I know many have produced reptilian humanoids in the past but . . .

. . . what manufacturers CURRENTLY produce them in 28-30mm metal, either as primitives or space-faring?

This was the inspiration for the question:

"Primitives" would include WotC, Reaper, and GW, as well as various lizard- and snake-men from the likes of MegaMinis, Rackham, and RAFM.

Space-faring would include Scotia/Grendel (buried in the Kryomek stuff) and Olley, though both are pretty small/idiosyncratic sets at the moment.
There is also a single set of winged reptilians ("Droyne") with guns in the Traveller line from MegaMinis.
I suspect we'll see some from Mongoose in some capacity.

Patules25 Jul 2006 10:19 p.m. PST

It would be nice to see Serpent-men modeled after the ones Kull fought.

Rattlehead26 Jul 2006 12:38 a.m. PST

Well, I don't know if it's exactly what you're looking for, but there's the Hydrissians from Alpha Forge…

Cacique Caribe27 Sep 2006 3:57 p.m. PST

This guy looks perfect for the part. All I need to do is replace the scimitar with a more high-tech weapon:

link

If he is a one-of figure, then I guess I will use him as a single reptilian humanoid stranded on Earth.

These guys are kind of neat.

These Saurians, are they 28mm are true 25mm?

Colonel Hairy Haggis28 Sep 2006 3:07 p.m. PST

CC,

I've always like the RAFM lizard men.

link

I have a bunch for my Blood Bowl team. here Are some new ones that have empty hands for easy conversion. I have some of the one in the link for my VSF gaming.

As always,

Hairy

Never heard of Arrow minis nice, and CC have you seen their Aztec and Meso american buildings?

terrain sherlock28 Sep 2006 5:37 p.m. PST

Harlequin/Icon/Black Tree has Lizardmen that are totally compatible with the GW Lizards (including slotta-bases)
in a fairly wide range.. I have most of them..:-)

ex: Lizardmen Pyramid Guards (15) for $ 25.49

They are also fairly easy to convert to SF..

I wish someone would make an entire range of these:

Or . . .

Kroot heads on Tau bodies:

Do you think that the resulting models would look reptilian enough?

Are Ralnai still in production?

Who makes the reptilian figure here (fourth row, fourth column)?

Let's try another route, using Kroot heads:

Someone should make 28mm reptilians in futuristic gear, with something like any of these faces (Dinosaurids, Voth, Unas, Dracs, etc.):

I couldn't find pics.

Cacique Caribe22 Dec 2006 12:09 p.m. PST

I guess they are not available then (no prices either)?

But, I almost forgot, didn't someone just release a pack of reptilian sci-fi figures ("Vraks" or something like that)?

CC

Cacique Caribe22 Dec 2006 12:53 p.m. PST

Oh well. I just found it:

And they are called "Graks".

I miss the old Reptiliads line by RAFM, I believe.

Always wanted to buy some when I was a kid and had no money.

Now I could just about squeeze out a few bucks for some, and they are gone.

Oh well. Just one more injustice of life.

Goldwyrm26 Jan 2007 11:36 a.m. PST

The Droyne mentioned earlier are here:

link

I just got a pack of them a few days ago. They're 25mm and not big. But for my games there is no rule that says they have to be as tall as humans. I'll be thinking of them as winged space kobolds.

Hundvig Fezian26 Jan 2007 3:39 p.m. PST

Looks like Eureka will have Shen in their Empire of the Petal Throne range in the near future.

Cacique Caribe29 Jan 2007 2:03 p.m. PST

Hundvig,

Are there any photos or sketches of what the "Shen" will look like?

Thanks.

Cacique Caribe29 Jan 2007 2:11 p.m. PST

Sorry. I think I found one sketch:

Can you envision a few of these heads on a few Tau Fire Warrior bodies?

picture

CC

Goldwyrm29 Jan 2007 2:39 p.m. PST

Yes, I can envision that. Would be an improvement too.

Smiley18 Feb 2007 7:21 p.m. PST

JWOMACK94,
The Rafm stuff is still availible, just email Rafm and we can put them together for you.

J Womack 9418 Feb 2007 8:18 p.m. PST

Oh really? I'll definitely have to look into that. Thanks!

Deathwing18 Feb 2007 9:15 p.m. PST

Fourth column/fourth row…that's a current plastic Skink head and legs on a Tau body with bits of armor added.

28mmMan18 Feb 2007 10:17 p.m. PST

crocodile games have…well croc guys

Cacique Caribe19 Feb 2007 6:51 a.m. PST

Deathwing,

Agreed. Someone REALLY needs to do something along these lines:

picture

CC

Cacique Caribe19 Feb 2007 6:57 a.m. PST

"that's a current plastic Skink head and legs on a Tau body with bits of armor added."

That is precisely why I was trying to acquire one sprue of those new plastic Skinks:

TMP link

I might be getting a sprue of some of the older ones. I have never seen those older ones in person, but I hope that their faces are just as nice and that they have multiple poses that lend themselves to similarly nice conversions.

Or, I may have to sculpt a few heads like these:

Now, if I could only come up with a way to duplicate that "warty" look with GreenStuff!!!

Cacique Caribe27 Feb 2007 2:41 p.m. PST

It's actually so simple, I'm surprised I hadn't seen it done before.

I'm open to suggestions/criticism, before I take these conversions further:

Chthoniid23 Jul 2007 8:59 p.m. PST

The trick with reptile-based bipeds I think, is not to borrow too many elements from human anatomy.

The hips of modern reptiles for instance, favour a sprawling gait and a reptilian-biped isn't likely to have slim 'primate hips'. Also, there isn't a lot of muscle tissue around the abdomen- a lot of a crocodile's stomach spreads over the ground when it rests. It does have excellent armoured plates (osteoderms) on the other hand.

There are a number of possibilities on how a reptile would become more erect and bipedal. One might be that the back arches (and become more rigid) rather than being flexible and erect. Turtles- another reptile group- achieved some of this rigidity by fusing their ribs together to form the carapace.

A long neck might achieve height in a way our own primate evolution could not- consider some of the taller birds…

The hip-design nontheless, provides the biggest challenge for a reptile intending to standa erect. Some crocodilians can gallop 'erect' on their back legs for short distances however- looks a bit comical. This emphasises however, that compared to primates, reptiles begin with a proportionally longer trunk and proportionally shorter limbs.

Cacique Caribe23 Jul 2007 9:02 p.m. PST

Oooo nice. Thanks!

CC
Going back to the drawing board.

Chthoniid24 Jul 2007 1:23 a.m. PST

Aah, always nice to get a bit zoological when I can. For my sins I've had to play with crocodilians in the past, and this year it's been back and forth to China playing with tigers.

Norscaman25 Jul 2007 2:41 p.m. PST

On the other hand, chimps have smaller limbs too. We developed long limbs for a reason. Though I agree, I would try to use longer necks. These might be cool necks, but expensive…

link

I think that this is too anthropomorphsized:
picture

We have forward facing kneews because we were tree climbers. It is actually the WORST knee.

To me, a sentient reptile, adapted to living in the plains, might have a flat face like the above and humans including forward position eyes, but would still have raptor legs. They are faster, wear better, and would be more conducive to hot climates.

On a relate but different note, I am converting some of Old Glory's Octopons to space Octopons. Nice!
