I would think that any number of Reaper magician/babes would do the trick! (painted with a combo of leopard skin and the faded pagan glory of Opar
.) |

I'm afraid I have no idea how prominent her fangs are, if they are visible at all. From the photo it seems not visible, but it is hard to be sure. |
jpattern | 28 May 2006 9:17 a.m. PST |
I've used an X-acto to slice off the fangs of many a vampire mini. It's usually very easy. In one case the fangs were so minute that a slightly thicker than usual coat of paint covered them. I'd like to say I'm ridding the world of Undead, one vamp mini at a time, but in reality there are just some vamp minis that I want to use as normals. Heh! |

Would a more Egyptian or Nubian look work best (like Altfritz' first link suggests)? link link link If so, could some of these be La's other female attendants? link link link Do you envision an abandoned Atlantean outpost in Africa to look somewhat Egyptian (or proto-Egyptian), or is it just me? We are going to be running a Lost City of Opar scenario at Hurricon in Orlando this fall instead of our usual pulp game. We will be using Eureka's Amazons for the women and a combination of Murch's Neadrathals and Copplestone's cavemen for the men. |
Cacique Caribe | 10 Jun 2006 8:05 a.m. PST |
Chip, Curious. Will you be using primitive weapons for the prehistoric males, or will they be wielding "Atlantean" type arms? CC |
chipjaxgarrison | 10 Jun 2006 1:51 p.m. PST |
Good Call: I believe it would be more appropiate to use the Atlantean weapons. But where to find them. |

First mention of the Oparians: "Suddenly the door behind him closed, and at the same time hands clutched him from every direction out of the darkness. The ape-man fought with all the savage fury of self-preservation backed by the herculean strength that was his. But though he felt his blows land, and his teeth sink into soft flesh, there seemed always two new hands to take the place of those that he fought off. At last they dragged him down, and slowly, very slowly, they overcame him by the mere weight of their numbers. And then they bound him--his hands behind his back and his feet trussed up to meet them. He had heard no sound except the heavy breathing of his antagonists, and the noise of the battle. He knew not what manner of creatures had captured him, but that they were human seemed evident from the fact that they had bound him. Presently they lifted him from the floor, and half dragging, half pushing him, they brought him out of the black chamber through another doorway into an inner courtyard of the temple. Here he saw his captors. There must have been a hundred of them--short, stocky men, with great beards that covered their faces and fell upon their hairy breasts. The thick, matted hair upon their heads grew low over their receding brows, and hung about their shoulders and their backs. Their crooked legs were short and heavy, their arms long and muscular. About their loins they wore the skins of leopards and lions, and great necklaces of the claws of these same animals depended upon their breasts. Massive circlets of virgin gold adorned their arms and legs. For weapons they carried heavy, knotted bludgeons, and in the belts that confined their single garments each had a long, wicked-looking knife. But the feature of them that made the most startling impression upon their prisoner was their white skins--neither in color nor feature was there a trace of the negroid about them. Yet, with their receding foreheads, wicked little close-set eyes, and yellow fangs, they were far from prepossessing in appearance." link link link link link CC |

What if the more ape-like ones in the Pulp Figures Neanderthal packs were given some accessories to make them look like the above description of the Oparian males? "About their loins they wore the skins of leopards and lions, and great necklaces of the claws of these same animals depended upon their breasts. Massive circlets of virgin gold adorned their arms and legs. For weapons they carried heavy, knotted bludgeons, and in the belts that confined their single garments each had a long, wicked-looking knife." Did You ever read Hadon of Opar? I didn't care for it. |
Alxbates | 26 Nov 2008 11:57 p.m. PST |
I read it, I thought it was OK
it didn't feel much like "Opar", though, without any ape-men. Just lots of references to gods and religions (fictional ones) that are never referenced ever again
Just kind of a generic fantasy/swords and sandals-type adventure book. |

Seriously guys . . . how close did I get when I did my Flores Hobbits? Dan, your Flores Hobbits are fabulous – if they were legally cast-able, I'd have them cast up. And Gray Ghost, I've got a couple of sets of figures that I think you'll be interested in (pithecanthropus subhumans and also Leopard Cultists, based on the J Allen St John artwork). But the first set is probably a year away (or farther), and the second set is a looong ways down the road. -Forge of Ice |
