Guard cossacks may have just been big city dandies carrying a lance and dressed up as cossacks. I would just make them light lancers at best |

Not even the dandies, except perhaps the most senior of them of course, due to 'patronage'. Look at the history of them; their formation; their manpower, oh I see now its a wind-up… To save the authors hand… link
