How big are these? picture I really like the overall design, but would like to use them as Martian sand ships: TMP link Thanks. CC |

I bought some kind of similar Eldar thingy years ago hoping to use it for the Martians in VSF (it's still patiently sitting in its box, waiting for me to get to it). I'll go look on the GW website, see if they still do it.

That should be a 28mm figure on the skiff, for reference; I don't have one, but the other vehicles do I have are scaled for 28mm (speeders, bikes). Presumably the skiff is as well. |

Can't seem to find it. Must have gone out of production. Don't remember what it was called, and it's in a cupboard somewhere (no idea what I've done with it). Sorry. |

I made some from sheet styrene that worked well: link |

Wow. I am impressed. Styrene? Did you use any drawings to make it, or all "by-eye"? CC |

Holy cow, BigMB! Nice stuff. |

Here is the direct listing. I wish it had total dimensions though: link CC |

Actually I stumbled on these here at momir farooq's page: momirfarooq.com/index.htm he has brilliant stuff for star wars. They were too small though so I drew bigger versions up to allow the wotc figures to fit.

I think the WOTC skiff would be a similar size as the ones I made judging from what I have seen- but i never got a WOTC skiff myself :( |

Guess what? Look at this: picture link Styrene Master (BMB), any suggestions for us mortals on how to turn a drawing like that into a desert skiff suitable for 28mm-30mm figures? Since I would want to tackle making 3 or 4 of them, I presume that a drawing will ensure some consistency. CC |

best bet is to scale up momirs' template- the only 'hard part' of the whole build is that front section. If you want it to be all nice and curved you need to really get the 'V' shaped bit just right- I had to trim each of my skiffs as I found it easier to cut the front larger than needed THEN trim it. However if you wanted the front to be more like a 'd4' in that it has a pointed front with flat slopes, it makes it a simple project. Do the floor section first- each of the other sections joins at the floor and really space for minis is the point so get that part right first. To do the shield at the back you just need a rectangle that is as long as the distance around the back end. Likewise with the front shield- the key is the point where it meets the floor- that has to be the same length and the 'u' shape you cut into the top of that sheet will determine how severe the slope is. |

Leggo (one G or two?) makes something similiar w/sails in their Star Wars line. I saw it a couple of days ago at Toys R Us. Sorry I don't have a link for you, but it would take me forever to find one with this old and slow computer |
Doctor Bedlam | 30 Jan 2007 4:40 p.m. PST |
Galoob made one for their Star Wars Micro Machines line, for use with figures that were about 25mm. I have one, but they've been out of production for years. Try Ebay? |

Polynikes, you probably have a Dark Eldar Raider, or one of its relatives. Very Mars VSF looking (and also amusingly Star Wars appropriate) and currently OOP. |

The Desert Skiff is big enough to fit a few figs on. The guy stood on the back is about 32mm tall. I've been looking at getting some myself for the same reason, but I'm a little put off by the price. |
Delthos | 30 Jan 2007 5:34 p.m. PST |
I don't have the exact dimensions, but the base is 3" in diameter like all the D&D and StarWars huge figs. You should be able to extrapolate from there. I'd say just about 7" long. |

I got one last night!!! auction And I think there is another "Desert Skiff" auctioning at the moment, though it seems the guy wants an arm and a leg for shipping to shoppers from the UK (for US, $6 USD shipping): auction CC |

Nice find CC. I just saw another skiff auction but Nazrat from here is a bidder and I'm too nice to jump in and spoil it for him ;-) |

Goldwyrm-- go on ahead! I really don't expect to win it. I rarely do because I don't pay enough attention to the auctions. I just wanted it for some Parroom Station Mars games and if I don't get that one another will come around, I'm sure. |

The desert skiff was one of the funkiest vehicles of the starwars universe. Looks quite allright with the future warrior dude
In the US there was one for the action figures. If it were available in Europe in the late eighties I would've had sleepless nights. :) "I used to live here, you know." "You're gonna die here, you know." Sigh

Schweet! The early part of ROTJ is so much like a pulp era sci-fi adventure, it's my favourite bit. Jabba's fortress and the sailbarge are on my list of projects to tackle when my skills improve. |
