSFM07 picture , Selanite Worker VSFM05 picture the one in the previous post is the warrior VSFM06.

The brain and the warrior are larger than a normal 28mm man the worker smaller (slightly under a 25mm fig). The ‘arms' are separate and makes up as 4 limbed or 6 looking good as either. The worker's and brain's claws take tools and weapons (from my bits box) easily and look good. The warriors weapon arms don't but what is meant as second arms do.

The separate limbs are fiddly to fit (not easy with my arthritis) but worth the effort.

I typed this in as a break from sticking limbs on them so better get back to it.

OK, thinking about it, you could try the plastic D&D Thri-Kreen after all – snip a limb or two off and they're fairly close to some of the pictures…

I dunno about those "Genestealers". They don't have much of a exoskeleton.

CC,

Waaay back in the day Stan Johansen Miniatures made a line of figures called "Eeks," which were low tech bug-like aliens very reminiscent of the Selenites. Contact Stan and see if he has any Eeeks still floatin' around.

Otherwise, I say to Hell with it; it's not an ENTELODONT! evil grin

I thought the Selenites were those Hebrew warriors that saved Haunukah???

Cacique Caribe13 Dec 2007 3:53 p.m. PST

No. Those would be Judeans from the Seleucid period.

Dan,

We can always make a special item, package it in a plastic bag.

Large heads (Mantis) would be $0.75 USD USD
Small Heads (Myrm) would be $0.50 USD USD
Antennas would be $0.5 USD USD for a pair,if you need them

If you need more let me know, I can accommodate a special deal

Shipping would be $5.5,if shipped in the USA

Thanks

Those Dreenoi look nice!

Lowtardog26 Jan 2008 6:34 a.m. PST

Dreenoi, I think those are the closest you would get Dan

Those blue selenites look more like the aliens form War of the Worlds

Commodore Wells 129 Jan 2008 11:05 a.m. PST

I agree with Lowardog, the Dreenoi are the closest I've seen to the selenites from the movie.

I can't tell from the photos if the cylinders on their back are molded on or come separately. Either way they'll have to go! Converting the weapons to pole arms looks do-able.

I wonder how tall they are? The ones in the film were played by childen.

I've been looking for selenites myself and these Dreenoi are very tempting.

You need lots of them though to get the "crawling with them" effect.

Cacique Caribe29 Jan 2008 7:27 p.m. PST

Commodore,

I agree. I like the fact that the Selenites use polearms too:

For large Selenites (converted Kroot) I am about to order some of the Black Orc Games heads mentioned above. I'll take some pics once I get home and make the conversions.

This is what Patrick said above:

"Large heads (Mantis) would be $0.75 USD USD
Small Heads (Myrm) would be $0.50 USD USD
Antennas would be $0.5 USD USD for a pair,if you need them"

I'm glad I don't have to buy the whole figures and then behead them simply for converting my Kroot. It would be a crime to destroy such nice figures:

Mars is generally more a preference than the Moon, for me but were I inclined to populate the Lunar setting with bugs, I think Black Orc's Hive figures would be the choice.

Mars would work too!!!

Heck, I might even add a few centipedes as "hounds"!
