How about a lifetime moratorium of stifles? FULL STOP

Henrix21 Jul 2009 1:44 a.m. PST

Or perhaps change the name to something a little less offensive?
Stifling people seems like they are being, you know, stifled.

If you have a name that implies something the stifler does to himself rather than to others it might help. 'Ignore', or 'do not listen to' might help.
And don't show how many people ignore each member.

Frothers Did It Anyway21 Jul 2009 1:59 a.m. PST

Change the name of Stifle to "x number of people think you are an Bleeped text."

Unleavened truth!

Connard Sage21 Jul 2009 2:13 a.m. PST

I'm loving the irony.

turenne21 Jul 2009 3:27 a.m. PST

Why is there no "what's a stifle" option this time?

And what IS a stifle?

Connard Sage21 Jul 2009 4:36 a.m. PST

And what IS a stifle?

If we need to keep explaining it after all this time, you really haven't been paying attention

Or perhaps change the name to something a little less offensive?

If you think "stifle" is offensive, how did you ever make it through grammar school?
-Kle.

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER21 Jul 2009 5:32 a.m. PST

Why are there all these gray boxes, where did everybody go?
grin

John the OFM21 Jul 2009 6:05 a.m. PST

Attention! Attention! Please form two lnes.
"Stifles offend me, and are for bedwetting cowards!", please form on the right.
"Stifles are harmless, and how dare you tell me how to handle my account!", please form on the left.

Thank you.

Connard Sage21 Jul 2009 6:22 a.m. PST

Which line are you in John? I'll join the other one, out of contrariness.

John the OFM21 Jul 2009 6:25 a.m. PST

I am on the Left, which is not like me at all.

GoodBye21 Jul 2009 7:19 a.m. PST

Stifling a stifle; is that like placing a bag of holding into a bag of holding? Dire consequences could occur as the space time continuum is ripped apart and the very fabric of all existence is effectively negated for eternity!

Actually it doesn't sound so bad if it gets rid of the stifle debating.

Go ahead, I'm down with it.

Goldwyrm21 Jul 2009 7:20 a.m. PST

I think stifles should be replaced with lawn darts. Where is my choice?

Palafox21 Jul 2009 9:07 a.m. PST

I don't care about the name nor wheter stifles are discussed or not, but I'm for changing the name of the Dawghouse to The Cooler with Steve McQueen permanentely locked in it until Tom, Dick or Harry are opened and he gets a chance of escaping.

sneakgun21 Jul 2009 10:56 a.m. PST

Stifle yourself Edith! Archie Bunker is alive and well.

How about dueling, we are after all Gentlemen and Ladies?

The Tin Dictator21 Jul 2009 3:56 p.m. PST

Can we have an AUTO-STIFLE function?
I'd like to have anyone who says the word "stifle" automatically stifled.

Ack!
I think I just auto-stifled myself.
4 times.

….never mind

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER21 Jul 2009 5:20 p.m. PST

More gray boxes, odd, Hello helloooooo…..

zapper21 Jul 2009 6:13 p.m. PST

Can we extend the six months to permanent… PLEASE!

DocMagus22 Jul 2009 5:33 a.m. PST

I find this funny, I'm new to this and now I might try and see if I can become the stifle god of TMP, anyone know the highest number of stifles…..I need a goal to aspire to :)

How bad do I have to be to be stifled? because friends tell me I can be really annoying !

streetline22 Jul 2009 5:35 a.m. PST

143. You may find this takes some time.

Watch me closely, young padawan, and learn :)

streetline22 Jul 2009 6:11 a.m. PST

Connard has a high post to stifle ratio. I think that makes it a scale…. :-)

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER22 Jul 2009 5:21 p.m. PST

quick, the yeses are ahead, we need more no votes just to annoy connard.

aercdr22 Jul 2009 9:57 p.m. PST

Goldwyrm suggests that stifles be replaced by lawn darts. I suggest that they be replaced by lawn gnomes.

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER23 Jul 2009 2:52 p.m. PST

Can we stifle the lawn gnomes?

aecurtis Fezian24 Jul 2009 5:58 p.m. PST

"143. You may find this takes some time."

