Sorry to limit the choices to just these. However, I would like to make a few "reptilian" scifi figures out of the bits I already have.

So, in your opinion, which would look more "reptilian"?

A) A Kroot head on a Tau Fire Warrior body?

B) Or a Kroot head on an Dark Eldar Warrior body?

I think the tau fire warrior body because of the ankles. They do have hooves but I still think the lack of feet, as such, would give it a more reptilian impression over all. They would be squat fat reptiles more than lithe ones though.

More like iguanas or bearded dragons than snakes.

Also before you go buying kroot heads let me know if you're going ahead with this project I have a whole mess of kroot heads lying around here somewhere, I'm sure.

Could the Tau hooves be made to look more like three-toed feet (like an evolved raptor of sorts)?

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

PS. I am shooting for a hybrid conversion that could pass for a Voth or something like it:

Also, should I even bother making them have tails (more like tail stumps)?

Check out that Eastern Empire site – the feet of the She'asi – the lionmen – might be what you're looking for. Yeah, he did sculpt them, but give it a shot.

Closer to OnT, I've never liked the DE, they were…too much. Take the bodies and shave off all of the spikes, you might get something interesting and almost inhumanly slender…but the Kroot heads are so big that I don't think they'd fit well at all on the DE bodies. (I could be wrong here, it might be worth building one as a 'disproof of concept'…).

You might have better luck 'teching up' some of the GW lizardy types. There's a lot you can do with pistols, rucksacks, grenades and ammo holders. If the hands are compatible at all, shave off the pistol grip of the rifle and go to town.

I wouldn't give them tail stumps. That sounds like a big pain in the butt to convert for the benefit you would get out of it.

Unless you have the perfect piece in mind.

Perhaps, the 'Fire Warrior body'… I think the feet, and hands will compliment the Kroot-head'… and the Tau uniform, and kit look better than the Dark Eldar uniform, and kit…IMO!

I wonder why there seems to be a shortage of reptilians in futuristic gear?

What about….

Kroot heads on Dark Eldar upper body, and legs from Tau.

The reasoning being….

Kroot as reptilian (see Preditor from the film Comando), upper body from Dark Eldar with all those spikes and armour (see Serpo from Farscape) and legs from Tau as the reptile knee is so cool.

I would further sculp claws on to the hooves and use Dark Eldar weapons for an allien look.

I would also paint them dark with green skin – but may be this is taking it a bit far and outside the question.

Good luck

Tony

Wow…I gotta get some more Kroot and Tau bits…I've cloned a 'Skinny' head (outta green epoxy) for Kroot bodies…(for primative skinnies)…and also used a cloned Griffin 'grey' head on same and for Tau body…need to run some more off over the holidays!…then I need to get a box of those GW skeletons (plastic) for my Zombie heroclix conversions…and then….

(oh, by the way…the FIRST 'FLEX-SCULPY tentacle bakes are going in the oven today…I thought I'd try making some larger 'Titanians'…and maybe Kang and Kodos-types…outta the flex stuff…when baked…it is like those 'bendy toys'…only I didn't put wire in them first…so they won't hold position. I may have to try some 'tentacles' for CC's 'WATCHER in the Lake'…with WIRE…for poseable action???? 8-)

I like the Kroot on the Tau head. There was a White Dwarf a coule of issue ago where someone had done Lizardmen heads on Tau bodies. They looked really good.

What about this for an idea – a great use of Kroot (in fact the bast use of Kroot).

Wouldn't it just be easier to put Lizardman heads on Kroot bodies? Or just simply work from Lizardmen first?

Cacique Caribe12 Jan 2007 10:12 a.m. PST

Sargonarhes,

Good point. However, I am trying to end up with a body with some sort of futuristic armor or uniform.