It actually didn't take that long. It did, howeve,r require an epic effort.

Neotacha25 Jul 2009 2:22 a.m. PST

How about no one knows who has been stifled? Or knows how many have stifled them? Or indeed, that stifles exist outside of whomever that particular entity has stifled.

If people don't know that fewer than 0.001% of TMP readers have stifled them, perhaps they wouldn't be so fussed.

Connard Sage25 Jul 2009 9:05 a.m. PST

But without stifle counts Neotacha people wouldn't be able to say things like "198 stifles? Blimey, you must be a right pratt, I think I should stifle you myself" would they? :)

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER26 Jul 2009 6:54 p.m. PST

Now Connard I would never stifle you just because you're a right pratt. A left pratt, now that's a whole 'nother case!
evil grin

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER26 Jul 2009 6:56 p.m. PST

Critterette says she'd never stifle you no matter what. Silly girl.

Connard Sage27 Jul 2009 2:56 a.m. PST

I'm honoured :)

Diogenes27 Jul 2009 3:19 a.m. PST

I find it great that the top ten of the most stifled contains three authors I always enjoy and the Editor is number 24!

I've never used the button but that's because I like the comedy value of the more outrageous posts – I'm one of those visitors who always has a look in the dawghouse.

Because of this I can understand why some people use it, not everyone has my taste in conversation.

BravoX28 Jul 2009 11:17 a.m. PST

Suprised that the vote was regarded as clear cut enough to justify the ban on mentioning the word that can no longer be mentioned.

I mean all it needed was for three people to change their minds and it would have gone the other way.

Hmm wonder if I will be dawghoused for mentioning the vote on the unmentionable thing?

Cooo…………….that was a close one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER28 Jul 2009 4:23 p.m. PST

So if I say the weather is stifling, stifl gets bleeped?
This is going to be a fun 6 months.

Militia Pete28 Jul 2009 8:11 p.m. PST

Critter 1 that was my question as well.
" I was telling the wife when I was in one of my five tanks I own because I am a billionare, you know the really cool King Tiger tank with "Kilroy was here" painted on the side? Yea that one. Well anyway I told the wife that I noticed that the air was a tad stifling…"

While we are at it, can we ban the use of "tad"?

BravoX28 Jul 2009 8:16 p.m. PST

Well we could have a poll and if two vote to ban it and one against then for sure it will be banned!

FarrowStudios29 Jul 2009 1:21 a.m. PST

Come on guys….we should all be able to get along, especially on the 'net, right? "Bleeped text" is a no go, guys. Lets all be gamer dorks together, ok?

FarrowStudios29 Jul 2009 1:21 a.m. PST

;)

Gattamalata29 Jul 2009 10:43 a.m. PST

So 44 abstaining members aren't counted for anything? I recall the votes of the indifferent being counted on Cacadore's poll about c-r-a-p…

So Bleeped text = bleep? So if I say the weather's stifling or the latest version of Warhammer 40k Bleeped texts creativity, it'll be bleeped like any cuss word?!? Some people…

For the record, I voted yes before voting no, as I thought it was supposed to be a six month moratorium on Bleeped texts, not discussion of the subject. Not that I normally care about it, but I don't think anyone should be prohibited from discussing anything, unless it's inappropriate for the fora.

Rich Knapton29 Jul 2009 12:24 p.m. PST

Does this mean that those who, in the past, have you-know-what-meed in the past will now be confronted with my comments or is it that just the word has been banned?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Rich

Tommiatkins29 Jul 2009 1:44 p.m. PST

For Bleeped texts Sake, its a rum do when we cant Stifling say the word Bleeped text without it being Bleeped textd.

Anyway, it may cause problems when we are writing about the actions of the 95th Bleeped texts under Black Bob Cruford

Super. The majority are told what they can or can't talk about by the minority.

Did someone mention the First Amendment? No?

Oh, never mind, I'm not a US citizen anyway. My supporting membership runs out shortly. I may consider renewing it in 6 months.

estrus30 Jul 2009 9:26 a.m. PST

Can someone cast up a "word that shall not be named" mini? Maybe a sculpting contest?
